Djokovic’s health is under concern in Paris

“I didn't feel health-wise 100 per cent in the last couple of days, but it is what it is. It's not the first time I didn't play at a really high level. Lots of errors, especially in the first set,” Djokovic said. “First time against a young player who is talented, very quick. Returns a lot of balls back that usually other guys wouldn't get, he gets it. And he was pumped, and I respect his fighting spirit.

“It was a good match in the end, and I found a way to win, which in [these] circumstances... when you're not feeling your best, is important.”

He will next meet Briton Kyle Edmund, who beat 14th seed Diego Schwartzman of Argentina 7-5, 6-3. Djokovic leads their FedEx ATP Head2Head series 4-1, with Edmund's win coming on clay at the 2018 Mutua Madrid Open.

The Serbian needs to finish fewer than 1,500 ATP Race To London points behind Nadal to have a chance at ending the year in the top spot for the sixth time. He is currently 1,280 Race points behind Nadal, who controls his fate when it comes to year-end No. 1. Should the Spaniard win his first Masters 1000 Paris title, he will finish year-end No. 1 for the fifth time.

Sounds like excuses to me to rationalize not finishing #1. Then if he does, he can say he did it anyway in spite of not being healthy.

He's not the only one who does this, by the way. But it needs to be pointed out that Nadal is not the only guy who "never wins when he is healthy". ;)

Nah, you got it all wrong. Federer and Nadal never lost when healthy. Djokovic on the other hand never lost when playing at >80%.

When it comes to health, Djokovic is the luckiest player ever, because he plays the most physical style of tennis yet has dealt with very few injuries during an extremely long period near the top.
Rafa whereas has injured almost every part of his body in some way, and is still on the way to equaling Djokovic/Federer's year-end-#1s :)

I can see everyone falling apart so Nadal strolls to the title facing no top players except maybe Zverev, who he owns anyway. Tragicomedy gold scenario.

I really don’t think that’s how any of these players think or act. Think of the people you know that always come up with excuses. They simply don’t push themselves very hard. These guys operate at a level very few of us can even understand in terms of the mental and physical commitment it requires.

No one thinks Nole is, or ever will be, back at 2015 levels. That’s gone. He knows it, we all know it. He’ll try to win as much as he can knowing his best days are over. But he’s still good enough to win plenty more.

Me and 125 got a cold as well. Under duvet watching Novak and Rafa from the bed.
It’s the season, time for a cold, winter knocking on the door.
Not a fan of this time of the year for sure.

I am having some tonsil problems now myself. Amazing how much I beg for good health even during minor sickness, then don't even pay attention when the problem is gone.

When I get sick I am always telling myself I will be healthier and think about when I was not sick and how great it was. But once healthy again I scoff at being sick.

It is like we can't remember how it feels to be sick when not sick.

I love winter but I don’t like to be sick :cautious:

I do believe Novak tells the truth. I saw something was bothering him during the match. He doesn’t make up illnesses. And all that travel they do, all the people they meet. It’s incredible they aren’t ill more often.

You should listen to his voice in his interview.

He fakes a lot. I can't tell if half of the crap he says or does is the truth.
I remember him teetering about in the heat... almost falling over.
Next point he is sprinting for the balls.
Probably his way psychological warfare.

I don't agree, he has very light body and is playing controlled aggression. Just enough to win, of course there are matches sometimes when he needs to push himself to the limit but its the same for every player of the BIG 3.

Incredible I'm experiencing the same thing right now - with random periods of extreme fatigue and dehydration
And I hate stepping out of the house as for some reason my throat gets more and more inflamed. It's not even that cold
