I have no idea what the wrapper/placard combo weighs. What’s your gripsize again? Maybe Ill buy yours after you decide it’s not for you.

Mine is pretty much dead on spec. I think it may be 2 grams over. I would probably go with frame 1 but again, I don’t know how much weight those placards add.
The placard is about 10g so it's 301 with the plastic wrapper on the grip. Just shadow swinging them unstrung Frame 1 feels better to me so I'm leaning that way. I wasn't sure if this was like the BP where you may want a 'beefier' frame.

I'm usually an L4 as @mad dog1 stated but with this one I went with L3. Just because I know Babolat grips tend to feel a bit bigger than Wilson grips.

I have tried VS/Alu, HyperG and Firewire Boost. My favorite so far is Firewire Boost 17g @ 56 lbs. If you get gut/poly dialed in with your preferred tension I imagine you will love this racquet.
I loved the racquet already. But it was too much work with full poly. Firewire seems to be popular here so I might need to add it to the old string list. But my concern with the firewire would be it cutting through the gut too quickly. That's why I was looking at the PTS or something similar.

Ok yeah just go with the 301. It sounds like it should be good to go.

question:

PA19, purchased my first last week.

my first re-stringing is a day overdue.
got about 10-12 hours out of this:
52 mains
51 crosses
17g cyclone

wants:
1. going to use 18L to go a smidge more head light
2. I want to increase the tension 1 LB, to increase control a tiny bit.
3. but I don't want to go up in tension, comfort is a concern

so what would you do?
18L should string tighter, so keep the same tension?
or no?

Weighed the first new Touch Prestige Pro. 315g on the nose. I haven't taken the other out of the bubble wrap yet, but I am impressed given the Wilson quality I'm accustomed to.

I am going to put Oehm's leather on it and string it up tonight. I was going to go with syngut and order some Natural, but I have a tournament coming up in 4 weeks so I am stringing with NXT/Element since it's the string I've known best over the last 9 months.

DT will automatically go up by going from 17 Ga to 18 Ga if using same tension. If you want more control after the initial trial, try 53 mains and 51 or 50 crosses. Problem with the PA19 is strings do not last very long in them, so your 18 Ga experiment may be short lived. Another option is 16 Ga mains and 17 Ga crosses at your initial tension.

thx,
I have so much to learn!
FWIW I'm not a string breaker.
but tension loss must be > average, with this stick, I'm noticing.

why would you go with a thinner string rather than just adding weight to the handle? the SW shouldn't be an issue for you considering you also have a blade. i'd consider going 16g, drop a couple lbs in tension, and add a couple grams in the handle instead. in my experience, cyclone plays great in this frame while fresh, but the tension drops off pretty hard while still retaining playability. shouldn't be a problem if you can adjust.

What‘s the curse part mean?
maybe he won't be able to stop at just 2

Thank you for the reply. I have about 4 g in the handle. My static weight is at 330. Balance 32.9. I would like to get the static way at around 328, while going for 32.75 balance. My spec was off a bit, not as HL as it should have been.

Even after the first hour I could sense the difference.
I reached the 10 to 12 hour mark today, and I had to adjust. So your thoughts are well said. Still played my best tennis ever, today.

It seems that as soon as my second one arrives, the honeymoon is over and I am already on to something else.

also, if you find something you like, it stays remarkably the same over the years.
This is such a true statement. Even when I try to go to tweeners and other types I always end on straight beam, 95-98” and around 63-64 ra. It’s a mix between 16m and 18m sticks depending on the year, and I’m lighter than
In my K6.1 days by about 15 grams. All in all, very similar. I think what I liked about playing the Prestige pro is it reminded me of a better 6.1 in a lighter package

Morning, Gents. Your favorite PK Barista here, presenting a fresh brew: Espresso on the left, Doppio on the right. The bag came with the Espresso, and has a grab handle at the top and a full mesh back, so it could come in handy for tossing in sweaty gear and the like. The Doppio came with an old-school racquet sleeve circa 1988.

IHP (Incognito Holicing Potential) extremely high here. Should the underdog Espresso not work out as I somewhat suspect, I'd send it to @Pneumated1 but I believe he has manhands while I have the girly sort. Considering TWE gave me the demo discount for my recent banana sampling, and seem to have thrown in an extra set of both Lynx Tour and Element for free, each frame comes out to below 99 euro so not much pressure here.

May these beans hiss.

(meanwhile the Frankensteined UTs are on their way, and Doppio 1 and a Blade Pro will be plucked from the stringer later today. Papa's gonna have a brand new bag)

You are a one talented barista. Wide awake now and focused, thank you!

Twice this week I've had to pass on espresso deals because the grip was a size too small. What is the actual shape of this grip? Are the Volkl/Head comparisons true? If so, I'd need to reshape it with athletic tape anyway, hence a bit of a grip build, so a smaller size would work. When will you hit these? Something tells me the espresso and BA Pro could rival my UPs.

Hitting partner is 50/50 for tonight. If not then I’ll have to wait until early next week.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve hit with a Volkl but if memory serves it’s more similar to that than the Head TK82 because isn’t the Volkl a bit rounder still? I feel like the PK grip just runs a tad chunky, but I can change between it and a Wilson without issue except the same grip in PK feels a bit more full in the hand but not overly longer on the main bevels as a Head. So I size down to a 2, and my preferred replacement base grip + og setup then makes it feel about the same as a Wilson 3 with a stock grip. If that makes sense.

I have a friend who hit PKs only until he hung the racquets up due to back problems. The few times I hit his frames, I never got the sense they were "overly" rectangular, like Volkl or Head. You mention 'full,' and that was my impression, but his were L5s. I think my best bet is to continue the search for a slightly used L4 espresso and to not overthink the grip shape too much. I'd rather meet it on its own terms if possible. Pulling hard for your hitting partner tonight.

Yeah, my 7G I have in a Grip 3, and it's perfectly fine. It's weird, I've hit so many frames in my day (or even in a single day) and can interchange shapes and sizes without much issue. For instance it's not a big deal for me to hit a Wilson in a 1/2 or a 1/4, then going to a oldie Head will take two seconds to adjust to and I'm fine. Yet the only grip that noticeably causes some more irks or longer adjustment is the Babolat, and I can't quite explain this. I just have more dump shots due to grip alone. After awhile, obviously I get used to it and it's fine as I used to hit with Pure Storm Teams and Ltds.

PAs grip is odd. I go the ripstick and its like “ahhh. Perfection” but that said i serve, volley and hit groundies super clean with the PA. May be one of those things where what feels best in my hand is not necessarily whats best for my game.

or not. I have no actual idea.

no but as topsn said, its really the overgrip that makes it feel a little off. I used to swap them out for skin feels but so far i have stayed the course.Pure drive has the same base grip. Pure strike- substantially smaller and thinner.

That's interesting. Dunlop is my favorite, but transitions to Wilson, Yonex, Prince, and Babolat are seamless. Volkl and Head (esp. the latter) create problems, e.g., dumping my slice, serve issues, etc. That said, I think going with my usual grip size, even into the unknown, is the best bet. Grande PK for me, please ...

(Not for me, I sold mine..lol).
Just the grand side experiment of seeing how they might play now at 27.3. They swing through the air beautifully. And while we’ve been on the topic of grips, the customizer was also able to provide a Wilson Grip 2.5, right in between and perfection for me. This could still very well end in disaster. The PKs are still my focus. The Ultras my side hustle.

Surely you are worthy of the stencil. Nice to see a GOAT get some love. I took mine out last week for a comfy spin and thought to myself "You really could have stopped here." @JGads I'm excited to see how this one plays out. I've thought about extending a UT 1/4" just to see if it could get more pop on my serve. Instead I just bought prestige pros.
Ha, touché. I was THIS close to getting a PP for a longer term demo after the positive night I had with my friend’s XT PP. Clearly we’re after the same thing. An UT with just a bit more meanness to it. Since I love XLs already, and the UTs are just too good to let go of yet also weren’t competing seriously with the other frame, decided this was a way out.. or for them to “get back in” to the fight. As @Pneumated1 said, maybe this could lead to disaster and me finally forgetting about them forever. Which would also be just fine. The modding of each stick cost me less than a used PP off the classifieds, so screw it, let’s roll. Ultimately the the Ultra feel is better than the PP so maybe this modding could provide best of all worlds. Or not. We shall find out.

No Rippers here yet. And no problem. With the toys that arrived today I’m gonna be good and busy for awhile with these experiments.

Sadly doesn’t look like I’m gonna get a hit in tonight, so these sweet rides won’t get ridden until after the weekend. Pain.

@Power Player I think you made the right decision with the Ripstick - I hit with the Synergy and was rather underwhelmed tbh. I expected something as solid as a Blade 18x20 (almost identical specs) but it felt far less stable. Maybe the demo I got is under spec but the combination of low power and not being that solid isn't working for me. Maybe it's also the way it flexes. Launch angle is similar to a dense 16x19. I don't think the Synergy could replace the Blade v7 in your collection.

On the flipside I think I have a better idea of what I'm looking for; something tweenerish (forgiving, powerful), not too stiff and with a reasonably dense string pattern (PA was too open for me).

Absolute legend that is never not joy to hit a tennis ball with. As I told you recently it's also a fantastic stick to 'center' you either at the start of a session or if you feel like things are getting a little out of whack. Sometimes I'll go to it if frustrated and can't feel the ball or something, and it immediately gets me grounded/re-centered/back. Stick kind of gets out of the way. Or shows you the way home.

Now, how will these things play now with the added length, no idea. But... it had to be done.

good to know! May be the new PK 5s when they come out or maybe the ripstick for you then. The ripstick is everything you said except the dense pattern. It is denser than the PA and plays more like a traditional 16x19.

Interesting, 27.3 is not a length I’ve even heard of before lol. But hey @JGads paving his own way. Always good to experiment and see.
Landed on this as the sweet spot as I wanted more length for more pop and serve help but a full 27.5 would have put the SW very high. Still wanted to be able to keep it reasonable. Plus, not sure if it’ll still need lead for stability and such and at the moment there is some room. Both are at a matched 307g, 295 SW, 31.5 balance unstrung. At the moment, strung, it dry swings like heaven.

Hell even Djoker is swinging a niche length right now, I think I read his stick is 27.2 after being standard length for awhile.

Yeah, you should do a demo of the ripstick as PP said. For me, it’s plays tighter than the 16x18 would imply.... it’s a great frame for that controlled hitting vibe. I’m sure string set up affects this greatly, but you’re plugged in to the same types of strings I’ve used in it - tour sniper, FireWire boost, a trionic/cream set up. These things are so fickle and personal though, lol, it’s amazing any of us like the same frames.

Edit: forgot to add I slow walked getting a second one this time. But it arrives tomorrow. I’m pretty happy in Ripstick land.
