Different versions of Volkl V1?

Hi people,

Volkl V1: Original, Quantum, Catapult, and 10 year-edition. How do they compare? Is it easier to handle than C10 pro? Are they that good (C10 and V1s)? I'd like to demo them someday. Thanks in advance!

Tenny.

In case someone wants to know my style (Do I have a style yet?)...I am an improving 3.5 (not sure). 'All-court game' sounds good to me so, that's my style in 5 years. Now 30-something. Run & serve well. Begin having confidence in my groundies. Pretty good (IMO of course) 1HB. Most importantly, I play prostaff6.0 95, POG OS, Head classic mid/mp (just got them). Can handle 12+oz sticks without problem. I admire BBB because I cannot even treat these 3 racquests 'fairly' (love them all, gotta play them evenly??). So, generally try not to expand my collection not to confuse myself. Volkl is almost my last leg of racquet quest.

different V1s. homework.

I've done my homework. I've read TW feedback pages regarding the different versions. They must be really good ones cause everyone was admiring their racquets (10 year edition, cat, quantum). But unfortunately, not much comparison there. Just a couple say that the original has relative weakness in control department, quantum is more precise, etc. Are they SO different? Any comment welcome! Maybe I will just try C10 to avoid headache.

""Comments: I tried all of the V1 series since the original, now being re-introduced as the "Classic", first came out in the 90s. I liked the headsize, headlight maneuverability, medium power and large sweet spot, and cushioned response since I've had elbow problems in the past. I've come to like the MP V1 Catapult the best. The first model (Classic) was great and easy on the arm, but control suffered a bit. The V1 Quantum felt a little more crisp (good feel for the ball which helped control) and maneuverable, and I thought I'd stay with that one. I demoed the V1 Catapult at a local shop and wasn't too impressed initially. I felt it played a little more loosely than the Quantum. But then another shop was closing out Volkl rackets and had a Catapult in excellent shape for $70. I bought it, and thought I'd give in an extended try. I kept returning to the Quantum, which I felt was a little more maneuverable and had better control. However, given a proper chance to show its assets, I've found the Catapult to be the best blend of power, control, and comfort. I'm just afraid that folks need to give this racket a fair chance, which isn't always easy with demos or when you have important matches and you don't have the luxury of "learning" to use a new racket....."

Tenny,

I have both the V-1 Classic and V-1 Classic 10 Yr Anniv. racquets. As NBMJ indicated, the specs are slightly different but imo they play very similarly. The 10 Yr Anniv. is stiffer but not as stiff as the number would indicate (72). It is lighter and has a lower swingweight according to the USRSA lab tests. The Quantum V1 is the lightest of the three and has the lowest swing weight and power. Here are the USRSA specs:
Model Lgth Head Wt Flex SW Bal Power
V1 Classic 27.00 102.00 11.04 68.00 320 33.50 2220
V1 Quantum 27.00 102.00 10.19 68.00 300 34.25 2081
V1 10 Yr 27.00 102.00 10.42 72.00 310 34.50 2277
I currently use the 10 Yr Anniv. V-1 Classic but my high school son uses the V-1 Classic. I have no problem interchanging the two Classic racquets and notice very little difference in how they play. I just like the graphics better on the 10 Yr Anniv. Classic. Either way you can't go wrong with these racquets. They are very arm friendly and offer a good balance of power and control for a tweener player. I am just starting to play with a little lead tape on the handle. Good luck. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Demoed 3 different Babolats(VS NCT,Storm TM, & Z max) along with the VI. Night and day difference serving. I also asked my opponent who I play regularly and he felt my serving speed was way down from my normal.

Yolkl,
I can't speak for the VS NCT or Storm as I dont know the specs nor have I ever demo'd either. I do know the Z Max has entirely different specs than the V-1 Classics. Its a light, head heavy, powerful racquet. I had no control with this one but my groundries were very powerful.

Match-Point- Good job on those specs.

Yolkl- I use the V1 original and LOVE it but I too can't serve with it. Can't generate the pace I do w/ other racquets and controll is less than spot-on. I'm going to experiment w/ lead tape on the handle to make it more head light. There seems to be enough mass in the head as is, so lowering the b.p. may help me whip the through the serve. When I get around to doing this I'll let you know how goes...

Match-point- I don't know how to read the balance numbers (33.5 vs. 34.5). Which racquet is more head light, the classic or the 10 yr.?

Even balance is 13.5 inches or 34.3 centimeters. They both are very close to being EVEN balanced but the old V-1 Classic is just HL and the 10 yr is just HH. TW calls them balanced.

Tenny the main thing to be aware of, and the reason I didnt comment more is that the C10 is on the more demanding end of the spectrum, and all the V1's fall into the forgiving range. I think you should decide if you belong in the more demanding area or the more forgiving area, then we can help you narrow your choices. As to the V1's, the Quantum series is often the least liked (no offense to any Quantum lovers)

BTW, slight vairances in specs from manufacturer/TW/USRSA's web sites may be whether they were strung when tested as well as product variances. Was told by an USRSA staffer that racquet specs evolve after they are first released both due to intentional manuf. changes and/or change in production processes/material variances. I doubt the tolerances for tennis racquets are as tight as surgical/medical equipment.

NB Mojo comments on the C1- and V-1 Quantum are consistent with the feedback I have received from other tennis professionals in the Volkl know. NBMJ knows Volkl framesas well as anyone.

V1 Catapult MP is a nice, forgiving racket that I think is best used from the baseline. I found it hard to control the volleys. It has a nice size sweetspot, and feels easy on the arm. Just couldn't control the volleys.

Different versions of Volkl V1

I'm a serious junior and I've played with the Quantum V1 for over 2 years. They're great racquets and I feel they give me great control and manuverability. The manuverability is especially great( this is important to me because I'm a diehard counterpuncher). But if you're looking for it to play more like a players frame tan string over the recommended tension of 50-60. I've been stringing mine at 70 for 2 years and they've held up great. Truly great racquet.

Demo ordered

Thanks guys for the answers.
Very helpful! I've ordered TW demo racquets. C10 and V1 10year edition are included. Slaz X-1 and PS6.0 85 are the other two. Can't wait!
