Djoker loss but got the love he wanted

He finally got the love and admiration from the crowd.

Watching him at the end get all emotional and still hold his head up high and be a gracious loser.

Very proud of Djoker and feel slightly bad for him. Earned a lot of respect and love from people that disliked him today.

It's not always easy to play with crowd on your back. Higher expectations, more pressure. Of course, the ocassion by itself gave Novak enormous pressure, because of the big weight he had on his back going for the Grand Slam.

Still, I think he would have more chances with crowd going against him, again for the 1000th time in his career.

Honestly it's smoke and mirrors what happened today with the crowd. Stadium is absolutely packed with serbians and Djokovic fans in the upper bowl and high society and celebrities in the lower tank. The guys who booed him vs Rune aka the real crowd were not in the building.

Of course. But for Djoker it has to feel genuinely amazing.

LOL. They wanted three more sets of tennis. It's what the crowd does pretty much every match.

This obsession with being loved by the crowd is a little creepy, Djokovic fans.

it doesn't matter if it clearly meant that much for him. plus as far as I know they have been on his side since the beginning of the match and he was the favorite.

I skimmed through the match thread yesterday. There were a lot of references to the crowd seeming to be pro-Djoko from about the start of the second set.

It seems like things went too far in the third set and I've seen Djoko fans condemning this.

If only Novak listened to Drake:

“Don’t act like you’re happy for me now, don’t act like you wasn’t praying for catastrophic collapses, catalog is immaculate”.

Man, I don’t think there was any way he win this match if he was as exhausted as appeared, but imagine he won and had this mindset. It would’ve been legendary.

They were in his support right from the get go. I’ve never heard a louder roar from the crowd when his name was announced

Anyhow, Medvedev plays better when the crowd is against him ;)

Because the audience was desperate to witness history of the CYGS and take 400 selfies to upload on Insta to brag, "look where I am!" New Yorkers didn't suddenly fall in love with Novak, they were rooting for Rune wildly back in the first round. Next year when he's not going for the CYGS, New Yorkers will be back booing him. But it was touching to see him finally getting the type of cheers Roger and Rafa have been hearing their entire careers.

Yea majority were on his side from the very first ball struck. It did intensify though once Medvedev was running away with it, no one expected Djoko to go down so easily.

Wich makes it all more sad it had to end this way. He definitely deserved to enjoy it way more than he did, woulda been epic to experience his way towards a comeback.
