Has anyone used DirectTV Now before for Tennis Channel? How's the quality? Does it stutter, buffer a lot? Does the ball look real like cable? For example, if i watch tennis videos on Youtube, in some of the videos, even in full HD, the ball has weird shape and the frame rate is not the best. I wanna know if DIrectTV Now has the same problem or they're as smooth as cable.

No. It is a perfect picture like that of cable boxes but the resolution is higher at 1080p. You will be happy with picture quality if you have cable or satellite. There is no compression of the signal!

I've had directv for several years now. Last December my wife and I got a 65" 4k curved samsung and tennis looks amazing on it.

I got in at the promo price ($35/mo for the Go Big package, which includes the Tennis Channel in that package + free HBO that DTVN offered as well... plus, got a free Apple TV 4 out of it as well) and am grandfathered in at that price. Picture quality is excellent. 60fps. Running through both an Apple TV 4 and Fire TV 4k box. Actually, the streaming quality from DTVN looks even better than cable when I had cable, although that's probably because my cable sucked. I regret not cutting cable earlier. Tennis Channel being on DTVN is the main reason why I switched to it from Playstation Vue (which is also a great service), and DTVN is the only streaming service right that carries the Tennis Channel. Vue, Sling, the new Youtube TV, the new Hulu TV service, etc. do not have the Tennis Channel. The streams with DTVN have overall been very stable. Every now and then you will get some brief buffering, but it's pretty minimal. And the buffering is only for a couple seconds before it picks up right where it left off. When DTVN first launched, it was quite a bit more problematic. The major downside now with DTVN is the cloud based DVR is still in the works, and on-demand service is a bit lacking. That's where Vue has the competition beat. But again, having Tennis Channel trumps everything.

I've had them since Day 1... Introductory pricing and free Apple TV 4 for 3 month sign up. Major, major technical glitches for several months but in the last couple of months, they've settled down. Tennis channel is one of those that had major issues early but these days it's working great. Ondemand content and DVR features still leave a lot to be desired. But the introductory pricing (which I have for as long as I have the service) was hard to pass up.

keep in mind that they do not have CBS and the service only works on Apple TV 4 and Fire TV/TV stick settop boxes and via Chromecast. No Roku or Android TV native apps yet.

There's most definitely compression. I have a pretty darned fast Fios internet connection and I see compression artifacts once in a while. Picture quality is very good these days though... similar to the FIOS TV I had but more prone to the said artifacts.

Directv Now is a different, IPTV service from AT&T. Not the satellite service.

Great! Thanks for all the input guys! I'm cutting cord next month for sure. I already paid for this month so have to endure it lol

Hm so I'm on 7 days trial for Directv Now. Is it just me or the quality seems to be a little less than that of Time Warner Cable (Spectrum)? Like I watch tennis channel side by side and I can tell a subtle different in quality. I can't tell the difference of pictures of the players, but it is definitely harder to see the ball (especially on clay court) on Directv Now. I have the extreme internet (300 mbps) from Spectrum, so it's not my internet problem for sure.

Quality should be much better then "any cable" reception since it not a compress signal! Should be 1080p not the 720p found in cable resolution unless it a special event like Super Bowl!

I wish that's the case for me Harry. I bought the Amazon Fire TV and tested it out. There's no way it's 1080p. It's more like 720p. When the match is over and commercial is on though, it's crystal clear. Pretty weird experience. Mb I'll try forcing 1080p on the Fire TV to see. Right now it's at auto resolution, and can go up to 4k. When I test using youtube, it loaded 4k contents in matter of seconds. Beautiful perfect picture. But the tennis channel is a bit disappointing...

Harry, May I ask, are you using Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV? Did you tweak your set up to make it 1080p? I seriously doubt it is Full HD for me, it's more like 720p.

I don't have Amazon Fire but use it with Apple TV. It have been using the Roku box but no DirectTVNow app yet for it! Maybe you need to wait for Direct TV Now engineers to improve the app for higher quality pictures. I would just pay for a month $35 and see if during that time it get better and if not they drop it!

No tweaking involve! I remember that when I was a charter member of both Sling TV and Direct TV Now, they both has to get up to speed n their app quality but it was not long before maybe two-three week and it was and is stable and HD+ resolution since I have a 4K TV.
