Djokovic and Federer are so far ahead of everybody else right now

I really enjoyed watching the set they played today at the IPTL - fantastic quality tennis as usual from these two guys even though it was only an exhibition. These two are so far ahead of all the other players right now it's ridiculous.

I can't wait for more high quality Fedovic matches next year! :)

If you say it often enough you will eventually convince yourself. :)
 
They really are - definitely the favourites for Australia, and given the question mark against Rafa (who, even before the injury/illness, was not having a great year other than raising his game for RG) it might be like that for a while. Nishikori and Wawrinka could be dangerous.

Federer-Djokovic is the best rivalry at the moment, though, no question - they always produce great matches and top shot-making.

Agree. That's one of the interesting facets of the AO. It's hard to tell how players will come off the break. Now someone pull some stats demonstrating how end-of-season results transfer to AO results:)

Agree fully with the bolded. They play the best matches in my opinion, and we should be in for some good ones next year too!

I know fully well that there is only so much a 33 year old can do.

But we cannot take away the results he has had. 3000 + points difference over the next higher competitor at this age is rare, if not impossible.

I agree, it's remarkable! We should enjoy every remaining match he plays. I still have a hope, however slight, about Wimbledon '15.
 
Not surprising two players having 10 WTF titles combined are playing indoors gives exciting and high quality match.. Indoor is about pure skills and these two head and shoulder above rest in terms of skills except few good players which are inconsistent.

Another reason for good quality match was court was medium fast. This court speed generally gives very good chance for shot makers to implement their natural game.

It always puzzles why Djokovic always brings his A game for Masters or WTF or heck even in exhibitions but not in Slam? With this kind of form no matter how much juiced opponent is he'll give him beat down.

For Federer I have good as well as bad signs too. It was joy to watch Federer popping up his forehand with bigger racket which is trying for almost year but this match sent me alarm too because Federer was using Annacone's useless tactics of making point short ruining smooth all court game again. I hope he throws those tactics to garbage and continue to resurrect his all court majestic game.

If trend in Federer's resurrection continues, I can see these two giving some great matches in 2015. Djokovic will be OK but big question is can Federer hold this level at 33-34?

Nadal fans don't need therapy to come to terms with his achievements. We are very happy with his successes and failures. Other fans seem to need to cheer themselves up regarding their player's h2h with Nadal that's why they have the group therapy sessions all the time, trying to clutch at straws
 
At this point, Nadal deserves to be grouped with Federer and Djokovic under the much better than everybody else category. Nadal hasn't gone away. He'll be back come the AO, and his level should be fine, at least in the sense that Federer and Djokovic are not "much better" than him.

He's less than 3000 points over a guy who missed 2 masters, 1 slam, 1 WTF and played 2 masters with appendicitis.

Next year Nadal will overtake Fed comfortably. It's amazing Nadal has so many points having skipped all those tournaments and earned significantly less on clay than he usually does.

Love Fedovic too but a Fedpotro match is also equally intriguing. Hope the big guy comes back healthy and shakes off the rust for some awesome battles.

Well, they aren't seeded #1 and #2 for nothing! If they weren't better than everybody else, then the seedings would be worthless! :wink:
 
Absolutely true - especially in terms of consistency on the tour. I hope they continue providing entertainment in 2015 as well.

Of course, Nadal will also re-enter the picture by the time the Australian Open comes round and if he plays a full season he'll probably catch up to them quite quickly.
Unless Nishikori or someon else makes a big move next year, we'll still see the same names at the top of the game.

Beware of fact that guy ranked two in the world has 98% of tour younger than him and at the same age 'Warrior' ran away from competition with Words "I'm not competitive enough" after arse getting kicked by kid yet to hit puberty, he was dominant number one battling with array of good young players like Murray, Djokovic, Potro, Sod. and several from his generation.
 
If you were all so sure and comfortable in the knowledge that Rafa is trailing Fedkovic why do you need all these threads trying to put Rafa down? You don't have threads like this about Murray or Del Potro or Tsonga or anyone else. Just Nadal, because you are all trying to console each other to come to terms with Nadal.

He can play full season but he's ran away from competition saying something like I'm not competitive enough.

If Nadal wasn't good enough to beat Brown, Kyrgios, Lopez, Klizan, Coric in second half of season with conditions not favouring him, then how his fans claim he should be included in group of consistent players?

Do they believe Nadal's performance on slow courts in first half enough to establish himself as consistent top player without playing much in second? LOL

He can't play a full season if he put out 100% physically, because eventually his body will breakdown somewhere during the year.

He can play a full season if he cut down the stress/physically taxing style. But that will not be a winning recipe, which will be not enough to reach #1.

Nadal can only choose the former or the latter, but not both.

He was 2 years older in 2013 than he was in 2011 and he still ended 2013 as #1. Everyone will be 2 years older unless I'm missing something.

Sure, but that doesn't mean Djokovic and Federer are "so far ahead" of him. In order for that to really be true, you'd have to really favour either Federer or Djokovic to win the AO while not giving much a chance to Nadal, but we all know that's not true. It's not like his level just dropped off a cliff (like Murray for example), he just doesn't sustain a high level for as long right now, but he definitely has a shot at the AO next year.

To be clear, I give Federer and Djokovic major props for their consistency, and would prefer it not to be downplayed, but that doesn't mean Nadal can't beat them when he does play at a high level no matter how short a period of time that is.

If he has 0 points, all the more better , since he will gain points every tournament :):)

If you cannot compete, that is same as first round loss.

Fed and Novak were head and shoulders above Nadal for much of the year in health, being (mostly) injury free. Fed had the back problem in the WTF, Novak had a bit of wrist trouble.

That's my only conclusion. The rest of this is just crystal ball gazing.

Is there any news of Nadal practicing yet?

Did anybody notice Novak's overhead in the last rubber? Lol!

Score was 5-5 between Nole and Rogi, and then in the TB Nole gives a minibreak by hitting an overhead long. It was a "power point" which means the minibreak Federer earned gave him two points.
