Djoker still did get special treatment regardless

I mean, the entire "exemption" process was dreamed up and built out specifically for him, because everyone knew he was unvaccinated. If Novak was vaccinated, there is not a world in which TA would have done any of this for, say, an unseeded Czech woman. So, yes, he got special treatment.

Why did Djokovic get a medical exemption?

Bear in mind, 10 December was Tennis Australia's "Covid in the last 6 months" deadline, and that the Australian government said that wasn't a valid reason anyway.

Why is the vaccine even mandated when everyone is spreading it and catching it regardless of vax status?

Novak is not a risk to our country or healthcare system, and neither are other healthy unvaccinated people.

What’s happening is completely nonsensical.

The bottom line is that Djokovic knew for months that he had to be fully vaccinated to play at the 2022 Australian Open.

The Australian and Victorian Governments’ rules are stupid and not based on science. Novak will have minimal trouble playing the other slams.

He's already welcomed to play RG by the French Minister of Sports even without being vaccinated. He'd however have to follow different (tougher) rules than those vaccinated. Probably like a 10-12 day quarantine.

He'll probably have bother with the US Open too, seeing as it's in New York state. And being deported from a country like Australia would likely bring other potential visa issues.

The work mandates in the US are set to be shot down by the supreme court

Novak will be fine

Arbitrary would be like saying some time before the AO starts, since that’s not a specific date. The dude missed the specific date of December 10th by a week.

You have to love the casual way in which missing a legal deadline by a week is just liquidated with 'who cares?' and in the meantime, such posters argue about the smallest of details when it suits them.

The United States requires proof of vaccination for foreigners to enter the country. So, the very public hullabaloo about his vaccination status may draw attention from US officials.

This is not the same situation at all. The Supreme Court has said nothing (as no challenges have been filed) regarding vaccination requirements for foreign national entering the country. And they likely wouldn't touch it, as the courts give wide latitude to the executive branch to determine and enforce border policy. This wouldn't even be anything approaching a question that would need the SC's intervention.

Are there any exemptions allowed?

Categories of noncitizen nonimmigrants that meet the criteria for an exception under the Proclamation and CDC’s Order include:

  • Persons on diplomatic or official foreign government travel
  • Children under 18 years of age
  • Persons with documented medical contraindications to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine
  • Participants in certain COVID-19 vaccine trials
  • Persons issued a humanitarian or emergency exception
  • Persons with valid visas [excluding B-1 (business) or B-2 (tourism) visas] who are citizens of a foreign country with limited COVID-19 vaccine availability
  • Members of the U.S. Armed Forces or their spouses or children (under 18 years of age)
  • Sea crew members traveling with to a C-1 and D nonimmigrant visa
  • Persons whose entry would be in the national interest, as determined by the Secretary of State, Secretary of Transportation, or Secretary of Homeland Security (or their designees)

There are very limited exemptions. The only one that would potentially apply to Novak is the exemption for if vaccination is medically contraindicated, meaning he has some acute or chronic medical condition that makes vaccination inadvisable.

That's right and in case anyone is wondering what exactly that means, here it is in the US context:

I am going to remember. Promise. All fedal fans will. But if he didn't lie I am fine with the government losing.
