Did anyone notice Rafael checking with Toni?

In the second set.
He was down a set and Stan was serving out of his mind.

Rafael looks at Toni. Toni's says something and gestures with hand. The camera quickly cuts away.
Then they showed a replay of Rafael actually gesturing to Toni.

Isn't this plain embarrassing?
He may have all the titles. That doesn't mean he is GOAT.

Didn't catch this, but if it's real I'd like to see it. Just plain embarrassing for me as a Rafa fan if what you're hinting at is actually the case. :-?

Yeah, I saw it. And he's still tier two BTW.

I saw it but I didn't record the match. Toni signaled Nadal to take MTO when Nadal told him he is hurt...as their body language and expression,,, I don't understand Spanish so not sure 100% what they said

Time violation, fake injury and coaching - the unholy trinity.
amen !

And?

What is the point of your post?

Toni was actually telling(not signalling) Rafa to quit while he was still in the first set with Ferrer in 2011. Here, probably gestured to Rafa that he should take a timeout to get his back sorted. He was probably worried about his nephew's condition.

And anyway, if this is all a ploy to cool off Wawrinka with a strategic MTO and Nadal's injury was fake, shouldn't Nadal know the routine by now? Does he need Tony to signal the MTO every time? I mean, how hard can it be, when you are losing, take a MTO before your opponent's serve.

The Nadal are the mafia of the ATP world, they can slow down surfaces and rig draws but simple things such as these elude them.

lol..defending unto death. Sigh, I havent missed this place at all.

A player shouldn't communicate with his coach during a match, should he? I don't want to label Rafa as a cheater, but rule is a rule. He better follow it in the future.

He is a GOAT at two things: cheating and OCDs.

Right, condition.

Diagnosed as ********itis.

They first said the injury happened in warm up. Why was there no communication by Rafa to Toni about an "injury" when the score was 0-0?

I have never once seen Federer being coached or talked to by anyone from his box. Federer is a class sportsman. Plays by the rules.

Players are allowed to talk to their box, the box is not allowed to talk back.

Nadal felt twinges in the week before the final, but per Toni Nadal, they were not enough to cause a problem. It likely got worse while he was practicing between the SF and the final. In the SF, the blister had healed and the back was not enough to really bother him. Then, by the second set, he was suffering from back pain or back spasms, with perhaps a pulled muscle. The timing was unfortunate for him, but he'll be back at full strength most likely within a week. As far as his box, I think they knew it was a potential problem right from the outset and when they saw him really pull up in pain, they too realized that basically the match was over for Nadal.

There have been so many times I've seen the camera showing Uncle Phony coaching and then quickly cut away. Why? Who are they protecting?

Anyway - I saw the clip - it was a millisecond or so. Funny thing is he always glances up at the TV screen and sneakily tugs his hat down low over his eyes..lol.

Guilty as charged - no coaching allowed.

what clip? i looked carefully at the opening of the 2nd set till the MTO,
there was only one time when he was encouraging...
no signalling or anything illegal.

LOL I saw this too. Funny that they had camera on Toni throughout the match.

I wonder who put it there? He was clearly unaware of it.

I saw it as well while watching the recorded match on my PC. I can post it tomorrow if by that time nobody else does it.

Because of these tactics, Federer lost 23-10...Its just coz cheating

Two way communication, is not it?

Wow. I remember seeing it but the sequence of the TV shots (Toni first and then Nadal) kind of didn't latch on my brain. When I viewed what you posted, it was clear.

Maybe Nadal was telling his stroke didn't work and Toni was just re-affirming a pre-match strategy but still, makes you wonder. Wish every coach had the composure of Lendl & Edberg and not get animated during the game or shout.

Yes, well, they put the coaches close to the players because it makes good television, so the authorities could put them at the back of the stadium if they wanted an easy fix.
