Delpo may play in the US Open

No. People who have wrist injuries never regain their previous form. del Potro may not be able to mindlessly bash the ball as he used to. This was afterall his strategy -- hit as hard as possible. Wrist injuries are career threatening even if they heal within 6-8 months.

but he doesnt have a broken wrist does he. and i seriously doubt mindlessly bashing a ball will let you defeat the world number 1 and 2 and win a GS title.

Not saying he doesn't do more but ball bashing is his main weapon. People overrate del Potro a lot, I mean credit to him to win a slam title beating an injured Nadal and out of sorts Federer. Well done. The truth is he was there at the right place at the right time.

Fed played great tennis at AO this year and Nadal was insane at Wimbledon -- that's what it takes to beat Murray.

And lets not forget del Potro has hardly ever beaten Murray even before his injury. del potro was great and lucky at US open last year but the chances of him repeating that kind of two weeks looked bleak even before the injury. Now I don't think he can win a slam title again.

i think he would be smart enough to know that it is best to sit out if he cant hit a forehand... what do you think this is? this is a professional level tournament not a tennis comp for 5 year olds.

And spider, face it Murray sucks towards the F,SF stages of a GS, if he even gets there that is. I mean Murray has been spanked by Fed and Nadal over and over but Del Potro has been able to do the spanking to the two (as shown in US open).

I think we underestimate how much pressure these top players are under to return to the game soon as possible after injuries, and it's not just external pressures either. I'm sure JMDP is chomping at the bit to get back on court again and who could really blame him? He'd just won his first GS in spectacular fashion, being hailed as the new threat on the horizon and he had a great deal of momentum going forward. And then all of that was suddenly cut short. Must be devastating.

I just hope he doesn't let the pressures rush him back before he's fully healed, more than likely against medical advice. Injuries like the one he has can be career-ending if not managed carefully and properly. It might be feeling fine now but that doesn't mean it's fully healed. I hope indications that he is returning earlier are because he's made tremendous prgoress in his recovery and not because he's feeling relief and is rushing back immediately.

great news for tennis ... may send few shivers to Rafa and Roger..

Even if Rafa beats Delpo this year it would not count, since the wrist injury could lead to an Ab tear and he'd still be perpetually injured, LOL. :)

haha that is actually pretty funny, missed it while skimming earlier.

Very true and very sad. I'm not a bag fan of delpo, but then again I didn't watch many of his matches last year, where he seemed to be at his best so far. It's sad regardless though, when good athletes miss out on opportunities due to injury. Also sucks for the sport, because it's always more fun with more competition!

I hope Delpo can recover fully. But I think anyone that expects him to be back in form this soon is being too optimistic. He might never be the same, actually.

So I played there on the newly resurfaced courts for a few hours today and let me tell you all this:

THEY ARE FUCHEN SLOW AS FUCH.

This dude I had a singles match against was like wtf, did Uncle Toni come up here and pay people off to put clay chips in the asphalt?

They were quite grainy, chewed the Wilsons right up.

I loved it actually, but all I could think about is whats lies ahead in a month or so, who will this favor the most.

The blue paint was rubbing off all over my shoes. I tried cleaning it off to no avail. Friggen awesome.

Can't wait for the Open...

Oh no! You have sown the seeds! This is more proof for haters that the courts are now blue clay!

Why are Nadal and some Murray fans bitter about Del Potro returning? It's only going to be good for the sport and we need new faces around.

I don't think there is bitterness. Talk of revenge, yes. Then there is also the issue that he might be returning too soon.

You just rubbed a blue crayon against your sneakers. Now go rub your 2 IQ points together and see if you can start a fire, sport.

U got it jackass. Have u ever played at NTC ass face? Nope.

I know Steve Mcqueen's nephew and he would not approve of such a jerk off using his uncle's pic as an avatar.

U moronic little clown girl.

HAHAHAHAHA. You sound so dumb when you are mad. Little clown girl? LMFAO. Ass face? MWAHAHAHAHA.

I asked Steve McQueen himself using a Ouija, and he told me I could use the avatar. He also told me to tell his nephew he should watch the company he keeps. :)

BTW, when you say you know Steve M.'s nephew you are saying that you have a cousin that has a buddy that once saw Steve M.'s nephew in Starbucks, right? LOL.

Totally agreed..Delpo's clean hitting is a break from the current state of the game..

Interesting to watch some of that match again and the final as well. I think people simplify too much when they give so much credit to the Dpotro forehand. If you just watch his feet on those highlights, you can see that he moves incredibly well and builds his points intelligently. For the most part, he was setting up those forehand winners by pushing Nadal way back before putting it away unlike Soderling who basically just goes for broke on every ball he can get a racket around.

Nobody has benefited from Del Potro's injury as much as Nadal. Del Potro had won their last 3 matches with each win being more convincing than the last. He had taken their last 6 sets and the USO match was a complete destruction.

It will be interesting to see if he can come back from the injury. I am guessing he will probably never be at that level again but he is still a young guy so who knows.

You're right. For a big guy he moves extremely well. I know during the Blake match at the AO he hit 3 or 4 running passing shots late in the 5th set to break Blake, that were Nadal-like.

Murray fans shouldn't worry. Good matchup for Murray. Nadal fans are going to be very bitter if Del Potro starts knocking Nadal off again. Del Potro just needs to be slightly in form to blow Nadal off the court.

Where have I heard this before? Oh, yeah, Soderling. :)

No doubt DelPo is a threat, but to say he is Rafa's nemesis based on the fact he has won the last 3 matches at a time when Nadal wasn't in his best shape, and DelPo was playing really well is a little of a stretch.

I guess Berdych is Fed's nemesis now too, huh?

OMG guiyZ I totally JUST played on the USO surface and it was zero gravity lol

check out my boots

How much proof do I need to show that Del Potro owns Nadal?

An on fire Del Potro is more dangerous for Nadal. He hits bigger than Soderling and is way more stable mentally.

If DelPo owns Nadal and Nadal has a H2H advantage of 4-3 against DelPo, what do you call it when Nadal has a H2H advantage of 14-7 over Player X?

No offense, but I want to see DelPo beat Nadal another 4 times in a row. Then things will start being different.

What goes around comes around. Since you like to point out Nadal benefitting from Del Potro's injury, it was Del Potro who directly benefitted from Nadal's injury .Funny how individuals see things differently isn't it and each person is convinced that their version is the correct one.

lol Counting past matches where Del Potro wasn't developed yet. The serve being the obvious improvement compared to 2007. There was no doubt that Nadal owns Federer. I won't argue that.

So now we should take out of H2Hs all matches where a player was underdeveloped, injured, or unmotivated? All that I'm saying is that I want to see DelPo beat an in form, confident Nadal.

DelPo beat Nadal around the same time Soderling beat him in RG. It seems Nadal wasn't in really good shape back then. Let's see how future matches go.

This is BS. Nadal lost to Del Po in Miami when he was fully fit. Then he lost again in Canada and decisevely in the USO. I don't care what condition Nadal was in, he was not going to beat DelPo the way he was playing during the Open.

Oh wait...almost forgot. Nadal loses = injured or 'not fully fit'. Got it! ;)

People dont remember how scary good Del Potro was last year at the USO. He was hitting with such power, spin, and accuracy that Nadal was overwhelmed. Heck, he even blew Federer of the court towards the end of the final last year.

If Nadal was not fully fit, he would not have shown up to play, as he showed at Wimbledon last year. The fact is, he showed up to play at Canada and the USO,and even said he was "100%" before the DelPo match at the USO. After he got beat down came the injury talk.

Do you honestly believe Nadal was fully fit during all of his defeats to DelPo? I'm not saying he would have won against him at USO. I'm saying I want to see DelPo beat a confident in form Nadal before we can declare him his nemesis. Otherwise, he's going back into the broken toy box like Soderling, after Nadal proved in RG and WB this year that what happened in RG last year was anomalous.

Nadal is Fed's nemesis, but to say DelPo is Nadal's nemesis in the same way is just a wet dream from Federer fanboys who just have to find a way to believe that someone can bring down their idol's destroyer. LOL.

Actually TLW you are completely wrong on this. As draculie will tell you, it is Davydenko who is Nadal's nemesis =D

P.S. I'm just messing.

You cannot say Del Potro is 'like' Soderling, because the fact is Del Potro is a better player than Soderling. He was a top 10 player for over a year before his eventual USO run. I won't say that he's a 'nemesis' whatever the hell that means, but Del Potro is a credible threat to Nadal, it's not like his 3 wins were flukes. All you Nadal fans make it as if the only reason DelPo won those matches is that Nadal wasn't 'fully fit', when the fact is that Del Po for the most part would be favored over Nadal on HC even if Rafa was healthy. You are the ones discrediting Del Potro as if his wins don't count because Rafa was 'not fit'.

Del Potro made a good run but he won his only matches against Nadal when Rafa was unfit. We wil have to wait to see those both fit and fighting against each other.

The difference between Del Potro and Soderling is that Del Potro beat Nadal before the injury talk began at the French Open. Soderling hadn't beaten Nadal before that. So even if you could argue Soderling wins came from an injured Nadal, you can't say the same with Del Potro's win in Miami because that was long before the injury talk began and Nadal came off two major hard court tournament wins and dominated the clay season up until Madrid.

I've already said that DelPo is a very strong player and a threat to anyone, including Nadal. He is obviously a threat to Federer, otherwise he wouldn't have won USO last year.

My point is that Nadal wasn't in his best form last year (but you probably won't agree with this, and I honestly don't care,) and that you can't extract conclusions based on 3 matches, especially 3 matches that were all played last year when Rafa wasn't in good form. Is that taking merit away from DelPo's victories? No. It's being reasonably, and asking for more proof before you can declare DelPo a Rafa-killer.

If Federer used the same sort of mentality everytime he has to play Nadal, I guess he wouldn't even show up, with the 14-7 and all. :)

So winning against Nadal in 1 HC match makes anyone a nemesis to Rafa? Now I've heard it all.

You sound here exactly like the *******s you keep arguing against.

Please explain how Nadal was not in good form in Miami. Just a reminder, he won the Australian Open and Indian Wells, then went on to win Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Rome.

Absolutely not. If someone had pointed out to the *******s that Nadal was Fed's nemesis after the first time he beat him twice in a row, and they had used my same argument against them, then I would sound like them.
