So I'd be interested in anybody's considered thoughts on the Tecnifibre 315 Dynacore.

I'm a long time Tec 320 Vo2 Max (Samurai)user, and wondered how hard a switch it would be as I've been craving a bit more manoeuvrability around the net for doubles. Its the only thing it doesn't do well (maybe along with poor slice capability)

I don't want to sacrifice the amazing spin-laden powerful uber-groundie heavy winners the old Samurai gives me though. Thoughts please?

Stiff, bulky, hits a lazer of a ball. It reminded me of a slightly faster / cleaner hitting Pure Strike Tour. Any flat ball is awesome with the speed pro.

Intrigued. The Pure strike tour is a monster. Effortless redirect of pace. Hmmmm
Absolutely. I found the PST to be a bit cumbersome, but the Speed Pro retains a lot of the qualities while being just a bit "faster." Definitely worth a look if you liked the PST. However, be warned that the Speed pro is ridiculously string and tension sensitive! I tried it with a plethora of combos and while I loved some full poly, hated other full poly, and everything in between it really changes depending on the string.

The only combo I never tried was gut/poly, although I feel it would be glorious in it.

To all the holics that are proud owners of the PS85, I think I have found the goldilocks string setup in this racquet. Babolat Tonic + Ball Feel/Head Lynx 16 at 23/20.5kg. Insane performance and feel, highly recommend it

I can only imagine how ridiculous Tonic is in the 85. I have an ancient stringbed in mine because I just never really hit with it enough.

But when I do...

Yeah I can't say enough about tonic +. It lasts forever, so I really don't have to think about stringing very often at all anymore. Plus it just feels like tennis to go out there and play with it. It's just the ultimate pleasure to play with this setup for me.

FedK, you should try the prior version of the speed Pro. That frame is the same specs as the prestige MP and honestly probably as good, just stiffer (the PJ is kind of blah, but whatever). They are on sale as well, so it appears to be a no brainer for a demo.

You could demo the prestige MP and prior speed pro for a rather goat experience. To me these frames really require no customization, and are ready to be hit with out of the box. The greatest combo of specs for me at least, as the balance is just perfection.

I like the graphene version much more than the xt version. For me, I got a lot more spin and ball bite with it. Great at the baseline and on serve. Think APD with 18x20... But less hollow feeling.

I only tried it briefly to test the waters with some 18x20 sticks, but really enjoyed playing with the Graphene Speed Pro and preferred last year's model to the new XTs. Like PP said...ready to go right out of the box. Fantastic control and just brilliant for flat shots and slice backhands. For me,
I just need more free power and more open patterns give me that.

i know that most of you holics change just to change,
but i was specifically wondering why PP chose to ditch it..
after all he chose to stay with the GPMP, didn't he?

Man, you must really never hit with it. It's such a string eater. I get 1-1.5 hours tops with syngut, and I'm not a stringbreaker at all.

So I never ditched it.

Roz...I really liked the GSP but 18x20s for me offer more cons than pros.
Maybe you will like it. It has a nice clean, crisp feel at contact and offers lots of accuracy. I just needed more help mostly on serve and for powerful shots.

I just prefer the prestige, but I could play with the Speed if that makes sense.

Either way I love gut poly in the 18x20 pattern. It's a beautiful thing. And I'm good to go with my frames right now. Just cruising through and playing tennis. The trajectory issue is gone now that I use gut mains, so really I'm just not thinking much about anything but hitting the ball.

I think you will really like the Speed pro. Especially the prior version. It is really nice.

From the little I've tested it it had plenty power, at least for me..

Hey guys, looking for some input.

I'm going to add a few frames soon. Leaning toward the Six.One 95S and or the Rebel 98 ESP, to satisfy my curiosity about spin effect frames. Both are relatively cheap, so I'm considering getting both.

Additionally, I'm considering a Pure Drive. I've never hit with a Babolat of any kind. I've debated between it and the APD, but it seems that the Pure Drive is the more universally liked and kinda the quintessential Babolat frame.

But, I'm open to any suggestions and my only real limitation is that I don't particularly want a frame that would be classified as "similar" to the TFights I currently play. I'm looking for something different to pull out of the bag that will be fun to hit with.

You guys have any input regarding the Pure Drive v AeroPro Drive...or any other frames you would recommend taking a look at? I love reading all your thoughts on various frames, so I appreciate anything you can offer me.

Thanks

Hey Spinny, I think you'd really like either one. They are so similar that it really doesn't matter which one that you try. If you havent hit with it yet, I'd throw in the new yonex 98 variant.. think it's the S model. I'd like to hear your input on these couple of frames for sure :)

No, sorry. Not interested in getting rid of them. I love 'em.

I'm not looking to switch. I just want some different frames to play with when I have the urge. That's why I want some that aren't comparable to the TFights.

I'll just chime in on the ezone xi98 and 6.1 95S, since I'm currently playing with the exi98 and have owned the 6.1 95S.

The xi98 is much more comfy than the 6.1, which can feel brassy at times. Serving feels much more natural than the 6.1, which felt great on groundstrokes, yet lack-luster on serve.

The 6.1 is much more adept at slices and touch shots, this is one category that the exi98 is less than stellar in, in fact it feels clumsy and numb on touch/slice.

It all depends on your style of play. If you like point & shoot type of play, without too much counterpunching or long rallies, go for the exi98. If you prefer the 'cat & mouse' to make your opponent submit, ala Tomic, the 6.1 95S is the superior option.

Oh BTW, the esp98 is miles apart from the 6.1 95S. I wouldn't even compare the two. The esp98 is soft and really needs a full poly set-up, while the 6.1 95S feels great with a hybrid setup, as long as the crosses are strung tighter than the mains. There is a nice spin window on 6.1, but nothing like that of the esp98, which built specifically for spin and not much else.

Klem - I'm pretty much set on getting one, if not both spin frames. If I go with the Xi 98, I would exclude the Pure Drive. How would you compare the Xi to the PD?

Jack - Do you mind if I ask why you would go with the APD over the PD? Just curious.

APD is just a bit more well-rounded. PD is just brute power. The APD adds some control with the power. It also feels softer and more solid to me.

+1 on this.

If you like full poly and higher trajectories, plus all the ease of kick serves, go with a spin frame. If you don't like the feel of full poly, especially when the tension drops and the bed becomes erratic and unresponsive, don't go with the spin frames. Unless you're cool with restringing every frame after the 10 hour mark.

PD vs ezone xi98?

Hard to compare the two, really depends on your experience and opponents. But the PD, for me, is superior to the xi98 in every category except two big ones, comfort and control.

The PD has better touch/slice than the xi98 ( believe it or not ), better on serve, forehand, backhand, etc. BUT while the xi98 performs well in these categories, it is solid, very comfortable frame with a denser middle-bed.

I've always said it, if the PD was 63-65 ra, there would be no contest for me. The stiffness is not worth the results. To get it comfortable, you have to string in the 40's and below and then it turns into a trampoline. The APD is much the same for me.

^ eh, not like we're trying to figure out annuities or real interest. ;) point made, those puppies traveled a while to get to you! But thanks for the clarification Spin, just kind of read through it.

On a diary note -
I've put down most of the frames lying around the past couple of days (ezone 98, POG100's, exoTs and PresMid), in favor of a Pure Control Tour. Very much stock with just a bit of lead at the tip, ~2grams. This frame has always reminded me of a love-child between a 6.1 95 and a prestige, it really does share many of the qualities of each, yet a tad more forgiving than both.

After playing an opponent last week who had a PD and some unknown poly at really, really low tensions and was pummeling the ball, I searched for Chris' (from T-dub) blog on super-low tensions and looked at the density of the PC Tour, 'maybe this would be a good candidate?'.

Strung it up with a pack of 4G I've had lying around for over a year, really don't like this string at all, not even as a cross, too stiff and unresponsive, but it is possibly one of many perfect candidates for super-low tensions.

Strung the PC tour with 16g-4G at 10lbs., yes, not kilos, 10 pounds. As I gathered from Chris' blog, 30lbs. is very good, 20lbs. is no mans land and 10lbs. features more comfort and power than 30lbs. with much less control than 30lbs., yet none of the buzzing and vagueness of 20lbs.

I really did enjoy the hit. You have to be very deliberate with how much spin you want to impart. The PC Tour, which normally feels like a 64/65ra, felt as comfy as it gets folks. There was amazing dwell time and I was surprised at how few 'sailors' I had.

I don't know if I could have played with a setup like this 5 years ago, but if you've got your grips and court positioning down, this fun experiment is worth a shot.

Overheads, serves and volleys were apocalyptic, absolute mayhem. One opponent had to take a seat because he said he 'felt something in his wrist' trying to return a serve of mine, which I felt kind of bad about actually.

Groundstrokes had better depth and effortless power, yet were touch and go, really didn't feel as if lost anything here, kind of a trade-off. Slices were an absolute nightmare to tame. Will play out the string bed and see if this helps the longevity of full poly beds as well.

Question - what would your preferred string setup be?

I think picking a preferred setup and then a frame can make life a lot easier.
Off the top of my head, if I bought these racquets, this is likely where I would begin...

1. Rebel 98 ESP - full poly at mid range of suggested tension
2. Six.One 95S - I would likely start with a full poly bed here to see how it plays and feels, then I would try a gut/poly hybrid to see if it would/could work for me with the open pattern
3. Pure Drive (or APD) - I'd probably start with full multi in the high 50s and go from there, if I like, I'd most likely string it with full gut at similar tension at some point, but might try a gut/poly hybrid as well

I'm not wedded to any particular string setup. I enjoy trying polys and, to date, have never been troubled by stiff frames, so I'm not terribly concerned with that. But, I do prefer the comfortable feel of gut and multis, and am more than content to stick with that if works for me in a racquet. If not, I don't have a problem playing with polyester. Basically, I'll play whatever works best for me.

There are other frames that interest me, but these are the top of the list for racquets that will offer something that is clearly different than the TFights. I'd enjoy trying the Prestige based on what many of you say about it, but in the end, I'd rather get more variety and I think the Prestige would offer a very similar experience as the 315 Ltd. I've got a great "player's" frame. Now I want a good lighter, powerful 'tweener and a spin effect frame.

Based on your feedback, I'd be inclined to risk the stiffness and go Pure Drive. I'll sell or trade if I don't like it. From what I've seen, Babolats are easy to flip.

So, what are you hitting with these days Mikey? You settled in with something? Any plans to demo and continue the quest for the Grail?
You know me. I'm never settled in

Since my club now carries HEAD frames, I've been demoing a ton lately. I'm still unsure of what type of frame I should be playing with, but so far I really enjoy the old speeds and instincts more than the new ones. So I'm leaning in that direction.

But there's also babolats pulling me the other way...and the new burn...

The quest continues, my friend haha.

I should mention that I've been working on my footwork and preparation with my instructor...getting these tree trunks to move is so difficult these days! Lol.
