Djokodal Slam H2H - Rank the matches

Hitman

Bionic Poster
The two have played each other 17 times in slams, with Nadal leading 10-7 overall. Looking back at their storied history in the slams, how would you personally rank the matches taking into account quality of play, historical stakes, drama, energy/excitment, story telling, level of play and all the other factors. Which match ranks at the top for you personally and why and as result, which matches rank lower for you.

Just to think of the 9 finals they played just 1 went to 5 sets although level in some of 4 setters also was top notch but no wonder Fedal impact was way more due to mamy more 5 set finales despite less overall meeting

2012 AO final
2013 RG semi
2018 Wimbledon semi
2012 RG final
2008 RG semi
2014 RG final
2011 USO final

2019 AO final
2007 RG semi
2015 RG quarter
2020 RG final
2021 RG semi

Somewhat combination of average level between the two and drama/importance.

Considering those were the sole 5 setters in their rivalry and all were high quality, I would be surprised :D

Yes, and hence I would be interested to know their reasons.

I want to see what the general consensus is on how we see these matches, so will be doing it for other slam H2H showings.

1. Wimbledon 2018 SF
2. AO 2012 F

slight gap

3. RG 2013 SF
4. RG 2012 F
5. USO 2010 F
6. USO 2011 F
7. RG 2021 SF
8. RG 2008 SF (if this match was longer, I'd rate it higher)
9. W 2011 F
10. USO 2013 F
11. RG 2014 F (I don't remember this one very much aside from Nadal's FH looking great here and Djokovic being below-par)

rest doesn't really matter but I did quite enjoy the RG 2020 beatdown

For me W2018 and AO12 are too overrated. On the other side, RG13, RG21 and USO11 each had a set which can be seen as the best set ever in GS match.
Also, i think we should make 2 lists. One where we rank matches quality wise, and other in tearms of historical importance.

RG 2013 5th set is the truth. That day Novak forced Nadal to unleash the beast like nobody else ever did in RG.

Pretty good list. I would switch a few of them but I think my list is closest to this.

I would put 2012 AO F and 2013 RG SF on the top of the list. Both guys were in their prime and at or close to their best, pushed each other to the limits at their worst Slam and put themselves in a winnable position. Even though I think either match could or should have been a four set victory, I'm glad we got a five-set drama both times.

Well, in the 10-7 there are already 2 W.O when Djokovic was still a teen. This needs to be reminded before ranking these matches.

In completed match it's 8-7. I'll try to rank these 15.

AO12 > FO13 > USO11 > FO21 > Wim18 > USO10 > FO08 > Wim11 > USO13 > FO14 > FO12 > AO19 > FO20 > FO15 > FO07

Roland 2007, 2015, 2020 and Australia 2019 were just forgettable matches for me. Too one-sided and not high quality level.
Roland 2008 was also 3 sets but the level was there. The 3rd set was epic.
Wimbledon 2011, USO 2013, Roland 2014 and 2012 were all average 4 sets. Good matches but not excellent.

The first 6 on my list were clearly the best Djokodal for me, it was hard to rank them.

10-7 lmfao keep crying

AO (nole's best and raffa's worst slam) 2 matches (11.8%, -13.2): 2 - 0 nole
RG (nole's worst and rafa's best slam) 9 matches (52.9%, +27.9): 7 - 2 rafa
W (noles second best and rafas second worst slam) 3 matches (17.6%, -7.4): 2 - 1 nole
USO (rafas second best and noles second worst slam) 3 matches (17.6%, -7.4): 2 - 1 rafa

rafa has not won at all outside clay (all tournaments included) since USO 2013 against nole and has not taken a set on HC! since then (8 years) they have played one match on W, one on AO and 4 on RG (2-2)!

Now this poster knows his epicness.

You ever watched the anime movie?

Haven't watched it, but you just gave me an idea what to watch after work. I only watched the movie with Van Damme as Guile and, of course, played the arcade game like a maniac back in the day.

Kylie Minogue randomly being in that movie in the prime of her music career to shoot rocket launchers in the jungle is so funny to me

Thanks a bunch. Will be watching this. A big Street Fighter fan.
Did you see the newest Mortal kombat animated movie?

You will seriously like this if you are a Street Fighter fan, to me is the best movie of them all in the franchise.

Yes, I have the latest Mortal Kombat animated movie. ;)

Satsui no Hado - I love it absolutely. There was a great non animated movie as well some years ago. Better than the 1994 JCVD one.

The Chun Li movie?

Funny thing about the JCVD 1994 version. Van Damme as anyone who knows anything about pop culture made the brutally iconic Blood Sport movie, which is still the best full contact knock out tournament movie ever made, better then Enter The Dragon, that movie lead to the creation of Mortal Kombat and the main character Johnny Cage being based on Van Damme, even having his first two initials....

Well, Mortal Kombat the movie was being made at the same time as Street Fighter, and instead of taking up the offer to star in a movie that was basically about him and a homage to Blood Sport, he went with Street Fighter instead, forcing them to changing the storyline for the Mortal Kombat and focus more on Liu.

AO12 obviously tops the list. Greatest match of all time, nuff said no excuses. Tagging @MichaelNadal just to p1ss him off :D

I'm conflicted between W18 and RG13 for #2. Both were instant classics, with plenty of drama and sustained quality. Unforgettable for very different reasons (you FedFans took until 2019 to feel the same pain we felt on that Djokosmash). This sounds like a good thread idea (with only Fed fans allowed to answer for obvious reasons).

After that, USO11. One of those matches that was wayyyy better than the scoreline suggested. Nothing short of a heavyweight showdown.

Beyond that:
USO10
RG21
USO13
RG12
W11
RG14
AO19
RG08
RG15
RG07
RG20
RG06
W07

What was that, Rafa devotee? I'd love to hear back from you once Nadal beats Djokovic at AO :)
2-1 at the biggest HC event, you djokonut. Rafa also won Gold on HC while your boy got destroyed by Zverev. Now go away.

Nice looking trophy, isn't it? Be a shame if your guy couldn't even win one of these despite qualifying for 15 of the last 16.

Nadal went out with 5-0 lead. To come back and lead 7-5 is not too bad, considering 4 of last 6 were at RG.
