What did you do to the UP? I hit mine a few days ago and couldn’t stop thinking “man, what a great frame”. Strings were dead though, so went back the rip and they actually play similarly for me. I may string it this weekend and hit it a bit as I’m between some matches/leagues.

Nothing special, but I've settled on 4-5g in the hoop, so I spread that out from 12 down to 3:30/8:30, alternating 4-5" strips of 1/4 lead on each side of the string bed, but I think the real difference maker for feel/flex (for whatever reason) was moving my 3g from the top of the handle down to just above the butt cap (total of 5g there now too). It's more plush and energetic.

I tried to hit with mine last night but it didn't feel right at all. It may be time to restring. I think @Power Player was stringing his at a ridiculously low tension in the 30s I think. I may try 40-42# with HGS this time.

Nah I only had the UP for a bit and it was really nice, but not really what I'm looking for. I strung it at the usual 48 or so that I do with control frames.

Yup, I’m holding on to the UP plan to revisit it soon now that I have a bunch of other frames under my belt. Did you also try any of the Speed Pro line before settling on the Gravity Tour? I picked up a Speed pro recently and really like it. Finally, did you see the 25% off promo from Tier one? Good chance to get some more GW.

I traded a V7 Blade to ryushen21 for his 360 Speed Pro (prev. version), and I hit it for a total of five minutes. I actually liked it but knew it would not contend with my others, and I already had the GT and preferred its more plush, classic feel. That said, extra weight on the 360 or the extra swing weight of the 360+ would likely bring things into my wheelhouse. And thanks for the heads-up on the Tier one promo. They're always running something it seems, and I just ordered 4-5 packs of GW for my son and me. I'll look into it, though, because a reel would make more sense for me at this point.

I’ve raved about this frame too much in the past, but it’s one of my all time favorites. Hit with mine in stock form for a bit before I went Blading yesterday. I believe it’s a 67 RA, but IMO is more comfortable even than the Ez100. Has really good power- the same I am expecting from the PKQ+5proGads. Basically not as huge as a tweener, but bigger than a v7Blade. 16x20 pattern so you get insanely nasty slice but you can also play a topspin game with it and drive the ball flatter when needed. Came out with the same Vcore releases as the StanWand original 95D.

Main reason I suspect it did not catch on as much is because for some bizarre reason Yonex made it with ridiculously low SW (mine are 309-311). So in stock form, it just doesn‘t put much hurt on the ball. I have my old coach’s pro stock version which is the exact same frame but the SW feels slightly bigger- maybe 315-320. He played it at low 40s tension with lux, so that worked for him. He did mod the handle by using 2 OGs instead of a base grip since the gripsize is a bit bigger than it‘s size indicates.

My Gf uses it more now, she always asks to use it, so it’s in stock form which is a bit low for me. I used to lead it up at 12. I would suggest 5-6 grams at 12 or in the corners and it will play great. At one point I leaded the crap out of it and used it as my main for months. It hit such a heavy ball that the first time I hit the court with it, one guy I hit with all the time stopped playing for a second and was like “dude you are destroying the ball today, what is going??”. So that motivated me to continue with the frame at an insane 360ish SW. Over time I simply needed more racquet head speed to really keep my serve pace up for 2-3 hours, but the point is that you can make this frame into a monster if you are bored.

I mention it just because of your Ezone wishlist. It would be a fun racquet to tinker with since it comes close to what you are asking for. Imagine a Blade forged with an Ezone100 and that may give you a good idea of it.
Dammit. Now I must have one.

Sorry, I must have gotten it mixed up with someone else. Someone said the UP played stellar at lower tensions. I'd like to say it was @mad dog1 but am afraid of being wrong again.

On the plus side, finally got my 2nd vaccine shot this morning. (y)

Moderna? I have my first. Interested if you get any side effects from #2.

Bringing out the legendary 2015 Blade to slide in against the Gadspiracy today. They both have a really nice direct feel, the PK is crisper and the ball seems to sink in the strings a little more for a plusher response. Blade is a bit more firm and a little less crisp if I had to compare.

I think the 2015 Blade has one of the best ball feels of any recent frame release so this is a good benchmark for the PK.

On tennis news, got my box of trinity balls for my slinger and hope i get my strung doppio back tomorrow. The weather gods are not happy and raining out my outdoor tennis for weekend

Next day after 2nd Moderna shot one day of misery. Body aches and headache. Perfectly fine like it was a dream the following day. Recommend Tylenol and or Advil preemptively if no contraindications.

Pfizer for me. Everyone has different side effects. My father in law got Pfizer and got sick for a day after his 1st shot. My dad got Moderna which is supposed to be rough after the 2nd shot and he had no symptoms at all. It's hard to predict how you will react.

2nd pfizer shot put me outta work for 2 days. after my fever broke the symptoms stopped like nothing had ever happened

That was basically my COVID symptoms 13 months ago. I had a 103 fever for 2 days with chills and some stomach issues. Then it disappeared all at once when the fever finally broke. My wife caught it from me and had a low temperature for weeks along with a cough and shortness of breath for a month. It's hard to say what will happen to someone but taking Tylenol after your shot is a good idea I've heard from multiple sources.

Move the arm a lot and keep moving it. Helps get rid of the pain a little bit quicker.

I told a friend of mine yesterday that I heard it's better to get it in your dominant arm since you move it a lot but I got mine in my left arm. He was like - 'but you use both arms for your backhand so you should be ok'. I was like 'yeah, I have a OHBH'.

For me, pfizer. First shot I had a slight reaction. My tongue and lips went numb. I talked like I had been at the dentist for about an hour. Next day I was ill and then was good. Had second shot Wednesday, no reactions and barely any arm pain.

Disappear for a few hours and now you guys have moved to discussing vaccines! Well, I have had both Pfizer shots and felt nothing. No pain or fever or whatever. Either my immune system is very active or I am writing this from the Great Beyond. It is allergy season for me and I am sneezing with itchy eyes, so maybe I am not quite dead yet. :alien:

Imminent PK tennis test coming after a left arm shot. It’s mildly sore and been 4 hours since so I think I’m good to go. Weather is too good and I have a frame to test, so - onwards.

I feel like one of my hypothetical kids is going off to college. These are very complicated emotions.

i was told to titrate tylenol and ibuprofen. you can stack em. i did for the first day and figured i was ok, but ... symptoms didnt start until 24 hrs after the shot. should have stayed on them.

i have had friends, family, and colleagues who have had zero response to one or both shots. an equal number had symptoms similar to mine. at the end of the day, the vaccines are working better than anything else to get everyone back out and about.

I got the Pfizer. After dose 1 I was just fatigued for like 4 days straight. Dose 2 hit me like a freight train the day after. Then I slept for 14 hours straight and was fine.

I think generally, the youngsters have a rougher time with the vaccines than those like me who are 5th decade on. I had a bit of thigh ache after each Pfizer shot for a day, and that was it. Most of my residents had to take a couple of days off after the 2nd jab,

I wouldn’t have it in my deltoid because I use my arms for surgery. The nurse refused to give it anywhere else, so I self administered into my lateral thigh. Had to ask for a 21G needle to ensure it was long enough to get past my thigh chub.

I have a few demos at the moment including some of the usual suspects
  • Ripstick: I like it better than the PA and certainly more comfortable. The feel is a bit too muted for me but I had never played with o ports before. It’s powerful but not as crazy as some made it seem on the internet.
  • Head Speed MP: of the three tweeners (including PA) this is actually my favorite. Worth demoing alongside the PA and ripstick. Felt surprisingly plush. The thick beam is noticeable though. Liked it more than I thought I would. Would have kept playing with it but then I decided to try the EZ98+.
  • Radical Pro: felt extremely unremarkable and didn’t play for too long with it. Didn’t like the feel that much.
  • EZ98+: had this as a filler in the demo pack but wow, what a racquet! Had it as a demo last year, liked it a lot back then but for some reason didn’t get one. This was easily the best for me and made everything else look like toys. Has tons of control, feel yet can absolutely crush the ball if necessary. Definitely getting one now! My hitting partner afterwards was very clear in his assessment as well, played by far the best and hardest with this one. Of all the ones I tested, this was the only one where I felt I could hit as hard as I wanted to and put everything into my shots.
Maybe I will give the extreme tour a try for completeness as well otherwise I’m very much set on an extended racquet, likely the EZ98+. Feels like cheating hitting with it.

Oh my..yes - I love these specs. A little more to swing but honestly, this Banana could really deliver.

I feel like one of my hypothetical kids is going off to college. These are very complicated emotions.

Gads, you SOB, this may be your greatest work. This frame is exactly what I expected based on your comments, and it's rather fantastic. I spent 2.5 hours with it and I felt like my old self out there. It was honestly blissful and my teammates said it was the best they had seen me play as well. It was just fantastic tennis in 60 degree weather with the Rockies in the background, really something else.

Is this frame for everyone? Of course not, but for me it fit like a glove. The first thing I should mention is my shoulder doesn't hurt at all and my arm feels like I barely played tennis. The second is the feel. It's crispy and has incredible feedback so there is no vagueness at all - one of the more honest feedbacks I have experienced. I went dampener free which helps a lot but the ball feel is so accurate that I was able to hit tiny spots on the court just due to the confidence I had from the frame. I just knew I could go for small windows and never hesitated. So here is my review after day 1:

Groundstrokes - This is a very unique frame. There is honestly nothing like it that I have used. It just does not make sense to get such a stiff and crisp playing frame that feels so nice on contact and doesn't bother your arm. What I love on groundstrokes is that my 70% rally ball is not only loaded with spin, and I can change the trajectory at will, but also that I can put it anywhere I want. This was some of the best control I have experienced in any racquet, but when you add in the free pop, it just makes it a weapon that I think benefits a lot of players. It is a perfect balance of moving the ball anywhere I want, added with heavy spin and really nice pace. It allows me to basically shape the ball however I want for the situation and also choose what I want to do - drive it into a corner, loop it deep, hit a heavy slice..its all there for me. I felt like I had control on every shot, and even playing defense felt easy since I still felt like I had options then. In a way, the whippiness of the frame felt like it slowed the game down a little for me, and I was able to maximize the time I had before hitting the ball, which lead to more creative shots. I tested this out with sharp angles, down the line painters, heavy inside out forehands and neutral moonballs and it does everything. Additionally, the net clearance was more than acceptable. I had a much easier time getting net clearance than I did with the v7 Blade. I think this must be a combo of the more HL balance and stiffness coming into play because I cleared the net much more than I expected on questionable, low shots.

The biggest difference that stood out to everyone was my consistency was back. I didn't overcook shots, I didn't hit the net as much, I simply made less errors. My backhand felt great, I was able to hit DTL winners or just engage in long crosscourt rallies. The confidence the frame gave me just made me feel like I would not miss, which in turn, let me play a heavy and consistent game off of both wings.

A concern for me was the balance and lower SW may be too whippy, but somehow that only benefitted me. I did not see it as a negative at all. This is a control frame that goes to 11, it's the only way to describe it. Basically when I wanted to drive the ball with power, it was there and when I wanted to loop it safely into play, it was there as well. The power level is more than acceptable for me, in fact it may be perfect for my game.

Serve - I find the power quite nice with this frame. In fact I did not think that was an issue either. Is it as big as a PA? No, but what it does provide is that ability to be more consistent on serve and put the ball anywhere you want. It is such an easy frame to serve with that I was able to get myself out of 15-40 situations with it. I'd get some free points with the spin serves and then use placement to kick the opponent out wide and then hit i/o to the opposite corner. My DFs went down and I was able to hold serve more. In fact I won the most sets on the day. I credit that to the consistency of the frame.

Volley - I will play again tomorrow AM and give more detail there as I don't have a huge sample size yet. I can say that it's very easy to handle at net and I was able to put away angled shots and drop volleys that would be much more difficult to execute with a more HH frame that I usually use. Again, the confidence it provides is crazy. When I crashed the net I knew I was putting away the next shot, and I knew where the ball would go. There was no question there.

Serve Return - Ok this is where I think I may have actually said "Gads, you sweet SOB" out loud at one point because my god, what a great frame for serve returns, which are a real big part of my game. Dramatic difference from any racquet I have used in quite some time. I face some really good servers who can put the ball in the corners and kick it behind and above my shoulder. What this frame does, is allow me to return shots that are way out of my strike zone, and absolutely punish anything that is in it. On the tough returns, I can either get the ball in play on serves that I normally would not be able to , and on the easier returns I can take control of the point right away. As we know, this is huge during a match since the other guy will feel the pressure and start DFing, thats exactly what happened. One of the best serve return frames I have ever hit with easily.

So yeah, this is a lower twist weight frame so some will not jive with that. For me, it just reinforced that I personally play better with this type of racquet because I have more control over the shape of the shot. This also translates to serve where I found I could come over the top corner of the ball and get some square contact and heavy spin, which provides great consistency for me. The trajectory of the ball is the rather fantastic linear drive that always seems to drop inside the lines, but what is great is I can brush the ball and hit loopy and deep as well. The slices were excellent off both sides, so really I can not find a weakness with this frame that impacts me. I do think some will find it a little unstable if they like a higher twist weight, but since I am not that guy I only consider it to be a plus.

Just an amazing frame for me that opened my game back up and gave me 100% confidence in my shots again. Gads, I owe you some scotch or whatever your drink of choice is when you return to the US and the PNW.

We all know the honeymoon phase is a real thing, so I will not remove the wrapper off my second one just yet (which luckily is within a gram of my first), but I will say this - I'm 99% sure I'll be going with this PK moving forward, and I look forward to buying 2 more Bananas when they release.

PK is F'ing awesome.

Damn, that review may have done it. @Power Player Since you seem to know what most here will vibe with . . . Is this one for me? Is it more towards the UT/v7 realm or does it lean more PA?
Also, do I stick with my normal Wilson L4 size or do I go down 1 like I do with yonex and Babolat?

Down a size. PK runs a half size larger. Or get the L4 and replace the grip with a thinner replacement grip to make it feel like a true L4.

is it for you? Only you can know that after hitting with it. All of us passed on the TF40 and you liked it. All of us say the PT2.0 is too demanding and you found it just fine to use. Most of us like the Prestige Pro and you found it harsh. Most of us feel the RFA97 is too hefty to use and it’s one of your favorites. Most of us didn’t like the Dunlop CX 200 and you liked it fine for doubles. So as I said, only you can know...after trying it yourself.

Oh my..yes - I love these specs. A little more to swing but honestly, this Banana could really deliver.

Epic review. The Ripstick does all you described for me but I’m going to have to try the PK now. @mscream the Speed MP also deserves a trial. There are some serious tweeners out there bridging the gap right now.

Good find.

So they upped the weight by 5 grams and the SW to 330ish rather than 320ish. Honestly this tempers my enthusiasm. The beauty of this stick is how it nestles in as an In Betweener, with the whip and ease of use allowing for variety. These specs are more Playerish. So this may be a demo for me but not an instant purchase, however maybe this would also bring the Q closer to the level of the 7G in terms of that outright Bully Ball. Likely saving my Instant Purchase pennies for the Black Ace Pro.

Thanks to all the raving reviews about the Doppio, especially Gads and Power Player. I've got to get one! Does anyone know if the 290g version is essentially the same frame and can be weighted up to the same spec as the 310?

Yeah, you may have a point there with staying with lower weight/SW but I will have to try the new doppio banana. BAP has a very flexy measurement for my taste. My threshold for flex is lower 60s but not much more.

I’m staying away from the Doppio just for that reason.... the Rip w/ TS does all that for me anyway. My PK interest is the 7G. I want to really hear **** moving around.
