Disastrous loss for poor Osaka

No. Everyone knows that the mother takes the brunt. Every time a WTA player returns to the tour after having a baby, the talk is all about how much toll having a baby has had on their fitness and how they would juggle having a child with being on tour. This doesn't happen to the men. No one mentions how much impact having a baby would have on Nadal, Medvedev, or Monfils being on tour. No one knew Medvedev was expecting a baby until the baby was born. A WTA player would have had to take time off long before the baby was born.
No one is disputing that it's harder on mothers than fathers. Much, much harder. Most careers don't survive it.

The dispute is only coming from you saying there's no impact to a father. There are definitely athletes who become fathers that suddenly aren't dedicating 100% of their time to the sport anymore. They may not want to squeeze in that 3rd practice session of the day. Their sleep gets interrupted. Being on the road can take a mental toll because they don't want to be away from their family and now their head is elsewhere instead of on the court.

In my opinion, it definitely played a role in Sampras not returning to tennis in 2003.

Serves her right for having a baby.
They suck, in more ways than one.

I hardly can decide which of those 2 I dislike more. Probably Osaka... Now, I have to cheer for the next player to take Garcia out.

Caro did play very very well, served huge. Caro should have been no. 1 as Andy Murray told us, with a win like this, maybe she still can be. Agree, Osaka should take the positives, just keep grinding, she still has greatness left in her. Watch some of those old tapes of her GS wins and bring back that spirit.

So let understand. It's definitely the baby.
And definitely not because being a premier athlete is hard for 37-year-olds who've had injury plagued careers.
Let's say that just because we got used to seeing a few players juggle both things quite comfortably doesn't mean everyone can do it to the same level of success.
I believe Nadal's "fire" was very much fuelled by his status as someone who's married to the sport, so to speak. And that, perhaps unconsciously, his intensity on the court is affected. But I could be wrong.

It's a tough ask for a first round slam match, she'll have to work her way in a bit, get her ranking up the next few months so she doesn't have to face such highly ranked players first up and build up a bit of momentum

This shows Osaka was devastated by this loss. She expected much more. She may be realizing deep down, she may be done as an elite and the game may have passed her by. And she no longer has the right mindset and mental fortitude and freedom to fight her way back to the top. To cry like this is a sign of weakness and unhappiness.
Some people just see what they want to see.

This was a devastating loss for her confidence, for Nike's new outfits for her, and also the book. Hopefully she can figure it out and play her best tennis in the future but that looks unlikely right now.

Osaka is ranked 831 and has played 3 matches in the last 16 months. She played the 16th seed and a former top 4 player in Garcia who has played 84 matches in the last 16 months. Sure, Osaka thought she had a chance to win, but she could only be devastated if she thought she was the overwhelming favorite to do so. Absolutely nobody thought that and neither did Osaka.

Serena's body was not suited for long term tennis success and dominance yet somehow she made it happen. Imagine if her body was more streamlined and weight suited for tennis? She may still be dominating - and dominating for years to come. I still find it miraculous that she lasted as long as she did, with all that hard court mileage and pounding on those knee and ankle joints.

Is Osaka still overweight? She could stand to lose at least 10 pounds.

The crying again shows she is very very sensitive and bordering on basketcase. Graf, Seles, Evert, Maria, Henin, Hingis never cried.

I know Osaka sabotaged herself with all that protest about not wanting to talk to the media but I think women have it rough because having a baby takes a toll on their career. Men have children and they just carry on seamlessly.
There is a very good reason for that-LOL!

I mean, I wasn’t expecting Garcia to play this well. Especially the serve. I only saw her play one match this year before AusOpen and that was against Norway in the United Cup and she was a mess on court.

6-4 7-6. That’s a close match in WTA tennis.
Garcia probably played her best tennis in this Osaka match. Unfortunately, for her, Garcia does not play her best tennis very often.

Osaka cries easily. Some people cry a lot more easily than others. I know people who never cry and I know people who cry at everything. Doesn't mean the former are better people than the latter and that doesn't mean Osaka is personally devastated.

And it doesn't mean those others don't cry privately.
In fact it takes a stronger person to cry publicly and not give a damn what others think.

Federer cried a lot early in his career, first DC wins, first Masters, first Wimbledon... he certainly wasn't mentally weak. Maybe you're right, and Osaka will prove to be more Federer like and she will regain the winning touch.

Rafa is not out because he had a baby, and you know it.
This is a good excuse to post baby Rafa in Australia pic. :)

She wasn't a GOAT and can come back like the big 3 or as well as Serena or Venus did after a break. I expect her to be back in a groove by IW unless she plays Fernandez.
