Given their success on outdoor hard courts in the last year, NextGen poses a new challenge for the Djokoray comeback (not the old familiar pigeons.;)) We've begun to get a feel for Fedal vs NextGen over the last year or so, but what about Djokoray.

The Murray matchups through Tiafoe (34th in race):
Murray v Zverev - Murray owns Zverev and one can see why with his great first returning
Murray v Kyrgios - ibid
Murray v Thiem - Murray has never straight set Thiem due to Thiem hitting through Murray
Murray v Coric - (2-2) won't be easy as Coric much better player this year
Murray v Edmund - Edmund just won in Eastbourne
Murray v Chung - never played, but potential Djokovic lite dynamic
Murray v Khachanov - (1-0) straight sets RG 2017
Murray v Tsitsipas - never played, but good chance Tsitsipas may be able to hit through Murray
Murray v Shapovalov - ibid, power to the Shapo backhand works and to lesser extent with Tsitsipas
Murray v Tiafoe - another hard call as you expose Tiafoe by hitting deep and hard to him
Murray v Pouille - (4-0)

Djokovic scenario:
Djokovic v Zverev - Zverev has been able to baseline dominate Djokovic off the return and serve
Djokovic v Kyrgios - lost to Kyrgios twice in 2017
Djokovic v Thiem - Thiem improved since their 2016 Miami encounter, so may be issue on outdoor hard
Djokovic v Coric - (2-0) including Monte Carlo win this year
Djokovic v Edmund - lost on clay this year and Edmund took set at Wimbledon
Djokovic v Chung - Chung has been injured more than Nole, so despite Auz Open loss, adv. Djoko
Djokovic v Khachanov - never played
Djokovic v Tsitsipas - never played, but Nole's depth should be issue for Tsitsipas
Djokovic v Shapovalov - ibid
Djokovic v Tiafoe - should be able to frustrate Frances and neutralize his shot making
Djokovic v Pouille - never played

Looks like Djokovic will not be troubled that much by NextGen, but if Kyrgios and Zverev start showing up deep in events there will be some showdowns.

Murray's path is much more problematic, but in contrast to Djokovic he pretty much owns Kyrgios and Zverev. So Murray could do very well once he's deeper in a draw with these two in the latter stages. Kyrgios and Zverev are the bookies' NextGen favorites at US Open. Murray is playing Citi Open (Zverev won last year plus Kyrgios in field this year), Rogers Cup (Zverev won), Cincy (Kyrgios in 2017 final).

Zverev's meteoric rise at the M1000 level seemed to dovetail with Djokovic's most recent form slump.

Now that Djokovic is back at the top of the game it will be fascinating to see if Zverev's head to head momentum holds, or if Djokovic completely reframes the matchup in the demanding M1000 format.

Hopefully we see them playoff in the later stages of Cincinnati, USO and Shanghai before a climactic WTF decider.

Hopefully we have a clash at Roger's Cup. Kyrgios is ranked low enough to be an unseeded floater so shades of Acapulco/Miami 2017 very possible as well.

I think Novak will find it a bit hard to beat Kyrgios and Zverev. This Wimbledon title seems like a fluke, came out of nowhere for him. He is still work in progress..

Kyrgios gets another chance to act as the underdog/disrupter, the position he feels most comfortable with. It will be fascinating.

One of the most anticipated north american hardcourt seasons for a while imo.
