Disgraceful performance by David Ferrer

I have a feeling he will SERIOUSLY consider retirement after such an embarrassing loss. To lose to such an inferior player is an insult to his country and the game of tennis. Not only did he lose, he got broken AT LOVE to end the match.

Well it wasn't a disgrace, i mean he had never beaten Monfils before, he lost in 4 sets at RG back in 2008, but yer that last game was rather terrible but i have to admit Monfils played very well, really controlled which is very unusual for him, even though he did throw away a couple of mp's before that last game.

Dont try to tone it down...It was an insult to Spain, Europe, Earth and the whole solar system.

Who cares Ferrer was under pressure the whole 5th set...he was never up....Monfils had several chances and convert his last one! Ferrer last service game though was real bad...I agree because he went for shots he shouldn't have played~

To me Ferrer losing to le Monf is a semi-surprise.

Sure, Ferru was never amazing in RG but I thought he would lose a set at most.

He knows he would had no chance versus Federer anyway. Will be fun to see always shameful Paris crowd go against Federer next.

That's the beauty of players like Monfils, they don't buckle to home pressure.
Monfils is now the only French man left, and good on him. I hope he uses this energy from the crowd to beat Federer. I don't have high expectations though.

Ferrer saved, what, 4 or 5 match points? Monfils was simply at another level today, but Ferrer didn't once give up. He's done more with the talent he's been given than just about anybody. That was the most entertaining match of the FO so far.

That last game was a gift to Monfils who I bet couldn't believe his luck. After the previous 20 mins where Ferrer had played some seriously classy tennis for the most part that last service game was just a clanger.

Dude, the guy has more balls than >99% of the posters here. The guy just leaves it out there on the court.

Has to hurt though that he lost all of his last 4 or so (?) five setters.

I was surprised. Ferrer had a pretty good clay court season coming in to RG. But he does pretty much what he's expected to, nothing more, nothing less. Beating Nadal at the AO might be the highlight of his career.

Ferrer is a great player. Why would he retire? Anyhow, Monfils is a better athlete and beat Ferrer in the scrambling battle.

I would think beating Nadal at the U.S. Open from a set down.

Does Ferrer have like one of the worst 5-setters records or something?

It seems to me that he always lost in a 5 sets match in most of the slams. (against Nishikori in US Open? Baghdatis in Australian Open?)
