@fundrazer your smartass is slow now but your fingers are dumbass fast! I thought you had the answer on the tip of finger but ...

Till we know what "wrong visa" Novak's landed with, we know nothing but that there's a lot of bitterness at that airport.

Visa 421 If you are a sportsperson wishing to enter Australia to play then you will need to obtain a Subclass 421 Sports Visa. Who is this visa for? This visa is for both professional and amateur individuals and teams as well as their coaches, support staff or instructors.
Wouldn't Novak and his team know that, considering he has played the AO for 10 or more years? The Visa story seems to me to be BS harrassment.

You really think they went all this way and through this trouble to leave him out based on a logistical error? Nah.
I hope you're right. This is ridiculous. I'm getting more concerned he's seeing the backlash and just heads home. The fact that people don't understand "don't hate the player, hate the game" shows how reactionary and dumb they are. No one complains when LeBron gets "star calls".

Novak didn't do anything wrong here; he just followed protocols and was up front about it, unlike the others that got it The Australian govt doesn't like it and saw an opportunity to save face when his manager ****ed up some papers. Treat the man like a human being!

This is turning on the Australians and going in Djokers favor now.

Yes, the old find me a mistake on the Visa application routine..
These new Covid Visa / serious medical exemptions for world no.1, fit as F athletes, are tricky things!

What a **** up!

The fact that public opinion has gone ballistic over it and it's election time soon has nothing to do with it, of course :-D

They are now treating him like a criminal. Way overboard. People are switching the narrative a bit and I see in the social media. The longer they detain him the worst they look.
I hope that continues. The amt of people who claim not to be medical experts but give medical advice is appalling. For example, everyone keeps using Novak's physical attributes as to why he can't have a medical exemption. How hypocritical is that? I have an immune system issue but am fit as a fiddle, and no one would know. It causes issues under the surface that no one sees. I have to manage it.

If everyone thought logically instead of being seflish, reactionary, and parroting the agenda-driven media, this would be a better place.

I didnt like the medical exemption, but this is ridiculous. Time for tennis. This is absurd and Djoker is looking more and more like the guy getting screwed now.

Same but it happened and it's time to move on, like you said. We can't keep speculating on stuff we don't know. Time to gear up for perhaps the biggest tennis event of the year.

Djokovic was arrogant and coy leading up to getting his exemption, so people looked closer... But he got his exemption, flawed as that process might have been.

His biggest problem now is the uproar that exemption caused in Australia. And now, the visa technicality gives the government a chance to change their minds. It's early morning there, and after the powers that be see which direction the wind is blowing, will either let him in, or send him back 'home' to Monaco. Hopefully he has enough of the right papers (ca$h) to let him back in there.

What a mess.

So the atmosphere in Australia for unvaccinated is like something from a Monty Python movie:

Here's a fresh update:

Djokovic being quizzed about evidence to support vax exemption by border officials in airport room hours after landing. Fedal govt source said COVID infection in past 6mos - suspected basis for Novak's exemption - may not suffice under border laws https://t.co/TM5BF0Gu80 @theage

This is the newest

At 5.30am, 6 hours after Novak Djokovic landed in Melbourne, he's still being questioned by Border Force officials in an airport room. They're assessing docs to support his vax exemption. A source said the longer it goes, the smaller the chance he'll be permitted entry @theage

Australian government is pro-Fedal.
Now it's all clear.

This is nonsense. Why does he need to be interrogated for 6 hours? Can't he just request a corrected visa?

Edit: all Australia is doing is showing how dysfunctional they are. The medical, govt, and Australian Open officials somehow aren't on the same page.

The corrected visa IS the one that permits exemptions.

He cannot enter with a business visa but only a sports visa which allows the exemption.

If he has produced a certificate from a Serbian doctor saying he had COVID in the last 6 months, the veracity of the document has to be verified. That was not the job of the medical body. It is the job of immigration officials. It is standard procedure. In the US, students have tried to enter with a student visa issued by bogus universities, but were caught when immigration checked.

I dont think he is there because of lying. I think he is there because of a logistical mistake and Australia is taking advantage of that.

It was a mistake, but probably not a lie. A lie implies intent to mislead. That doesnt mean he and his team won't be held accountable.

And Australian authorities are taking advantage of the extra time overnight to see what their voters are thinking before they decide. Welcome to the real world.

Although a nation who loves their sports, I expect at the moment most Australians care more about pandemic politics than whether a non citizen player is let into their country on perceived 'shady' grounds.

Most Australians will wake up to the news that Djoke is under BF custody.

If public sentiment is towards deportation, Belgrade 3 and 4 are confirmed.

It's fitting if the Australian government is indeed lying about his "erroneous" visa. Since we all know Nole lied about whatever he used to get his "exemption".

Whatever happens? Novak is now the most loathed athlete in the world. Roger and Rafa are laughing their asses off right now.

His hubris is simply off the charts. Had he just stuck to his principles? I would have had so much respect for him - even if I disagree with his principles. But he thought he could have his cake and eat it too.

Interesting. This says there are "concerns over evidence supporting his vaccine exemption". Is that implying they disagree with the decision of the medical panel? Suspect fraudulent documentation?

Can he get the right visa? This can't be the first time a player has arrived on the wrong visa, is it?

Oh man the right visa is the only one that provides the exemption. After that correction, the exemption itself need to be checked because the medical board said they don't check the veracity of what is submitted to them. If a paid-off Serbian doctor had provided fake certificates, it is no different from students to the US who landed up with fake diplomas and were caught at the airport.

So was he granted the right visa, and applied for the wrong one?

You are not a comrade just because you want to keep your country safe. But if it is simply visa issue, this shouldn't be that hard, right?

Yeah, such a danger to the country, a virus with a 0.2% IFR and average age of death of 80. We have been taken hostage by selfish boomers that want to add a year or two to their retirement.
