Strange title in that article, it is possible to play both. Title makes it look like you have to choose between them.

That actually sounds funny, because Puerta means Door in Spanish.

didn't Rafa say that he will skip USO as well?
what's the probability to have a GS without Big 3? who will fold first, Rafa or Novak?
Nah, Rafa said if the US Open was played right now (June) he'd skip it.
He hasn't made a decision on whether he'll play the US Open in August.
And with no more Federer/Djokovic, surely the US Open will become worthwhile for Rafa to play....
Frankly, I think whoever plays the US Open will have an advantage at the French Open, because the US Open will shake off the rust and build some form.
Just playing Rome before Roland Garros won't necessarily get you into form.

The thugtesters terrorizing New York has made the US Open look unlikely, whereas the virus is no longer a hurdle, as the lockdown is no longer.
If the thugtesters go back to their hell holes I think the US Open will be appealing again to players.

No one seems to realize this. The dude is not skipping a slam. He acts tough and "righteous" but when it comes down to it, he will fall in line. It is starting to sound like they all know it is not happening anyways.
LMAO this. The minute they announce that it’s off then Novak will just say “I told u so”, but if they actually go through with it do people really think homeboy is skipping a slam when Federer is already out, giving Nadal a literal beeline to victory. Unless Thiem or Medvedev miraculously figure out how to win a slam until then it’s literally going to be Djokovic-Nadal if the tournaments played.

All the high profile players seem to be very circumspect about the majors at the moment, and for very good reason. Its no good committing to anything when there is still complete uncertainty. What do people want from these guys?

There is no way guys like Nadal or Djokovic are going to want to be playing if New York is still hurting in September. It is a terrible look for the game and they will not want to play in that type of circumstance.

Everyone is hoping things turn, because that's the only way it will feel right to hold the events. The positive thing is that if things do turn, it looks like everyone is on board to make it happen (the broadcasters have made it known that they are as desperate for it to happen as the national tennis federations are).

They have got plenty of time to make a decision, and until then there are more important issues, and the players are acknowledging that.

Everyone hopes the event goes ahead, and that Novak plays. It has been a long time since a player has won the grand slam, and Novak would be going for something almost as exceptional with his quest for an undefeated season and winning the three majors of 2020.

If Rafa were to win US Open and RG, it would be even more of a sensation, so there is a lot to look forward to, but only if things can turn around so the events can go ahead.

If Fed had his surgery weeks ago, I'm not sure it says anything about the USO. My guess is it's still all up in the air, but if it's scheduled, Nadal and Djoker will be there.

That's what might make them both play in the end (assuming the tournament happens) - they won't want to cancel their participation first, because they know the other one will likely stay in and vulture another slam.

Just like he was going to skip the 2018 grass season? Lol. Nadal is the only player who actually skips tournaments when he says he will skip them. Well, Federer also does sometimes, but only in the last few years. Djokovic only talks, but then he plays everything.

i will just be watching all the fraudster reactions on the board and smiling endlessly........come on rafa, lets end the race this year, vamos........

The race doesn't end as long as Djokovic is playing. It isn't the punch that you see coming that knocks you down, it's the punch that you don't see coming.

As Nole Fan, 21-17 from 19-17 could be a KO punch. With another Roland Garros in few months.

I am an Eagles fan(Unusual in Italy) as well, so I appreciate it.
But I prefer standing 19-19 after 2020 :D !

Well of course, just saying it is crazy to think Rafa somehow ends the race by overtaking Federer this year, when there is a guy who wants it just as bad on their tail, and who is relatively more younger tennis wise than Nadal.

Djokovic will not actually skip the tournament.

This. If this story is even true at all then it's because he and his team are trying to scare them into him allowing his entire team and egg chamber and he knows that the French open will allow basically anything to ensure they make money. Why can't Djokovic cope with only 1 member of his team? Could there be a reason? Christ if everyone else has to put up with that then he can too and if he's still as good as he thinks then he should have no trouble.

Nole would really want to win that second RG title to differentiate himself from Roger.

Rambo is better than Rocky, I always found Rocky too soft outside the ring.
Even inside the ring Rocky lost confidence at times, whereas Rambo is the toughest character in world history.

Rambo is pessimistic, Rocky is optimistic. They view the world very differently, very different mental approach. Rambo is built for war, so he is always plugged in, Rocky isn't like that.

I agree, Rocky is unreliable.

Rocky has heart though, and has taken on challenges far greater than him, Apollo and Drago come to mind. His determination is his greatest asset when he actually zones in, Rambo never zones out, but that can also be self-destructive when you are wired up all the time. That takes a mental toll, plus he was suffering from PTSD.
