The sociolect of most groups appears odd, but it's only the ones belonging to those outside the elite that tend to get defined as 'defective' and therefore parodied.

A lot of the humour of the original Monty Python stems from parodying upper class speech patterns and behaviours, which is of course the class that they were rebelling against at the time.
Some dude on here attempted to parody my communication style recently.

What he came up with is a copy-paste from Wikipedia.

A slightly sad commentary.

The reason I liked the button is probably the reason it was banned.

If a whole host of people liked posts that were attacking you, then you knew who to respond to.

It functions also, therefore, as a bullying device and the site does have a youngish clientele so there are good reasons to ban it.
Yes, stupidity happens, but I think it was not the rule.

Interesting.

I've often wondered the same about those who choose (is it a choice?) to be drones utterly concrete. :)

Is there a thread about this?
That's a good point. It's not a choice. More like an urge (or a deep feeling as soon as you gain consciousness) that comes from within. Some are open, honest and transparent whereas some are more reserved and private. I enjoy the contrast. Obscure vs concrete etc. I'd say in the art world, obscurity is much more appreciated. In real life, clarity is more appreciated. I don't see a business (or a country) running on some obscure terms, for example. In other words, both expressions are equally needed to compliment each other.

Do you suppose obscure or abstract ideas are more complicated or more intellectual? If it's, say, inherent then why should it be? Did Mozart find it complicated to compose? Do you find it hard to write abstract messages? Did Dali find it difficult to paint abstract paintings? Could we really take credit for those?

Is there a thread for it? I don't seem to see one.

Yeah, appreciate the thoughtful response.

I'm seeing some misplaced judgments here, though. As examples, you characterize the alternative to "reserved and private" as "open, honest and transparent."

What's wrong with this picture?

If an individual is reserved and/or private, it doesn't imply dishonesty. So, while you have taken time to offer some insight, I believe you are baring your prejudices a bit here. I suppose that—for some—difficulty interpreting certain kinds of language results in a negative perception. That's on that person, I'm afraid.

At any rate, I'm not aware of a thread along these lines. Would likely contribute to one, tho.

No judgement there on my part. Just an observation. How else would you describe it? If I were to say Beethoven was a very reserved and private kind of person - would it imply he was dishonest? It's just a difference between the two worlds and that's all. Artistic people can be reserved and private but a political person or a person in power can't afford it. They need to be transparent because people need to trust them. There's no wrong or right there. It's just two very different worlds that express two different ideas or expressions.

But you are right, if someone perceives or interprets this in a negative way then it's on that person. I may be very open on the forum, in person, I am very private and reserved. People don't always understand me and it's because I have no reason to open myself up if I don't feel like it or if that's how I prefer it. This no way means I am dishonest or unkind. Quite the contrary.

Judgment/observation/whatever you wish to call it... The point is that "reserved and quiet" does not equate to "dishonest."

That's just your personal value system speaking.

I am not sure how many folks on these boards are truly "open," to be honest. And to be clear, I have no expectation of that or problem with it. But IMO, most here play a character, to some extent.

Looks like I had skimmed over another revealing remark in your previous post:
I'd say in the art world, obscurity is much more appreciated. In real life, clarity is more appreciated
Bit off the mark—and borderline offensive—wouldn't you say? For some people, art constitutes their "real life."

It would be an interesting experiment if the software altered everyone's username randomly at periodic intervals.

Just got off the phone with the Central Mod in Kansas. Was informed the beloved button will be back and the likes will shureshly flow like never before.

This has all been planned...

Remember when Coke was discontinued and then bought back due to popular demand?

I hope it will be a longer return than Napoleon’s botched attempt to regain power after exile to Elba. That was about a year before his fail at Waterloo and the final journey to St. Helena.

There were days when I would just log in and like a lot of poast. No need to say anything.
Now one is forced to speak up.

Puts a lot of strain on introverts like me.
It really does take the voice (words) from the people that sit back and think/read. With likes, they still had a voice, but now they are forced to reply in order to be involved.

Life is about kicks

Girl, you thought you found the answer
On that magic carpet ride last night
But when you wake up in the mornin'
The world still gets you uptight
Well, there's nothin' that you ain't tried
To fill the emptiness inside
When you come back down, girl
Still ain't feelin' right
And don't it seem like
Kicks just keep gettin' harder to find
And all your kicks ain't bringin' you peace of mind
Before you find out it's too late, girl
You better get straight
No, but not with kicks, you just need help, girl
Well you think you're gonna find yourself
A little piece of paradise
But it ain't happened yet, so girl, you better think twice
Don't you see no matter what you do
You'll never run away from you
And if you keep on runnin' you'll have to pay the price
And don't it seem like
Kicks just keep gettin' harder to find
And all your kicks ain't bringin' you peace of mind
Before you find out it's too late, girl
You better get straight
No, you don't need kicks
To help you face the world each day
That road goes nowhere
I'm gonna help you find yourself another way
Kicks just keep gettin' harder to find
And all your kicks ain't bringin' you peace of mind
Before you find out it's too late, girl
You better get straight
Don't it seem like
Kicks just keep gettin' harder to find
And all your kicks ain't bringin' you peace of mind
Before you find out it's too late, girl
You better get straight

The worst part of it is that I’m not sure if I am funny anymore.
Now I feel that I am terribly boring.

Longer return? Shirley you mean a quicker return for the button. Please revert back to this secure likeable messaging system on whether you were a signatory to the Treaty of Fontainebleau.

Just make a phew more threads on the discontinuation of Like button and you'll be fine.

- Is the removal of Like button a Human Rights Violation (poll incl).
- Should UNSC be alerted about Like Violation
- Does/should US Constitution guarantee access for all to Like Button
- Blackest Day in History of Internet (Like Button)
- Yet another thread about the Like Button
- Is Like Button the New GOAT ?
- This is NOT a Like Button thread
- Will Like Button removal lead to WWIII ?

Eliminating the unconscious need to please others may lead to more independence of thought, with resultant increases in creativity, innovation, economic opportunity, productivity, and growth of GDP. (Some theft of intellectual property from abroad may still be inevitable)
I hadn’t seen it that way. Thanks.

Will never ever like your poasts if they reinstate the Like button.
You are full of hate, sir! Sumday you’ll wake up crying in the middle of the night with a Surprise Chocolate Release(TM), and there will be nobody to comfort you.
Sorry if I sound rude, it’s because I care.

The chocolate will comfort me.
I have several Mars Bars and Snickers in my safe hidden behind the gold bars and diamonds for those days when I get up weepy.

Just watched my DVR of the Cincy final and wondering why couldn't Rodgers have Meddie's serve on CP ???

Yep. From 15-40 to championship. Racket smash, and then bang x4.

Will a brother ever find love in Paradice?

A brother will find everlasting love but Dean will usurp Paradice with a smooth Schick Tracer FX stache removal maneuver to become no one and steal Caelynn's heart.

Actually is some code involved to do a LIKE. If you have a SDK, you can see the code that generates the reactions. Could be causing the server to churn a little since it has to track / report the reactions. Anyway, it was not there with the old forum S/W and people lived with it. Life is transient and subject to change. [/sarcasm] I want my LIKE back :happydevil: but in the overall scheme of issues, it really does not matter. [/end sarcasm]
I don't think anyone has the SDK to do a proper like anymore as it has been obsoleted and has not been backported and recognized by the devlopment team. I may be wrong.
