Did Borg played in Adidas sneakers?

Seems that before he signed contract with Diadora he used Tretorn and Adidas sometimes. During his first Wimbledon win in 1976 i can think that he used Stan Smith. Is it correct? And what his full tennis shoes history (models/years/tournaments)? Thank you.

You are correct.........in 1976 Wimbledon Borg wore the white/green adidas that had been renamed from Robert Haillet to Stan Smith.

BUT you could still find some Halliet labeled shoes in Europe thru the mid 1970s................but he didn't sign with Diadora and Tretorn until later.

He also wore the adidas at Roland Garros................Did wear the Tretorns at the 1976 US Open

I think he got some contract from Adidas because, you know, he used to wear Adidas track suit (i saw orange and red) before signed with Fila. Though not because it was an official track suit of ATP then. At least i never heard from official Adidas that such a sports phenomenal person like Borg used their stuff.

I saw pictures where Borg used Tretorn Nylite during his debut at senior Wimbledon in 1973 wears Slazenger polo, shorts (socks ?) as a part of his Slazenger contract. He also used Slazenger vest, sweater and track suit as well.

toward the end of his career I believe he used the red diadora Borg elites that were made of kangaroo leather? I remember they marketed those as their top of the line shoes back then

At one time he would wear different brand clothing in Europe and the US.

For shoes he wore Tretorn's in the US and adidas in Europe. At some point it became Tretorn's only.

He also used Bancroft racquets in the US and Donnay's in Europe (I have no idea if that was just a paint job).

But Adidas put Stan Smith's face on the tongue of the Adidas Stan Smith.
Yes, you're right. Just one thing, Adidas changed Haillet to Smith in 1971, and this picture dated 1976. Did Borg have so many pairs from previous model or may be Adidas was sponsoring him with smth like pro stock without tongue picture and side lettering?

I did not realize that about the Adidas shoes, great ask. I do remember that Borg was the first player to use "modern" grass court shoes. Diadora invented the shoe with the nubbed cleats for Borg. They asked Borg to keep them in a bag and change only when he got on court and to change again when he left court. Funny thing is the Stan Smith (for sure) and maybe the Haillet had a nubbed sole as well. They just didn't extend from the sole.

Borg is wearing Haillet's there. The clue is the plain, unmarked tongue.

That shoe took on the Stan Smith endorsement in the early 70's when his picture and name was added, but it was essentially just the Haillet. It got re-vamped in about 1978 I think, when the tongue got a new photo, two slits for laces to feed through (Stan's request) and the more traditional green heel patch was added with the Adidas trefoil and Stan's name underneath.

Interesting though that Borg was wearing an old model of a shoe in 1976.

First Adidas just renamed Haillet to S.Smith, and it was in 1971. Later they made the changes you've been told about.
I'm wondering where Borg did get those old Haillet in 1976 (and he needed many of them), may be it was pro stock model because Borg was sponsoring by Adidas for shoes that time (along with Tretorn). I read about it in one old article recently that's why I paid attention to his use of Adidas. Knowing Borg's ability to jam money from everything I can suggest that Borg was sponsoring by Adidas.

Yes, that's what I said, Adidas just changed the endorsement initially and then re-vamped the shoe in 1978.

Without asking Mr Borg directly, I can only guess. My guess is that Borg wanted to wear that shoe but by 1976 the first gen Smith branding was on it, so Adidas provided him with an un-endorsed version.

Yes, that's what i mean saying pro stock shoes.
Also i read the memories of Rascoe Tanner whom Borg beat in the semis that 1976. He told that Lennart Bergelin, Borg's coach, made some modernisation of his shoes for grass courts, so Borg could move easier. As he told nobody except Borg had that kind of grass court shoes that time.
