Djokovic has 5,350 points to defend in coming months, (Madrid (500)+ Rome(600)+Belgrade (250)+Rg(2000)+Wimbledon (2000)
How many he defends as per you. I think he defends around half of it at max
My prediction around 2500(Wimbledon (1200)+Rg(720)+Madrid (180)+Rome(360)

Djokovic already said last year that weeks at #1 wasn't something he was interested in once he bagged the record. So it shouldn't matter if he pads his 367 weeks, that's long enough to last for many years as the stand alone record. Obviously (and he said it at AO last year), the only thing he cares about at this point are slams. And, he's also interested the Single OGM, but he'll be 38 when that's next played, so forget about that dream.

If Wimbledon seriously isn’t going to have points I could see 0-1000. He is in a bad, bad way right now. Otherwise I’d say 2-3000, I think he could still win Wimbledon despite the current struggles.

Djokovic is paying the price for losing RG2020. He had to redline 2021 to stay in touch with Nadal and burnt himself out. It was so obvious it was going to happen. He is not anywhere close to top 10 level currently and probably won't be for some time yet.
He should at least defend Madrid but Rome and RG are certain non starters.

We should not be so pessimistic.
The good thing is that Nole won’t have to defend any AO points in its next edition, in case his ban is lifted and he’s admitted into the country.

Needs Morrison to lose the election to play next year. Really hope it happens as the game is poorer without Dokovic

2 to 3 thousands is a rational choice

If you read between the lines, I don't think he cares too much about defending points and being #1. He wants to add more slams. If he wins RG, then it gives him a third career surface slam and it will give him an extra talking point in the GOAT debate. My best guess is that he gains 2000-2500 points in these upcoming events. Alcaraz will be an extra detriment to all the past champions defending their points.

Nadal took his soul. Nadal is the Earth's Mightiest Warrior.

Has it been confirmed that the ATP won't award any points for Wimbledon? If yes, how is that fair to folks who played it last year and won points? How does that even work in the great scale of things? A really messy affair...

Maybe they could still allow points for the 52 week system, but don't allow points for the calendar year Race.

That's not what he's paying the price for.

He's paying the price for thinking he was bigger than the game and trying to involve himself in (read: dominate) too many off-court issues.

I don't think he really cares anymore. He's long overtaken the weeks record and there's 0 chance either Federer or Nadal pass it. The record may very well stand for another 30+ years.

It's more so how he can perform at the slam level. He played pretty mediocre in Belgrade but a lot of those 3 setters in tough conditions have definitely helped him get into shape. Number 1 priority from now to RG is continual match play, avoiding playing too many tournaments, and making a push to defend RG and level it with Nadal. If he does that, the slam race is in his control again.

The ATP should stop messing about with the points. We are just about coming out of the Covid points structure and they are thinking of another anomaly by depriving players their well earned points at Wimbledon.

Only important in that period are FO and W... Novak will win both imo...
Points are not high on Novak's importance list...
