Dimitrov: new racquet new results.

So Dimitrov has been cleaning up lately.
It is the new 97s that has changed his fortunes. The last iteration of the 97s had a higher swingweight. Is this what made th difference. ?
And does anyone know for sure if he is using the 97s for real. Is it in stock form like fed and his 97a ??
Is it really a 97?
Please anyone who has this info chime in. Thanks, Dan

They are both 18x17. That's got to count for something, right? ;-)

Lol. Yeah it's a shame.
Deep down I was hoping that he was using the updated retail 97S. But it looks like he went back to his old 93. From what everyone is saying on here. Shame.

He was using the updated 97S, from 2015 Grass court season to 2016 Clay court season, i believe. It was during 2016 Wimbledon/Grass court season is when he switched back to the 93S. Hes been getting some wins since then.

Damn that's pretty small..I wonder how people play with these small head sized rackets, I can't play with anything less than 98 head size. My younger brother (13 years old) played with a Dunlop racket which was 90 square inches for 2 years he won a lot of matches with it I was surprised

Thank this man...he got out of the young GOAT's path lol

He used a frame with a shared hole today espn.com/tennis so it is not the retail mold.

Yeah. Seems like everyone here agrees he's back to his 93. Shame because with his new found game I would love to know what he is really using. Seems like the retail 97S is the recipe that actually ruined his game
I was hoping he was using the new version. Seems like you can't win. Would have been nice for Wilson to issue his tre racquet out.

I think the PS97S is a great frame. However, for the kind of magician's game Grigor likes to meddle with, I def. can understand how the PS93S is a better fit, based on the manoeuvrability of the PS95(/S). I loved everything about that frame except the low power. But with a smaller head size, a tighter pattern, and some serious SW ... Maybe it's the frame Fed should have turned to as well, I dunno?

No. Fed is in love with his stick. And it shows.
He's just getting old.
Yeah. I can't get good whip out of the 97S

I don't know if there is any validity to it, but if I remember right the custom 93 was developed for, but didn't make the cut for Fed. I've seen that about any number of other 93-98 wilson frames so who knows.

I have an old Wilson Pro Avenger 93 (the white one) and it's got the box beam thing going on. These go cheap on the bay. Nice flexy racquet.

I think it is a Wilson ROK mold re-drilled. but we will likely never know. The spec are as follows, except my doubles partners frames were all 11.2 strung
93 sq. in. / 600 sq. cm.
Length:
27 in. / 68.6 cm.
Strung weight:
11.8 oz. / 335 gr.
Balance:
5pts Head Light
Swing weight:
323
Stiffness:
60
Beam width:
19.5mm Straight Beam
Composition:
90% Graphite / 10% Hyper

It may have evolved out of the same concepts as the ROK but the mold is unique, it's geometry looks to be more similar to a exploration based on a six.one 90.

The mm on his racquet is 19mm instead of 19.5. Yeah, to me the closest thing to his racquet is the ROK 93 just with a box beam and 18x17 string pattern with a higher SW.

I don't quite follow, or rather I guess it depends on what you are seeking to be close. The ROK has a different beam geometry, head shape, pws shape, and I'm not sure what his beam thickness is but I would guess 17-18mm.

To me 4 square inches of hitting face matters less than all those, thats less than a quarter the surface of a US dollar bill.

I can confirm that. I have one of Grig's BLX Tour 93 (90's PJ, black/red/gold, complete with Fed signature) - it's very, very similar to the 90, just a tad bigger. The frame has nothing much in common with the ROK.
The ROK has more similarities with the PS Tour 95, not the 90. I can post pics if anybody is interested

To me the ROK has more similarities to the Blade 93. I'm guessing after the PS ROK went out, Wilson replace it with the nBlade line.

That racket looks a lot bigger than 93 sq inches. is it really 93 head size or just a name ? and higher swing weight makes sense. Pros need that heavier ball that penetrates into the court. Too bad, this racket isn't available for public purchase.

If you don't have a digital caliper you can compare the beam width to coins.

Dime 17.5mm
Penny 19.05mm
Nickle 21.21mm

I'm guessing Wilson was caught between a rock and a hard place on this one.
They already spent millions and years branding Dimitrov to the 97S.
But hopefully they can make a change soon enough and bring out the real Dimitrov 93.

why would you buy a 93 sq inch racket ?? it is way too small. most amateurs even 4.5 guys need minimum 95 sq inch size.

It's the string pattern that makes it look bigger than what it is truly. The 18x17 has a pretty generous sweetspot. I like that pattern as much as the 16x20. (Preferably that one though)
