Dimitrov more popular than Djokovic

If weeks at number 1 were the only barometer, this would be true.

However, why should we only focus on when Novak began winning majors? Nadal is the best player of the last 6 years, on account of winning 7 majors (more than djokovic) since the beginning of 2010.

Why does Djokovic get to include his peak year and Nadal does not?

Federer was the best player of his era 2003-2009, Nadal is the best player of his era 2008-2014. Djokovic? Nadal is better in his own era!

Hmmm, maybe because of this Chico's post...

Excellent post. The best player indeed! For the last 4 years.

And then this...

Have several seats. He spent half of this year at #2. And had the second best season in 2013. 1 slam a year isn't domination, no matter how much you wish it were so.

An completely fit Nadal is better than a completely fit Nole. That's just a fact of life. Without being sidelined through injury, Nadal would have been #1 most of the time since 2008.

LOL. just LOL.
That is why Novak was 7-0 vs Nadal in 2011/2012 and their H2H since 2011 is:
12-7 for Novak with pretty much half (9) of those being on clay since Nadal was not able to keep up on other surfaces most of the time.

Nadal was #1 in 2010, but starting with 2011 it is all Novak.

Lol at being called a hater because Nadal DID have the best 2013 and I made a factual statement that he spent half this year at #2. He's barely edging Federer this year, and lost the ranking in 2012 as well. It is what it is, those are facts. Maybe you HATE the facts, and the fact that I make you feel rage makes me a hater  If your definition of "domination" is 1 slam a year, than by your lead Mr. Turner :)

By that definition, Nadal has dominated every year since 2005. I guess Djokovic is behind in yet another stat, huh?

My point exactly. I don't recall Novak winning 2 slams in 2013 or winning more slams than Nadal in 2012 or 2014. 2011 was heavenly, but we can just as easily include 2010.

This doesn't help Nole's case I have to admit. He's still got less than 10m followers on FB and twitter and Rafa has 7m on twitter alone plus almost 15m on FB. Nadal is streets ahead of the lot of them with Fed only clocking a total of 17m on both FB and twitter.

So Dull can't even beat a 33 year old wayyyyyyyyy past his prime semi-retired Federer on Fb and Twitter?

Where on earth did you see word domination in this post

Excellent post. The best player indeed! For the last 4 years.

So the best player overall for the last 4 years. Well let's see

Djoko- 120 something weeks at #1, 6 Slams, 2 WTF, 15 masters
Rafa- 50+ weeks at #1, 5 slams, 0 WTF, 9 masters
Fed- 20 something weeks at #1, 1 Slam, 1 WTF, 6 masters

So is Chico's post about Djokovic being the best player overall in this period of time ( last 4 years) has some value or is it complete nonsense as you and Sabratha here like to point out?

Just ignore him. He always sees not what was written, but what he chooses to see. Noting new. Standard behavior.

Thanks nice numbers to confirm the truth, to bad some here do not subscribe to facts and reason.

Has anyone noted that Dimitrov is seen as pretty good looking?

I think that's why his popularity exceeds his accomplishments.

Novak is good looking too imo and many girls I know, but he isn't seen in quite the same way and has rubbed some American fans the wrong way.

and what is the common characteristic between Nole and Lendl?

Both seen as Eastern Euro and a bit unrelatable to a Western crowd and I think are unfairly prejudiced a bit.

Difference being Djoko is not your stereotypical eastern euro bot but has the opposite personality, often being too gregarious for some. His game has been accused of being robotic though.

Djokovic gives off a bad vibe - it's all summed up by the hair cut he chooses and his tennis apparel brand - gives a military vibe. Dork-factor is high in that one. You'd have to have some xanax hand to be around him I bet.

Factor in the fact that Rafa has missed a year in that period through injury. It would be interesting to see how Nole would cope if he had to miss 7 months in a row.

2011 was a watershed for Djokovic only not for men's tennis. Rafa fans could just as well start counting from 2010 but we don't need to because Rafa has excelled since 2005 when Djokovic was still finding his feet and he is only a year younger in age.

The beginning of 2011 was nearly four years ago so yeah, Djokovic has been the best player over the past four years. More Slams, WTFs, Masters, weeks at #1 than anybody else. If not him then who in your opinion lol?

As your life experience and education only extends to social media and Wikipedia, I have to inform you that the majority of the general public is not similarly limited. Numbers on FB and Twitter do not govern the numbers of tennis fans who love tennis for the tennis and give their approval outside the TW hate paradigm.

I agree that you cannot accurately measure popularity based on number of social media followers, as it will be influenced by things like how frequently you use it, which languages you use, whether or not you post pictures of yourself with no top on etc. It's also known that in the music industry, record labels and management find ways to artificially inflate FB likes, as well as YouTube hits etc, to give the impression their artist is more popular, and therefore get more radio/press coverage etc. They are also known to manipulate polls the exact same way.

In music awards, the 'best single' voted for by the public is almost always won by the popular boyband of the day. They are legitimately popular, but their fans are far more likely to (multi) vote than the average person who likes another song just as much.

It's much easier to manipulate a relatively small poll like the ATP one than it is to manipulate Facebook followers, so the fact Dimitrov has polled disproportionately higher than players who have a lot more Facebook and twitter followers, and whose matches are more popular etc.

Either the poll has been deliberately manipulated, or Dimitrov fans are insecure about his status, so are compelled to multi-vote, while fans of genuinely more popular players couldn't give a stuff about a meaningless award.

I just noticed that Grigor is 3rd and Novak 4th in this year ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite competition.

So the guy with only one GS semifinal appearance in his career, globally is more popular, admired and recognizable than the current world number 1, current Wimbledon champion and 7 time GS winner...

How the hell is this even possible

How? I think Chico alone is responsible for knocking Djoko down a notch or two....

Hey, that's not fair. Those incidences were in 2008 & 2010. And DjokovicTwothousandeleven only started watching tennis in twothousandeleven. Duh!

Anything before twothousandeleven doesn't count, and you should know that babe. ;)

I don't get why so many posters on here think I only started watching tennis in 2011. What is it about my posts that give this impression when I started watching it 18 years earlier? I need someone to help me out here because I can't for the life of me get my head around it.:confused:

Probably because of your username. :) You are a pretty mature poster though, nothing about your posts themselves suggests that you lack knowledge about tennis or are very young. You are in your 30's, right?

Do you believe that Dimitrov is more popular than Nole?

I like where you're going with this post, and agree at least in the sense that you really SHOULDN'T care what people think or how popular your player is. Way too many posters here care far too deeply about these guys.

The end justifies the means. As long as Djokovic wins, I don't care how he does it.

Yep, I'm 33 but some posters on here have the impression I'm only 13! Maybe you're right regarding my username but I only chose that because of how incredible Djokovic was that year. Had I known at the time that it would lead many to believe that was when I started watching tennis I might've thought twice about it! :|

I always assumed you were born in 2011 and were some sort of advanced baby genius. Then I would see some of your pervy comments and assumed you were also physically aging as rapidly as your mind was. The only logical explanation was that you were an alien starchild. I must say, this is kind of a letdown. Oh well.

Even Djokovic has moved on from 2011, why can't his fans?

Who actually votes in these things? I have never voted in one, and I would say that I am definitely a hardcore tennis fan.

I've been a tennis fan for several years and never bothered to vote for such online polls. I'm not a big fan of Djokovic but even I know that he's a lot more popular than Dimitrov. just look at how many fans/followers Dimitrov has on Facebook and Twitter compare that with that of Djokovic. The Serb wins.

I think you've made your point, Clayqueen. No need to post countless photos of Djokovic. The last one is from a commercial. If anyone posts similar photos of Nadal from a commercial, then you'll go to all lengths to defend him.

Anyways, regardless of these shirt tearing celebrations, I think Djokovic is way more popular than Dimitrov.

It's just that these polls are ridiculous. It's a well known fact that the Federer fan brigade literally launches a campaign every year, to vote for him in enormous numbers. A poster here named "tennissportsrog" IIRC, confessed some time last year, that he had a dozen email accounts just to vote for Federer. And he voted multiple times with each account everyday. Now how can anyone outdo that.

The reason Dimi has got these many votes (not all votes, but still the majority) is just because of the Fed fan base voting for him due to him being "Baby Fed".

Djokovic is way more popular than Dimitrov, all around the world.
