Then defend Djokovic. I've already made the point that I believe Djoko is more popular than Dimi.
 
First of all Fed and then Nadal take the vast majority of the vote meaning the margins are small 3rd onwards ie neither Dimi or Nole are very popular.

Also I doubt China, Nole's biggest fanbase, can vote.
Grigor probably gets lots of votes from teenage girls who would be very devoted. We have seen the effect good looks have on this forum. Just look at the middle aged Nadal fangirls on this forum. Now imagine teen girls considering Grigor is better looking than Nadal.

Anyone Grigor just has 'it'. Guys want to he him, girls want to be with him.
 
Those who think Dimitrov is more popular than Djokovic should watch his matches. I don't see a lot of people turn up to watch Dimitrov matches unless he's playing someone more famous than him.

English is my fourth language. Anyway the way you say it: "hotdogging every match easily gains fans" makes it sounds as if it can be made in every match therefore you made it sounds easy. It does not happen in every match and it is not just the magic shots that gain fans, it is also their charisma and overall attitude.

Listen, there is no best player in the world. However you say a player is the best, there is always something missing in their resume and even in their technical ability. No player is perfect, no player is better than the other.

The OP based the thread on the Atp fan favourite vote. But thats not a measure of actual popularity or who's more known around the world. When most non- watching tennis people think of tennis they are more likely to think of fedalovic.

What is so wow about it? Novak has not been able to achieve a career grand slam. How can he be the best if he can not win a clay Grand Slam Title? How can he be the best if he got beaten in a final of ATP 1000 tournament recently by the same guy who beat him in FO semifinal?

Ranking system is just numbers, just points. It does not show your quality. You can be number 1 or 2 or 3 but you can still be beaten by teenagers ranked outside 100.

If the best tennis player exists, he should never be beaten by anybody and win all matches out there. It simply does not exist. There is no best player in the world.

Call it a logical fallacy, Professor Lin, but look in the mirror and say your signature out loud 100 times and tell me if it is even funny.

Wow indeed. Djokovic not being able to achieve the career Slam has nothing to do with him not being the best player in the world now. All it means is that it's a major trophy he's yet to win. Djokovic is the best player as of this moment, and has been so for the majority of the time since 2011. Look at the rankings. Those tell you who the "best" player is at any given time.

There is no room for debate or discussion on this.
It is just how it is, period.

Thank you for acknowledging my academic credentials. I have a Ph.D in tennis analysis from Tennis Warehouse University. Your final paper that states that "There is no best player in the world" was a major failure and earned you a grade of 'F' in the class, so you will have to retake "Tennis Appreciation" in the Winter Quarter. The ranking only shows who has accumulated the most points over 52 weeks it is not a measure of who is the best player. Injury time out, when a player does not earn points, is not taken into account. For instance Delpo is now ranked 138 simply because he hasn't played for months.

Djoko fans believe the propaganda by commies who consistently bleat on about how Novak has no weaknesses. They should try and be realistic and not believe that tennis started in 2011.
 
I doubt Novak Djokovic would trade his career for Grigor Dimitrov's career for the sake of winning a popularity contest.

Some of the top ranked apparel sponsored men have some "Queer eye for the straight guy" going on - it's just a result of having to wear the matching outfits. Something should be done about that. Federer has worn pink before - can't believe that was his idea, at least I hope. Murray went through some phase where he was wearing gold. Never seen the trend in Stan and many of the others.

During the US hardcourt swing Djokovic sure didn't look like the best player in the world... Personally I'd say results at the big tournaments (ie Slams and to a lesser degree Masters) determines who's the best player in the world at a specific time. The #1 ranking just shows who's had the most consistent form over the past 52 weeks. Let's say Federer had gotten back #1 this Fall, would you say he's the best in the world? I wouldn't.

But regardless, I agree with you that the poster you responded to has a weird perception. Just because no player is perfectly dominant doesn't mean that X player can't be better than Y player.

I would not say Federer would be the best in the world because he won't win WTF to reclaim the YE #1. That spot belongs to Novak Djokovic, who has been the true best player in the world in 2014.

That's my opinion too. The goofy retirements and excuses afterwards. The bad behavior of his parents. And I'd add that getting married and having a baby probably lost him some of the women's vote.

If Federer wins the WTF and ends the year at No. 1, he would technically be the best player in the world but definitely not the best player of the year. That accolade would first go to Djokovic, then Nadal, and then Federer.
