Dimensions of Yonex bare handle

This isn't too likely, but I figured I would ask....

I want to swap the thin, ridged Yonex replacement grip on an RDS 001 for a thin TW leather, however I am very concerned that underlying bare handle is thicker than other brands.

Just looking at the top of the handle, I think this might be the case. If anyone is able to measure with string the circumference of a bare 1/4 Yonex handle, it would be HUGELY appreciated. I can measure the same on a Prince racquet and post for comparison purposes. I'd do it myself, but the Yonex grips are nearly impossible to remove and reuse cleanly.

This way I can proceed with the grip swap with confidence OR sell my racket and go down a grip size.

I can confirm that Yonex bare handles are indeed thicker than other brands. I have taken grips off most of my racquets (A lot), Dunlop, Babolat and Wilson bare handles are all thinner than Yonex's, in the same grip size (4 1/4).

I used to think that Yonex grip sizes ran small, but to me the issue is that the stock synthetic grip is too thin. Replace the stock grip with a "normal" replacement grip and the grip size then runs true to size IMO.

thanks for the info. the approximate grip size with replacement grip is pretty close between my RDS and POG longbody (with prince leather), though I know that the leather is thicker than this yonex grip (which is just terrible with the ridges). guess i will have to get some 1/8 yonexes and install the leather on those.

From experience, the thinner version TW leather (1.3mm I think) is about the same thickness as Yonex original synthetic grip (1.6mm) due to compression of the syn grip, so they "feel" similar in thickness.

Prince leather and babolat leather are all thicker. The1.3mm TW leather is one of the thinnest leathers. You should try one on the Yonex handle, it shouldn't feel any thicker than stock.

Another thin leather is **** leather but they are more expensive.

thanks for the tip, maestro. i had one of the thin TW leathers lying around, but things still felt a little too thick for me.

FYI, as confirmation re. the handle dimensions, the measured circumference of my 1/4 YONEX bare handle was virtually identical to the 3/8 WILSON and PRINCE bare handles!

I am going to drop to the 1/8 yonexes and be quite happy with the results, just wish i wouldnt have to lose out selling these minty RDS 001 and 003 in 1/4 for cheap .
