Djokovic calls Federer the "greatest ever"

Novak Djokovic:

Roger is one of the people that made me a better player. He helped me understand what I need to do to become a better player and to win against him and win Grand Slam trophies.

He’s so good and so consistent. He is the greatest ever. There’s not enough praise for what he does. This is where he plays his best tennis, I think. It's probably going to be the biggest challenge I can have.

Federer had criticized Djoker earlier in his career for not being so committed. Federer saw the potential in Djokovic and was expecting more from him. He was thinking about the good of tennis. Djokovic finally saw this and his become the tennis monster he is today in part because of those criticisms as Djokovic says now.

So that means Federer is, in effect, a (17+8+1)-time Slam champion.

I can see six motivations here, which may even all be present simultaneously:

1. Novak is playing mind games.
2. Novak is hyping up Fed in order to more credit when beating him tomorrow.
3. So desperate to be liked
4. Passive aggression that cements the well-known (courtesy of Boris) feud between Fed and Novak.
5. Fed paid him to say this.
6. Nadal paid Novak to say this in order to secure his own underdog status for his comeback:eek::eek::eek:

You're forgetting:
-Murray told Djokovic to say this so that Murray's SF loss wouldn't look so bad
-Djokovic said this so that his possible Final loss tomorrow won't look so bad.
-Djokovic thinks Federer will be so pleased with the compliment that he'll let Djokovic win.

P-A-I-D
Paid.

pay paid paid

Well, we got Djokovic and McEnroe's latest opinion of Fed.

Wilander should kick in his opinion soon.

Wilander: He's playing for fun. Last year at Wimbledon he lost in the final to Djokovic and he was laughing afterwards, if you can remember that? If you love Federer, stop talking about this, because the more you talk about it, the more focus there is on what he can't do. No, he's the greatest player of all time and let's leave it at that. If he wins, great, and if he doesn't, great.
