Determining a St. Vincent PS 85

I believe I have a St. Vincent, however I would like to know some stuff. I measured the thickness and it's 18.02mm thick. Code is GOQ (w/ a very faded Q) Nothing on the inside of the throat. Midsize on both sides. Bumperless grommets. I was wondering if anybody has specs on the Chicago version (thickness 18mm too?). And also the grommets had no numbers on them whatsoever. Seeing as the cap code either ended in a Q and not an I, can I say that I have a St. Vincent and not a Chicago version?

This is a wonderful discussion about the many different versions of the PS85. Can you experts tell me what model this racquet is?

Not the St.vincent from Switzland, it is the version they made in the caribbeans, earlier version, that Pete didn't like

???????????????? Like Norcal once said, "I just got a ice cream headache".

There were no "St. Vincents from Switzland" There were St. Vincents from the St. Vincent Island. "ST. Vincent" PS 85's are the only ones Pete used.

Later the PS85 was made in Taiwan, and now China.

..yet another useless post from RBF, alas........

It is a Taiwan version, an early one at that. This is the first time I've seen a non-SV with the "22D 1615" grommet set, though.

SWitzeland or sweden, i don't remember but St vincent island is correct, that is what i meant by carribean island. I can try to find the article, i think pete's stringer wrote it........

Are you sure it is the earlier model? I have an early Taiwan model but it has "Midsize" on both sides of the throat. This is why I said a later Taiwan model for yours, because it only has midsize on one side. By the way, mine also has the 22d 1615 grommet set.

It is always interesting to see how many different variations of this racquet there are.

Recently bought a "St. Vincent" pro staff.

On the left throat portion, it has PRO STAFF on tops and MIDSIZE on the sides. Weight/balance sticker inside with grip size sticker torn off. it is BUMPERLESS also o.O

is this legit?

Yes, it is St Vincent.

I have a 6.0 85 racquet with "UFO" (or "UFQ") as the butt cap code which I bought in 1992 or 1993. The code is located at the top of the red "W" letter. Any hint of its origin?

^^^^ taiwan.

Three clues. The years that you listed when you bought it, the red W indicates a white butt cap, and the location of the code above the letter. Chicago and SVs had the code below.

I'm assuming the country of origin sticker (placed below the W) has been lost or else you wouldn't have asked.

Thanks VGP. Actually I've never seen any sticker alike since I bought the racquet, as far as I remember. The reason I asked was just that I saw the "Q" (or it's actually "O") as the last letter of the butt cap code so I just tried my luck to see whether it's a SV one..... Disappointing to know that it's from Taiwan...

Since the St.Vincent models were made in the same place why there are two different string tension recommendations? I have one of the higher tension racquets. Just wondering is all.

Did anyone come across a difference as to swingweight between bumpered and bumperless San Vincents? I feel that bumperless SVs definitely swings heavier, compared to bumpered ones.
Did anyone realize this?

I compared 2 frames, unstrung, same grip size, no lead tape, etc. One was a bumperless SV and the other was a bumpered SV.

According to a Babolat RDC machine, SW for my bumperless Chicago/SV is LOWER than a bumpered one.

If you feel the opposite, then that's what you feel.
