Dimitrov more popular than Djokovic

I just noticed that Grigor is 3rd and Novak 4th in this year ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite competition.

ATPWorldTour.com Fans' Favourite presented by Moët & Chandon (Singles)
Roger Federer: The Swiss has been voted ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite presented by Moët & Chandon for a record 12th straight year, receiving 65 per cent of all votes cast. Rafael Nadal finished second, followed by Grigor Dimitrov, Novak Djokovic and Kei Nishikori.

So the guy with only one GS semifinal appearance in his career, globally is more popular, admired and recognizable than the current world number 1, current Wimbledon champion and 7 time GS winner...

How the hell is this even possible

Looks. Charm. The most successful players are not necessarily the most popular players. See Exhibit A: Lendl, Ivan

Seems like Djokovic's attempts to make himself more likable backfired. Maybe people cannot forget/forgive his behavior from a few years ago?

It's possible , look closer
-Nike is mutual sponsor for Fedrerer and Dimitrov,
- ATP Sponsor of Fan's Favourite competition is Moet Chandon and Federer is their main model
-Godsik. former IMG agent and Federer now own PR company, Grigor became client this year .
- Then they are teenage girls/boys who appriciate look( and Girgor has it )before anything , we see how it works here with nadal fangirls like clayqueen and octobrina .

How do these points relate to votes by fans!??!

Clearly these voters have been frequenting the TTW forums and have been influenced by posters such as Chico, 5555, Noelan and recently Djokovic2011

These kind of popularity polls are really unhinged. They should really be called "Which player has the most rabid fanbase"

Too much simplification in this statement, Novak didn't committed any crime that can't be forgiven.
Primarly tennis and all sports today are bussines.
Nike began to promote new media and marketing star, this is a trial balloon, before Federer will retire from active sports.
For the second biggest Nike marketing star future does not look reliably at this time because there are too many injuries for him and they want some who will stay for longer period of time. Brand is not so easy to build.

You look at us as unworthy and undesirable species, it just shows how the media affect the overall picture of something, and this is the type of media.
You could look at just how many times have you called me here and in no way I didn't offend any of your favorites. My only sin here is I'm trying to answer the many untruths that are uttered here on a daily basis about Novak and for what I support him as a player.

You're making no sense, but I'll humor you for a bit regardless :)

First of all, Djokovic ****ed off a lot of American fans with his behavior at the USO a few years ago, especially the incident where he was having a dig at Roddick during the on-court interview after beating him. That showed 0 class and was disgusting to watch; the crowd's reaction was justified.

Secondly, his suspiciously frequent defaults early in his career.

Thirdly, his antics (imitations, ripping shirts, screaming like Godzilla, cursing in Serbian like a madman, etc.).

Also, cringe worthy "like me" incidents, for example the little girl singing his press conference.

Must I continue?

One thing is actually common between ALL THREE: Federer/Nadal/Dimitrov

And it's related to the aesthetics of the game! Any good guesses?

Federer ain't perfect either you know, in fact far from it. I could be here for quite some time listing all his misdemeanours over the years but unlike you I prefer to stay in the present.

Players are judged for who they are (especially in a poll for favorite player) and this includes their past.

1. Federer broke his racket during his match vs Djokovic 2009 Miami Masters
2. Federer told Djokovic's parents to "shut up" at some event (2008 Monte Carlo Masters?)
3. Federer shook his finger at Djokovic after defeating him at 2011 French Open and then screamed in his direction.
4. Federer dismissed Djokovic's match-point saving shot at 2011 USO and said it was a thing amateurs do.
5. Federer questioned the legitimacy of Djokovic's wrist injury

Conclusion: Federer displays his worst behavior towards Djokovic b/c he secretly hates him :-P

Well I for sure can't change your narow opinion and your predjudice, nor your desire to ridicule him .Many of the words that are written by anonimus here, and it seems that this forum obsessed with Novak, are much worse than any of his alleged animal behavior, and the truth is that man is one of the best athletes of the world, and one of the most dedicated to his work, and hes interjected himself and his game between two chosen and therefore must pay the price.

Also, Federer told Roddick after his 4th defeat to Federer at Wimbledon in the trophy presentation, that he was certain Roddick would win Wimbledon one day (whilst smiling and nearly laughing). He also said not too long after that Roddick was a Wimbledon champion in his eyes.

D1ck move Rog. D1ck move.

2. MC 2006 their first match, Novak was 19yo at the time and won a set.

He's popular with the ladies.

True, even Sharapova seemed to have a little fling with him a few years ago

I think you nailed it here sir :)

Once again, nobody is questioning Djoko's popularity in regard to Federer or Nadal... But Dimitrov? C'mon ...  Who the hell knows about this guy outside of most hardcore ATP fans and some WTA fans of Maria Sharapova

Maybe Sharapova voted 100,000 times

If you are interested, please read one of my posts above.

How it all has nothing to do with tennis, and it shows, I was at Basel indoors and watched some of Dimitrovs matches, only a few spectators in the audience.

I seriously think Djokovic would be more popular if he signed up with Nike. Imagine him starring in those cool Nike commercials, he would get a more "serious, passionate, professional athlete-image" instead of the jokey, laid back image he seems to have now. What if Federer suddenly wore Erke clothes, dropped his Gilette contract, and started playing with a Kennex racket? It would be weird as hell and he would definitely lose some of his "coolness".

Nothing special here. There are a thousand ways to be come popular. Dimitrov live a more showy and frivolous life than Nole. He dates with Masha, Serena, Eugenie... he attracts paparazzis and rag newspapers than Nole.

The same thing happens in all fields. Beckham is 10 times more famous than Zidane while his talent is 100 times less. Justine Bierber, Robert Pattinson, C.Ronaldo... they are every where.

I do not agree. vs. Alex was 17, against Pospisil more than 20 spectators.

If you go by these stupid polls, then Radwanska is more popular than Sharapova or Williams, since she has won the WTA fan favourite for 3 years in a row...

More successful tennis player doesn't always equate more popular, although most of time it is.

Grigor is better looking than Nole, that's for sure.

You beat me first.

Also Sampras was more accomplished than Agassi, but during the 90s, Agassi was more popular than him. Same with Serena and Sharapova, one is way more accomplished on court but the one is more beautiful thus more popular.

Either you're being sarcastic, or you're being sincere. If you're being sincere, Federer said some nice things to Roddick after he beat him at Wimbledon, and unlike most people on this forum, respects the man for many of the battles he's shared with Roddick.

I mean, if Federer says he believes one player is a Wimbledon champion without the actual trophy, wouldn't that mean he displayed the playing level of a Wimbledon champion when he faced him?

I also don't get how people can defend Djokovic's outrageous actions over the course of his career.

1) He tries way too hard to be liked. Nobody really likes people who try too hard, it just makes the person in question seem desperate and ungenuine.
2) He rips his shirt off in a way which looks like he's mocking his opponent.
3) He has had scuffles with more than one player during his career. (See: Roddick, Federer, ect).

I cannot confirm this either, but I have heard Nadal went on Australian radio saying he believed he could beat Djokovic at the Australian Open in 2012, and from what I remember he wasn't friendly about it either..

Not really. According to NatF you're a troll just because you don't like Roddick's game!
BTW there are many Nadal fans that are far from perfect, yourself included.

There's no one on here that's perfect, but Djokovic fans are delusional across the board and don't even seem serious with half the stuff they post because it's just that preposterous.

Nothing wrong with wanting to be liked, he doesn't rip his shirt off anymore(and only ever did it twice anyway) and nearly all players get into scuffles from time to time. There, that was easy enough for me.

I don't like Roddick's game either, but I appreciate the man as a great champion and a plus for the sport. The number of slams doesn't matter in the end, he is/will be a Hall Of Fame recognized player and his achievements will forever be remembered; along with his many great battles with the titans of the sport (Federer, Nadal and Djokovic).

Same deal with Hewitt and Safin, who are two other players you put down as "weak champions" in favor of weaker players like Moya, Kafelnikov and Rafter..
