Depressed Serena fans check in here

I agree with @Mainad re the CYGS. She had that CYGS in the bag. It was hers to lose and she lost it. What a golden opportunity! **** the pressure getting to her! She was two matches away! And who stood in her way? Vinci and Pennetta! Muthaf****** Roberta Vinci and Flavia Pennetta! And she couldn't muster up the will to finish the job!(?) That really pisses me off!

Pretty much agreed. I actually didn't think she would win, but I was totally wrong about the manner it happened: I assumed the long layoff and her propensity to be vulnerable in the first week would be the culprit. She used to pretty much be money late, but now, exactly the opposite-and it's not likely to get better. If the over/under on Slams the rest of the year is 1.5, I'm going under.

There is nothing extra special about Serena longevity though.Age 34 she didnt even played the same number matches Graf played through 30 years.Serena is no Navratillova or Everett as far as longevity concern. As ı mentoined above she didnt even play as many matches as Graf did,who didnt even play until her mid 30s.
Dude no one in this era or any other in the future is going to play over 1660 like evert and navratilova did. In this physically more demanding era players are risking injuries and burnouts the more you play. Players like henin and clijsters were physically superior than both evert and navratilova and they still didn't even play half as many matches. Thats why it isn't good to compare their era with the era now.

She did really well to reach the final hot on the heels of such a lengthy break away from the sport/tournaments. As others have said, she can't win them all, and she always rebounds so well after setbacks, major or minor.

I think she will win # 22 at Wimbledon, tying Graf on 7 Wimbledon titles in the process.

I have eyes. I've seen her in person and there' s no way she's the weight she lists on her WTA profile and yes she's too heavy for a tennis player or for anybody.

I posted the pictures of 2 female boxers who were between 155 and 160 and one was shorter than Serena and one was taller than Serena.

Serena's size was right between the size of these 2 boxers, so no she isn't lying about her weight.

Some of you are truly pathetic and absurd in your comments.

I'm probably not as depressed as some of you in here, but Serena had a great tournament. She's starting to feel the pressure of winning slams with the finish line of most career slams in sight, as well as her career winding down. She showed she's human in losing under pressure. Happens to everyone at some point. Serena seemed okay and gracious in defeat. Seemed genuinely happy for Kerber. So cheer up... at least you're not a Sugarpova fan. :D

This is the first reasonable post I've ever seen from you. Congrats!

And yes, Serena is amazing, but like she said, she's not a tennis robot.

Everyone expects her to win all of the time (whether they admit it or not, whether they are fans are not)...the amazing part is she usually does.

She played well below how she played the other rounds in this tournament and yet the match was still super close. That says something about what level she is still playing at and how much better she is than everyone else still.

Still the fools will declare that it's all over for Serena (as they always do, as they have been doing since the mid-2000's) and they'll be wrong yet again.

These are 2 welterweight boxers so they are in between 155 and 160 pounds to give people who have no idea about what that weight looks like on different female athletes.

Serena's height is in between Julie's (the shorter one) and Christina's (the taller one)...and so is her body size. So yeah, her listed weight is accurate...

You'll have to find another reason to hate on her.

LOL.

LOL. Your comment made me laugh out loud. So true though. I mean how could she just fall apart like that in that Vinci match? She had the easiest SF and F in all her Slam runs that year and couldn't finish it. It looks like the pressure carried over into the AO F this year. Very disappointing.

Pressure is a real thing. My guess is it would affect anyone going for all time records. Not sure why people act like pressure isnt a big deal.

Yea it's true. It's just that we are not used to it affecting Serena. She has been like the iron lady so much in her career so it's shocking when it happens now.

Not really. Where do you get that? She has lost more slams than won over the last 3 years.

The last 3 years? She has been winning Slams for 16 years. She still won 6 Slams in the last 3 years which is nothing to sneeze at. Serena has been known to be one of mentally toughest players ever. Has been back from the brink of defeat many times to win Slams. However, the pressure started getting to her in 2014 when she tried to tie Martina/Chris and now while she is trying to tie Graf.

Yea and? She has lost more slams than she has won in the last three years. She loses. Why people fall over in shock when she does is a mystery to me.

Does it really matter what her weight is?
It will only escalate in to another petty battle.
She's big, but not especially fat.
Is it really that important?
As I've said previously, I've seen her live and she's just solid. Really solid.

Because she wins at least as many as she loses. That's why. A 50% win rate in Slams over last few years is astonishing. 2009- [lost 2 won 2], 2010- [lost 1 won 2], 2011 [coming back from injury], 2012 [lost 2 won 2], 2013 [lost 2 won 2], 2014 [lost 3 won 1], 2015 [lost 1 won 3]...Do you see the pattern here?

Yea the pattern is she loses as much as she wins in slams. And the pattern over her career is she loses more slams than she wins. This is why i cant stand posters and the media saying oh shes unstoppable or give her the slam crap. Its hard to win these freaking things. There is someone else on the other side of the net. And she is getting older and feeling massive pressure. If she breaks grafs record and courts it will be insane.

The thing i find strange about Serena these days is she starts out matches with a bang. Usually she wins the first set. Then she loses intensity and gets into a hole and starts fighting late in the second set. And then in the third set, she goes into supersafe mode which she can't afford to go to because she's not that good of a mover.
The final was even stranger because she started out too intensely, hitting sitters and putaways long. The more superior the pusher, the more aggressively she attacks, but this time she couldn't sustain the quality. And then in the third set, she goes into supersafe mode which she can't afford to go to because she's not that good of a mover.

Also think her coaching team could have prepared her much better. They clearly didn't hone her short-court game which is so important against pushers. She was running right into the ball rather than being sideways like she used to do.
