Disproportion of Federer/Nadal Matches on Clay

For their entire careers, Federer and Nadal have combined to play 56.69% of their matches on hard court, 28.91% of their matches on clay courts, 10.44% of their matches on grass courts, and 3.96% of their matches on carpet.

That being said, it does seem their rivalry is disproportionate when 45.45% of their head to head matches have been on hard court, 45.45% of their matches on clay courts, and 9.68% of their matches on grass courts.

It's not just clay

For their entire careers, Federer and Nadal have combined to play 56.69% of their matches on hard court, 28.91% of their matches on clay courts, 10.44% of their matches on grass courts, and 3.96% of their matches on carpet.

It is not just clay it is also slow hard.

The majority of their matches have been on clay AND slow hard. The latter surface favours Nadal as well. Miami, Indian Wells and the AO have much more in common with clay court play than traditional medium-fast hard court.

As far as I am concerned they are 2 all on surfaces/conditions

1/ Clay - Nadal (no shame on Federer here as Nadal is the greatest of all time on clay)

2/ Outdoor Hard (of which the huge majority of tournaments are on slow hard like the AO, Miami and Indian Wells) - Nadal

3/ Indoor - Federer

4/ Grass - Federer

Now if Nadal and Federer played 100 more matches on Clay and won 90 - it would tell us nothing new at all. We already know that Nadal is superior on clay to Federer (actually superior to everybody - so again, no shame on Federer).

Hence, H2H should never be talked about without reference to surface/conditions.

2 all at the moment!
