I am no Fed fan but that was not Fed yesterday. He clearly was not performing for some reason, either his back or his shoulder. He wasn't serving aces like he can and some of his shots were way off. You shouldn't give up on him. Look at Tommy Haas. Federer has a right to be injured/ have bad day. He's not number two for nuthin!

I get your point but there is more to it than just yesterdays loss. Noone makes conclusions based on one match or one tournament. Roger has beat a top ten player only once in this year.

How on earth is there such a thing as a depressed Fed fan? The guy has won 17 slams and holds countless records that may never be broken. He's still playing, and I hope he wins Wimby and makes some noise in the second part of the season.
I see why your are surprised. Even myself I often don't care Fed's result now or even wait for some new champion to take over, but somehow this loss make me sad (that was not the case of his loss in Australia or US open). It becomes more and more probable that Fed will lose more often again second tier players (n°5-8), and he will become vulnerable to top 20 players too, even in slam. Even in clay, where he is more helpless against Nadal and Djokovic but I felt less vulnerable to other players.

I feel I will lose some interest in tennis after he is gone as I can't root in the same manner for Nadal or Djokovic. Del Potro, Wawrinka, I can root for them, but they can't go past the QF, when they are playing well.

Depressed? Hell no. What could I possibly ask more of Fed? He won tons of titles, he supplied hunderds of amazing tennis for me to watch, and his style of play made me get up and go play some tennis. Even if Fed enver wins another title and Nadal takes his GS record, there's still nobody like Fed, and there never will be, he's one of a kind.

No, I will truly be depressed when he retires from tennis. I think there will be a huge void in tennis, and my life, when he is done. I can not imagine tennis after Him. He has so many astonishing records that any future great will undoubtedly be compared to Him.

I really feel like I'm going to cry after this match. Sad day...and Roger's level just wasn't the same today as it was in the Hanescu Match.

Stakovskhy was on fire.
Federer didnt make the break when he should have.
Lots of horrible shot selection by fed when opponent was at the net.
Deserved to lose.

That said, it's quite depressing to see that fed is the shadow of what he used to be. And it's only getting worse...

The decline is now official.

I guess because with every defeat we fear that the end is near for him. If the defeats come earlier and earlier, one of them may actually send him into retirement. We don't want to see this man go!
He's not going anywhere.

Don't you all remember last year when he did his pre-WTF interview and talked about how much he "loved the life"?

And today in his interview he thanked the crowd for the ovation they gave him.

As long as Roger feels the love, he's not going anywhere.

Word of comfort--Roger Federer has not declined that much

I know you guys are all crying and all that. but I really do believe Roger has about 2 more years of top tennis left in him. and maybe even more than that. I saw today, Roger lost cause other guy just played out of his mind. and played unorthodox tennis. but overall, Roger played pretty well, still moving real well. and we all saw him play worse tennis than this in the past.

When Pete Sampras retired, we all saw how Awful and moving like a old man during the summer before the US open. It was sad but he pulled a miracle and won the US open. but Pete knew, he couldn't play like that anymore so he retired.

With Roger Federer, this is not the case, at least not yet. he is still moving really well and hitting great shots. His return game wasn't there today but that is not that unusual on Grass courts of Wimbledon. Power players can make a great player look ordinary on the return of serve.

So all in all, Roger Federer will be with us for few more year, I believe. that is good for ALL of us, Roger fan or not.:)

Okay this kind of sucks.. For some reason I really like big upsets (because you almost never get to see them at all). I was so freaking happy when Darcis beat Nadal. Now this happens.. pfft, doesn't make me even slightly happy. The last French Open and now this Wimbledon, both grand slams where he had chances of winning or making the final. He just wastes these opportunities by playing like crap. What the hell man. This guy has 17 grand slams and still he's a headcase that can't make use of his opportunities. He could have more than 20 grand slams if he didn't suck so much at important matches.

Are you kidding me? Fed has 17 slams and yet you think he's a headcase and sucks in important matches? And 17 slams isn't enough for you,you want more than 20? Come on, now.

17 is enough, but 20 was within grasp. 2009 USO was lost by 2 points where Fed played too casually since he was GOAT'ing.

It's not that I'm that greedy for a bigger number.. It just hurts to see him lose matches that he has no business of losing. For example those US Open losses to Djokovic. Damn, I was depressed for weeks after that one in 2011, seriously. And how lately he's getting pushed around by players like Tsonga and Berdych in grand slams. How? Who are Tsonga and Berdych to consistently beat a 17x grand slam winner? He used to own those 2 guys in his prime. So stupid...

Of all his GS losses, those to Tsonga and Berdych bother me the most.

Those two should not be players being able to consistently beat him on the big scene.

I see those losses as sloppy and unpredictable.

I wouldn't go that far. If Roger wins 1 more major before he retires, I would be really happy with that. I think Federer would feel the same.

I also know how you feel. You must rejoice though that the tennis world is finding new players. I hope Fed's opponent isn't a one day wonder and that we will see more of him. However if he is a one day wonder then tennis doesn't look like it has much of a future.

I must be the only Fed fan who doesn't care. Roger has achieved enough. These days he'll win some and he'll lose a lot more.

I found myself cheering for Stakovskiy at times throughout the match. I wanted Roger to win overall, but I'm happy for Stakovskiy. Ukraine is a poor country and with his GF/wife there cheering him on I was happy for him. I also like that Stakovskiy represents Ukraine unlike traitors like Davydenko.

Fed makes 50 mil a year. It's time to let some some others have a piece of the pie.

This is very tough to take. I was like sleepless till 5Am. Close to four hours I was waiting to catch sleep. My God, these kind of losses just kill us. I didn't care when he lost in RG and AO but this pierces your heart.

He'll bounce back, no worries
That hope is long gone .. he will bounce either in 1st or 2nd round at uso.. a shed of doubt remained before wimbledon but now thats gone, if this is what takes ...losing to so many players whom he casually wins against for that 1 more slam which is not sure at this point, i want him to retire so that i can stop watching tennis for once and all instead of all this humiliation

Even if he is not winning everything, I still enjoy him very much. Much rather have him keep playing on tour than not have the option of "hey that Federer match is on right now." Same thing for my soccer, no UCL title in quite a while for Milan and team is in rebuilding phase but fan for life. It's the experience that counts.

To all my fellow RFederer fans, have some faith in our hero. Even though he may never be become the player he once was, we should all be grateful that he is still playing, allowing us to see his beautiful strokes.

I guess, its not your fault though. It's RFederer who spoilt us to the extent that every loss now depresses us.

If Fed could beat top players and put in a year like '12 or Rafa's '13, where there were bad losses but some titles as well, it wouldn't be so bad. A top tier player has to be a contender at slams.
But this year the questions and criticism are justified.

You failed to read between the lines :D
That's exactly what I meant. He dominated the tour at a very high level consistently, now that the level has dropped, people got mad (especially his fans).

More ****ed off than sad. Federer had SO many chances. I don't think it was as much age as it was lack of mental toughness at the right moments.

Wasn't Federer's day today. Some other day in similar circumstances he would have won this match.

This is the first loss that hasn't really stung. I've come to terms with the fact that Roger Federer is no longer the Roger Federer that we know. Age has taken its course and there are now only brief moments of greatness. Goodbye Roger.
