Dimitrov new racquet?

That looks like it might be a Hyper Pro Staff 6.0 95, 18x17 pattern, 8 main throat grommets. Yet, the PWS is more pronounced than the HPS6.0
What do you guys think?

Edit: The head looks more like his 93S, but the throat shape is different

Wasn’t expecting him to pull through against Cilic. So.... what’s the consensus? Some kind of 6.1 95 highly personalised for Grigor’s preferences (esp. strong pattern)?

Interesting little tidbit from the German commentary of his ongoing match against Stan: apparently Stan said that Grigor is crazily good in practice recently, occasionally running him over in practice sets, but that his level is notably lower in actual matches.

Matthias feat. Boris :D

Definitely not. The beam is too thick for the 93 to begin with.

The racquet face looks like it is 93 inches. Look at that racquet face compared to Federer’s. No way the current Dimitrov frame is 97. He tried Federer’s frame for a bit with lead at 3 and 9. Didn’t work out so well with the 97 inch frame.

Looking at that racquet face compared to his hand it doesn’t look 97. Will be very surprised if he is playing 97. If you look at some pics from Aug 18’ where he is practicing with the black/green PS97 you can see how much larger that racquet face looks.

If you're talking about the gold he was using the rf97/ps97 prostock. I feel it looks like a 95 but it could just be his old 97

The end of the head guard he is using in Paris is a narrow V shape like the retail PS97.

The 93 had a rather blunt end and a 6.1 95 has a U shaped end. This would seem to indicate some variant of the 97 which he has had several non-retail over the years.

I’m thinking that although the 93 he used before had different frame characteristics that still looks like a 93inch racquet face. I could be wrong but the racquet face of that frame looks much smaller in his hand than when he tried the 97in frames.

Just glad the guy is playing better tennis. When Federer is gone Dimitrov will be the only one out there with that style of play to watch.

Yeah, just sharing the evidence I see. Though it is just a piece of plastic it tends to correlate.

Have learned a great deal about Wilson racquets from you guys. Have been on a contract with them since I was 12years old and you guys know more about these frames than anyone I have seen. Thanks for the killer info. Very cool.

Could be a new 93 with new grommets as well. Im good at finding pictures with details and trying to correlate those. Aside from that I’m only good for passing on what I’ve read in other threads here. I guess what I’m saying is I don’t speak with authority but provide supporting evidence and hope it helps.

So friggin hard to pin point his racquet. Seems every time I sit to watch his match, he has a different racquet. I know he is mocked here a lot on TTW but I like him and the way he plays. Played three close TBs vs Wawrinka. Seems issues are more mental, for sure.

I wonder why Dimitrov is called the baby fed. Is it because his racquet is smaller than Feds or his results are less?

I don't think so, it is 97 for sure.

I believe that he's playing with his first batch of 97 frames from when he first started to use it during the laver cup period. Only a handful of frames had the bulgarian coat of arms graphics, those being the gold and black one and then this.

Interesting he's going with the 97, maybe he wants abit more juice while on the clay. he switched back to his red and black 93 then eventually he got a set of black and white 93s which he used at the start if i recall properly. Eitherway his match vs stan was pretty close. Dimitrov is one of my favourite players from when I started really getting into tennis. Really hope results find their way for him

Many similar technical elements in his shots (straight arm forehand, one-handed backhand, platform serve) AND sponsored by Wilson. Can you find another ATP player with all those characteristics?

Similar strokes/playstyle.

Nickname from many years ago when Dimitrov was younger (baby).

Unfortunately mentality of a baby Fed as well and baby version of Feds stick.

I wonder if he and Thiem can get better results in those tight situations (where they
just miss the target by a few mm by making the play happen which is quite often)
by using 95 sq inch versions of their preferred sticks like fellow OHBH tour buddies
Wawa, Shapo, Kohls, Evans do with great success considering their current abilities.

Either way if only these 2 guys that train harder than mosts had the mentality
of an Olivier Rochus they would slay the top 3 more often.
eg. Olivier Rochus competed like D. Schwartzman but with a single BH and less percentage
flatter trajectory off the FH which is amazing for his height to have done so well in this pusher era.

ORoch had the most amazing match against albeit a 16 yo Nadal in his home town of Mallorca
on clay 6-2 6-2 playing that flat take it early style that Davydenko was a master of yet amazingly
Rocky served the only ace and Nadal couldnt return most of the 5 foot 5 in opponent serves!

At this point he might as well stop changing his racquet all the time and just use Federer’s set up. His game is modeled identical to Federer except for the serve.
I haven’t watched him that recently, but even his serve last time i saw him was far more like Federer, the ball toss was shorter and less lag between the arms.

Here’s his new serve motion, not as fluid as Federer but much more similar.

Yep, he reduced the lag a little while back, but as you said he’s now reduced the distance his left arm goes down as well as lowering the eventual height of the ball toss further - this was reduced somewhat post lag reduction as well. Agree that the ball toss does look more Federeresque also, less palm up, more ice cream cone.

He definitely had a hitch. Too much lag time as you mentioned. Simplified the motion for sure and smoothed it out.

I guess his problem in simple terms may always be that he can break serve about as often as Federer, but he can't serve like/hold serve as often as Federer; a bit like Henman vis-à-vis Edberg perhaps?

I know it’s not the devoted discussion but I cannot find the information anywhere on the forum: does somebody know what kind of headbands is Dimitrov wearing since last year? They are not the Tennis Headbands as worn by the other players and sold by Nike. The ones form Dimitrov are not that wide/large, look more narrow/slimmer. Many thanks in advance.
