Djokovic and Isner explain why more tennis players aren't going to the Olympics

Three players have decided they will not be playing in the Rio Olympics, namely 15th-ranked Dominic Thiem, 19th-ranked John Isner, and 23rd ranked Feliciano Lopez. The reason probably looks like points being not awarded for Olympics, and Isner has stressed on this part being a pretty big factor.

Djokovic opines that Olympics is arguably the fifth slam, so all those guys touting Cincy as the fifth slam goes for a toss and all those Olympic aficionados get a boost. ;):D

Djokovic also said Miami will not be gone, and in a month, its clear Miami will go, just a matter of time. He's opinion means squat.

ITF has shown it values Olympics not even close to slam by giving it 0 points.

As I've said repeatedly, the current Olympics is a pseudo prestigious event of political (and other) money grubbers. It very much is huge for sports which are defined by this event, but already popular sports such as football or tennis really have no place (and a highly limited popularity) in this overhyped contest that has lost hold of its roots.

Points are a part of the ATP system so my guess is that they are responsible for giving the Olympics zero points.

And as I've said repeatedly, this 'tennis isn't part of Olympic heritage/roots' argument is complete arsegravy. There have been 28 modern Olympiads. Tennis was played at the first 6 (1896 - 1924) and has featured in 17 Olympiads in total i.e. tennis has appeared at the Olympics more times than it hasn't.

Ahh... wanted Nole to take the outright lead in Miami wins, but tied with Agassi at 6 is good enough for me.
Its not happening next year, maybe after that. They can't expand and they are already not widely recieved because of 2 week schedule, IW getting more share of US fans and other things, if not expanded, they will have to go away.

Ahh, then hopefully he'll do the double there again next year. With that he'll have the outright wins in Miami, IW, Paris and Shanghai. Not bad at all!

What's it gonna be replaced by?

It's not necessarily going until it's current (I believe it's 7 years or so left) lease is over. And even if the two parties negotiate an early out of the lease it's not going away rather moving unless the owner sells it and the ATP approves the sale and that whole process takes place.

It may move. It may not. Time will tell. Maybe the two parties will wait it out until BTCs wealthy buddy who by some accounts is the driver behind preventing the proposed expansion of the tennis center (resulting in the owner's threat to move the tourney) has a change of heart or moves on to the next world.

Either way the tourney has by most reports a couple more years min. in Key Biscayne before it could move even if both parties were into a move.

This is what I said months ago and people jumped on me and said points shouldn't matter, it's all about playing for your country. I said it's fair for these players to skip it. Also you forgot Tomic who's ranked higher then Lopez ;)

Leave Tomic out of it. He's a busy man. He has other things to do.
