Diary of a Racketaholic

Holding pressure isn’t the issue. My tennis balls are pretty much bald after 2 hours of hitting. The felt on Dunlop AO and Dunlop ATPs are completely worn out after 90 mins. The felt on Penn Tour balls lasts maybe 4 hours. Wilson US Open felt lasts longer than Dunlop but not as long as Penn Tour.
Have you tried the Head Tour XT balls. They hold up pretty well.

Do you get a brand called Mantis ? it's made in Thailand and those hold up pretty well even on synthetic courts.
I know the brand. I see their racquets pop up every now and then and I won a giveaway last year where I also got a set of Mantis Tour Comfort.

I'm looking on their website now. There's different balls: Tour, Pro, Open and Team. Which one are you referring to?

I always open a new can. Its the only way.

@JGads do you wonder if TWE will do the buy 2 get a free bag thing they did with prior PKs? That would be quite something.

No idea but still nothing in the fridge.

There are a bunch of Taiwanese dudes trying to figure out just what in the h*** Jgads avatar is, as it looks like a frog on a treadmill on a tennis court. “How do we contact this frog man?”

This is funny but I'm trying to figure out how you're seeing what you're seeing...

Actually maybe it's time for a new avatar. I do have one idea. Hmm.

@JGads what string and tension have you found works best in your 7G? Is this another Element frame?

Haven't tried Element in the 7G, actually. I don't find the frame to be string sensitive, can throw almost anything in there. I have Hyper G in there now at around 53 I believe, which is ok. I think my favorite setup is in this one is actually a Tour Bite / Nvy hybrid with the Nvy a couple pounds higher. Comfortably crisp with amazing bite and plowy spinny funky action if you hit with top.

No banana doppio release. Oh well, PK certainly doesn't seem to treat release dates with any fanfare

They absolutely do not care. It's kind of amazing. I don't know whether to be infuriated or just to laugh at their impressively blasé nature.

The late release/distribution issues I understand, as everyone is having this problem. But the lack of info about the new frames. They seem to have a marketing strategy of:

Customer: "What's new in this edition!?"
PK: "I don't know. Maybe a paintjob. Maybe more. Anyway just try it. You tell us."

On social media their last post was yesterday, a picture of the Black Ace Pro with the words:

There it is, we know that you were waiting for it
We show you the new ♠ Black Ace Pro ♠

305 grams of weight, a flexible frame and all of our best technologies.

Are you curious? Look for it at our retailers

Second, don’t try to see it..... once you do, that’s all you can see. Haha. The frog is hanging out on the back.

Yup. I'm getting two Doppios because my GE is mocking me.

I gotta say, I always saw a frog- it's on the bottom left

Funny. I think it's just a snap I took of one of Dimitrov's shredded frames from a few years ago. However now that I see the frog I kind of like this photo more.

Enjoy the beans.

this is so sick. sick one 100 pro staff v13
so last night i took my pro staff 100 into battle with Mr C my highelst level reg opponent. so for the warmup i started with my Babo. so as to get the pre match kinks out and get dialed in. i have a rule that whenever im trying out a new stick i dont use it in the warp up. so i can feel the diff right away when i am warmed up with my regular stick. so after a few minutes i was dialed in, and pulled out the six one 100. right away what i noticed was the pro staff feel. its got that in spades. this feels like a pro staff. thin beam crisp .. head light the whole pro staff shabang. the hg was gripping the ball, like a fat kid holding his hoagie. so i was prepped enough after a few mins. and then went the coin toss. i won. and opted to receive.. that turned out to be a good idea.. as mr c's serve is his weakest link. i won the first game. so the 61 felt really nice. great pocketing from the open pattern .. super whippy.. etc etc. but i ended up losing my service game.. and to beat mr c . you need to be on point. at 7 pt hl which is what it ended up being after replacing the tourna grip with my usual super grap, i felt i wasnt getting enough plow.. some of my losing points i attributed to short balls. so i knew i need a little more heft. so inbetween games i took a 2g piece of lead and slapped it on at 12. this immediately felt better.. so after some back and forth i started to groove with this stick. i started to bash my serves in which is what i need to do to get a win over mr c. remember i usually take one out of 4 sets from this guy. i ended up eeking out the win. 6-4. which is a great sign for a stick in its debut session. i think i may add a little more lead at 3 and 9 and maybe counter a few g in the tail. but i won the set with the stick being 6 pt hl.. and a little over 11.6 oz.. so this one is a keeper. it feels like a players frame. but with more bite and power. i may experiment a little and change the strings from hg to champions choic.e because there is so much direct feel from this thing i think the champ choice will soften the impact and will work wonders in this frame. so all in all its a great frame. i look forward to making a few adjustments with it. i cannot believe wilson isnt selling this in the us. im telling you guys this is the best pro staff avail for rec players. it blows away the non rf 97.. so much bigger of a sweetspot. so much more clip and rip like a tweener. so im not saying that im switching to this from my babo. im very very used to the babo feel. but this stick is the best wilson i have used to date. i look forward to changing the strings. thats where i feel this was a little string sensitive. again. this is a thin beam head light open pattern stick. it doesnt need a sharp poly. im really thinking champ choice was meant for this type of frame.

In a way, I am relieved after reading your review. While much of what you said is almost exactly what I expected it to be (in that you the 6.1 GOATiness is friendlier, easier to use package), I had forgotten about he fact that practically 6.1s need added weight to achieve perfection. That higher starting weight plus the need for additional lead will likely exclude this frame from being a competitor for me. Will I still end up trying to track one down, probably. But to overtake the EZ as my main.

I also agree with you that as much as I want a 6.1 to be happy with full poly, they really are meant for gut/poly setups. It's like it unlocks a special mode where the light shines down from the heavens, angels sing, and the stick suddenly becomes imbued with a power hitherto unseen by the likes of we recreational tennis fanatics.

lol. yeah.. spin is not something that this stick needs. it has more spin potential than a pure aero. and thats because of the thin beam which reels in the power. what it does need is a little lead in the hoop .. ripe for customization, and a softer more powerful string so as to avoid short balls. and this is why i mentioned the champ choice. but any hybrid would work i suppose. im just more inclined for the champ choice myself. anyone who has used a pro staff 97 or even the rf 97 and thought if only it had more power, if only the sweet spot were bigger, if only it were lighter.. well this is it. i was able to play my best tennis with just the addition of 2g of lead at 12. and with more tinkering will improve on that. a def must try for anyone who digs the pro staff line but then was pulled back to their tweener.

Dudeness,
This is a 305gr stick that comes in about 12hl unstrung and 16x19. This has nothing to do with 6.1 pro labs... which is almost 30gr heavier in static weight and another 20-25pts heavier in SW and 18x20. so when you say they need weight and compare it to other 6.1s it's almost a completely different racket other than the layup...

I would argue that 280-285 (unstrung) sw (which mine was)... would be at best 310s unstrung. I did not doubt for a second that it would need some weight and told @danbrenner that he is going to need lead as well. Though he said he didn't think so...

To me, they have built this one so you can customize it as opposed to 6.1 95 beast which is 350gr strung static weight, 335sw, 18x20, 95inch headsize. It's like someone asked wilson.. create the hardest to play racket you possibly can... and they were like... "on it..." hahah

so ryushen - Point being... do not feel relieved... you should still have panic and anxiety bugging you on the back of your mind about this one.

Just running the rough calculations in my head, 305g unstrung (assuming that I got one in spec) would result in a static weight around 331g after strings, OG, and dampener. Then, let's assume that we're talking at least 2g at 12 (but probably a bit more in my case to get closer to 4-6pts HL), and (at least from my own experience) 3-4g at 3/9. That's gonna be in the ballpark of 340g static weight. That's 14g heavier than my current setup on the EZ.

Which brings me around to the question of "can this 6.1 out-EZ my EZ?" And I already know the answer to that. Furthermore, it violates the inherent ethos of the 6.1 line to try to turn it into something different. It needs to be met on its own terms and I'm entirely too enamored with the lower static weight/less HL balance racquet concept at the moment.

The temptation is still there to get one. Especially as I found out today the Yonex bags are back-ordered. And there's money in my Paypal account just waiting to be spent on something.

Yes. I mean you already achieved this superior state of being logical so there is nothing I can tell you if you are going to be "all logical" on me on the holic thread...
haha.. just kidding man... yes you are probably very much dead-on with your assessment.

Honestly, I don't know what happened.. I must have hit my head 2 weeks ago or something. I have neither desire nor motivation/curiousity or anything else to hit with anything other than my blades. I am not questioning it too much... just going with it at the moment. This past weekend i brought 3 rackets to court. Hit with one 5 mins... and I was like "naaah.... not even close..." so just picked up the blade. Maybe I got demo fatigue or something.. but I have this 6.1, vc98, doppio, blade 15 and few other rackets sitting there but I just don't even feel like giving them a hit at the moment. Really loving the blades and I have lost matches (so it's not like I am winning with it only or anything) and had my "bad Tuesday" or whatever the fck...

anyways.. before we get thrown out of this thread...i better shut up...

I don't know if I'd call it logical. Maybe practical is the better word to use. I'm still thoroughly illogical with all my desires for the 18x20 EZ and trying to figure out how to make that happen.

That being said, the EZ's position on the throne is unassailable.

u looking to get the blue ezone ones? yeah they look really nice...
Yeah., the pro series 9 Pack. Kinda wanted the black but the blue isn't bad either.

Reached out to PK via social. I don't expect much more than an emoji and "Soon!!", but if I get more info I will share.
I think PK is conducting the shrewdest of marketing. Forget advertising and promoting no no no. Just a picture and say nothing and don’t even provide anything on release date. It’s the reverse psychology of marketing. The masses will clamor to find out more and there will be no information. They’ll just buy when they finally see it. Let’s face it, maybe they are just shrewd ;)

The Guillotine Hit is something I suspect many in here will understand. There's a frame in the collection that no longer seems to have a place. Whereas once it may have been a lead horse, suddenly it's surrounded. Cornered. Weak.

And so, it faces the Guillotine. It's brought out along with those other, badder sticks of the moment and is forced to fight to live another day. "Wow me." "Show me something." If so, you can stay in the mix. If not, off with your head. Or your Wilson. And to the classifies. Nine times out of ten, this is a losing battle, and there is blood left on the baseline. This fate befalls even the mightiest of warriors. Ask William Wallace.

And such was the fate of the almighty v7 tonight. This is a stick I love. A Blade I think will live in infamy for its old-baseball-mitt softness and massaging control of the ball that you just don't find in Blades, which more often are made to Mash and Bash and do so mightily but at the cost of depth control and net clearance. This one was a far more nuanced Blade, and a worthy weapon for me, truly. But with the reemergence of the more versatile PKs, and the fact that when I Blade these days, I want to Blade Pro, well out came the guillotine. And the Blade was itself hacked.

The PKs are better for me and have wounded the hell out of the v7 for weeks. Tonight, even the modded Ultra Tour was far and away the better frame with its new longer spec that is now delighting me more and more. So this was the finishing cut. The UT can be ruthless like that. Had no shame tonight in murdering a fellow W.

So pour one out for this v7, boys. It's been a good ride, but this one deserves a new owner, greater playing time somewhere else.

May as well clear a little space for fresh produce.

Does the 2019 SP come with the square-ish TK82S pallet or the rectangular-ish TK82 pallet?
If it came with the TK82S, does it mean your friend is oaky with the handle shape, but prefer the less flared Yonex butt cap?

If so, you can stay in the mix.

Not the Blade! Say it isn't so!!!
