Depressed Zverev fans check-in here

Seriously, how can he fix his serves? Too many double faults. I think he should hire Goran as a serving coach.

He moves so slow around the court, often catches the ball late. What can he do to improve his movement and fast reaction?

Forehand. He often hits the net with it. What can he do to improve it?

Overall he looks very sad on court. Do you think he needs a break from tennis and come back later fresh and rejuvenated?

He needs someone to help him find the aggressive mentality. The serve-forehand 1-2 punch is so important, but Zverev just rolls in his serves and take shelter deep behind the baseline. He hates taking the ball early, especially on his forehand. His contact point varies on the shot so much due to reactive footwork, instead of proactive footwork. I would suggest Lendl, but that didn't work out at all.

Yes I noticed a change in his game last year to become more aggressive overall, instead of acting like a back board most of the time.
His game improved because of that. But it seems his game has regressed now?

It’s like every match he starts w the DF thing he cannot fix it during the match.
First I think after 1 set he will figure it out, but he never does. It’s like he has to start great or the match is over. Frustrating indeed!

Watching his level in like Washington 2018 vs now is insane how big the difference was. I remember watching that tournament and thinking the Big 3 are running out of time and he's been wildly inconsistent and generally worse ever since but I'm not complaining.

I thought Sascha had gotten over the hump and was going to come into his own; NOT! He drops a straight setter to some Qualifier IDK; Tommy Paul! WHO? Now Isner will have an easier match after eliminating Zverev bro, Mischa yesterday! :sneaky:

He was a very good mechanical player, but other players have figure out his hitting patterns. And once that serve is gone, no more free points.

he's spent the past year or two trying to learn to play more aggressive then come into the net to finish off the point, but he's left it a bit late. He should have been training this way years ago. You can see it coughing and spluttering into life from time to time, but then all the other stuff in the background just seems to make him very unbalanced in his self-belief, clarity etc.

I felt sure he was going to be the new "chosen one" that wiped the court with people, but it's just looking like it is never going to happen :(

the fact that someone of his height is having issues with his serve just shows that there is some serious confusion in his head right now IMO.

Really?

Zverev is playing his first tournament back after reaching the Australian Open semifinals, his deepest run in a Grand Slam, and where he played awesome in all his matches.

So what... he lost in the 2nd round of a tournament in Mexico after a little time off to a hot player that made his way through qualifying and was better suited for the conditions. Tommy Paul is not a bad loss and Zverev will be fine. He's the most accomplished player under 25 so far.

It's kind of hilarious that he's 6'5 and double faults like a 4.0 player

His forehand is terrible, and his attitude is that of someone that just feels like he should win without putting in work, he just has the aura of a spoiled brat.

I actually enjoy watching his struggles

He's 6'6. Any decent human being should enjoy these Z destructions. Nothing wrong with that.

yes zverev's pathetic consecutive double faults and lack of killer instinct is absolutely of no concern.

I think his height is one of the reasons he struggles with DFs.
If course, it should be an advantage, but imo, if you struggle generating spin on second serves, the height makes it easier to "push" the ball. I also don't think his torso/body movement looks right when he bends his knees on the serves. Looks too upright; there's not enough shoulder rotation into the strike zone, going down-up.

He looks afraid on the court, Like knees week arms heavy afraid. Never comes forward. The moment he gets moved from side to side, he makes errors.

What i also noticed, is that in baseline rallies, instead of moving straight to the side, or to the side and forward like every other top player does, he moves to the side and to the back - what the hell is that? Why would you retreat like that? Watch his vs Paul highlights

Exactly, the surprise element is gone when facing Zverev nowadays.
If a player do not evolve, his destination is the ostracism.

Seems like a mentality issue. When his serve isn't firing, he's in trouble.

That really is the case with most players; some more than others! Big servers expect unreturnables, but if that doesn't happen they have to work unusually harder to take their serves games and that will ruin it for them! There's really not a lot to do unless you have great groundies like "The Big 3!" They seem to be able to outlast young and old players who inevitably crack under pressure against them! :sneaky:

He was willing to donate his entire winner’s check if he had won AO’20 but is unwilling to pay the ransom @Red Rick demands to remove the curse he put on teen Zedraffe when there really was hope.
