Here is my limited take on the LIKE issue. TW is a very large company offering a wonder BB service to support many, many tennis lovers all over the world. Thanks so much TW! When you get complaints and possible loss of business from something you are supplying for free, you don't understand why there is an issue only that there is.

Simple... remove the issue. The world is filled with very sensitive folks that at times equate "social media" to real life and their self esteem and self worth might also be connected in someway. Sad but true. I enjoy the lively and passion exchange of ideas and have learned much about tennis.. health and fitness and yes some life lessons. Outside of the this excellent BB service TW provides.. most folks have an actual life and Talk Tennis is the frosting on the cake.. but not the cake. :).

It is clear when a business acts on something like this.... it is an issue.. real or not. Why deal with it... remove it.. End of Story. I would do the same in a NY minute!!

Okay, I get what you're saying to some extent. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

Not sure I entirely agree on the "same content" assessment.

I'm highly creative by nature, and this place ends up serving as an outlet for a bit of it. And a lot of it feeds into my writing as well. So I'm constantly cranking out fresh "material." :D

Believe we'd discussed the matter of breaks, at some point. When it becomes too toxic in here, and I get too busy outside of here, I bid the site adieu.

It's always great, but then again this does nourish a certain element of thought stimulation for me (at least that's my rationalization ;) ).
Well, it's as you said, it's what you make of it. I glad that this forum gives you a lot of material that helps you with your creative writing. It's worth hanging around in that case. I sometimes get inspired too. I think that's what I look for other than having some genuine fun and perhaps, having a meaningful discussion here and there once in a while.

Are you a writer by any chance or intend to be one in the near future?

He's liked many posts, including my own, he just hasn't used the like button to do so.

His reasons for not using the like button are spurious given that making a post implies liking it at some level, so being able to like your own post with a button would be paradoxical.

The board is not really built to handle paradoxical communication.

There is a certain Bionic Poster here with over 50,000 postings who has never "liked" a single post. Not one.
Is there treatment for this condition?
:(

Facebook allows liking of one's own posts. This is as it should be. It indicates that poster feels very strongly on what he has just posted.

Posters can always add 'very' if that's the case, so the Facebook solution is one without a problem.

Among other things, yep.

It's an aptitude. :)

But as far as message boards go, there's a ton to be gleaned beyond inspiration for writing.

I go all in on whatever I do, so I like to maximize every experience.

They obviously serve a commercial purpose even if that is now somewhat obsolete given the dominance of TW.

I initially got technical advice from the boards, but I got more knowledgeable and the playtesters took over from the board itself as the source of advice.

I then discovered Rants&Raves was full of anti-Obama sentiment in a ratio of, say, nine out of ten posters against. I never suspected such a turn in my tennis education.

What are the boards built for, in your view?

What do you get from them?

Appreciate that.

Was almost rhetorical as I am not accustomed to replies from you.

Re that R&R of which I've heard so much, it seems that you are a survivor. Congrats.

They didn't just shut down R&R. Many didn't get the message and were immediately suspended. The like button removal is child's play.

Life is about kicks

You get a kick out of it when someone likes your post

These days in order to get a kick you need a quote

Usually when you quote someone you dont quite agree with them. So in order to get kicks it’ll force ppl to post controversial posts, so that they can get that kick

Can this thread be construed as mods decision questioning and therefore deleted, and you finally punished accordingly, facing a criminal process?
Yes, you could be exiled to MTF for the gazillion threads you have created about this issue.

Is it me or is it just really stupid to have moderation issues over likes? Are people that up tight? Sad
Some people were incredibly sensitive and read too much into it.

I was once hounded for liking a post or two of vive_le and threatened that I would be reported for trolling (for having liked his post).

Too late.
He probably never got much love as a kid, and thus doesn;t want to show any :D
He will probably justify it by saying Liking a post amounts to bullying or harassment.

Yep yep yep. If you want to constantly be involved, you must quote someone, and usually you find someone you disagree with and start arguing. The hopes is that your quote becomes an educational tennis debate.

We are not there yet... and going backwards.

Just got off the phone with the Central Mod in Kansas. Was informed the beloved button will be back and the likes will shureshly flow like never before.

This has all been planned...

Remember when Coke was discontinued and then bought back due to popular demand?

Eliminating the unconscious need to please others may lead to more independence of thought, with resultant increases in creativity, innovation, economic opportunity, productivity, and growth of GDP. (Some theft of intellectual property from abroad may still be inevitable)
Adorable, you think more independent thought will be a good thing. I would argue we have too much independent thought, and that thought is rubbish.
