Lol yea okay. Bye bye NovakYep, but they finally entered the 21st centuary by getting lights and now a roof, so now they get a 3rd place by default.
No it is not. Mac was disqualified from the 1990 AO, and he's an ATG (though not the defending champion that year).is this the first time in grand slam history a top player, much less a defending champion has been knocked out of the tournament because of a disqualification
This is way too harsh.
Look at other examples of Nalbandian, Shapalov, and even young Tim Henman, who clearly reacted in anger and took a huge swing and hit someone.
In this case it was barely hit: it's unfortunate it hit the old lady in the throat, but a game penalty would have been enough punishment.
Remember the lines person Edberg killed with his serve?Novak only has himself to blame for this. I hope the woman he hit is OK.
Why would he hit the ball to the lines person? The lines person is not the ball boy or ball girl.w
The context of returning the ball to the linesperson was change of service yes?
Just going by the stats, dude. Nadal opted not to play US Open this year. That was his choice. Because he's not confident that he can play at peak level across 2 Slams along with the risk of injury. So he chose to go with RG even despite the coronavirus risk being the same. He'll break the Slam record by winning RG. But I don't think he's going to win the US Open ever again. He'll be 35 when he plays it next year and there are stronger players come to the forefront now.
I hate USO. The whole situation is ridiculous. You have a 100 years old lineswoman screaming behind. What an awful tournament this USOpen.
LOL at the thread,
Djokovic is returning the balls to the corner of the back of the court which is what every player does on change of service. Why would he hit the ball to the lines person? The lines person is not the ball boy or ball girl.
That's a fair argument. I disagree with the last part, but it's not outrageous to claim Rafa's absolute AO peak may be better than Roger's.Seriously. Rafa has played in a combined 10 Wimbledon and Aussie finals. He's been on the wrong end of 3 (07 Wimb, 12 AO, 17 AO) epic finals and was robbed by injury of another AO (14). I'd argue that Rafa's peak AO is better than Roger's peak AO. The 09 Rafa probably beats 12' Djoker in 4 sets.
In the pre-Covid world, I would agree 100%, but you can't predict anything right now.Two of the next three slams are at RG.....I'd say it's almost certain Nadal at least has 20 by next June and quite possibly 21.
Hopefully Thiem or Medvedev win this slam.
This whole business of "intent" is irrelevant. It doesn't matter if it was intentional, the rules are explicit about this. Shapo didn't do this on purpose either:I don’t think he should have been defaulted for this at all. He didn’t do it on purpose.
Djokovic had pain in the neck coming to the USO, now he gives neck pain to a lines woman while departing
Lol yea okay. Bye bye Novak

Waiting for the Kings tweet?
I didn't even know you could be disqualified for almost nothing. He obviously didn't have any intention of hitting anyone. If these are the rules, then it is a good call. I'd still change this specific rule.

What does age have to do with it? Also how do you know how old she was?Why hire old people for this job ? especially with covid.

This Busta’s tournament nowZverev now will reach the final from Novak's half.
Lmaoo why so mad?I wish you would stfu. Grown people are talking.
This stinks, but I can't vehemently disagree with the decision. I love Novak, but he has to control those bursts of temper better. I was hoping he'd get a game penalty, or something short of a DQ.
Another one who says "the rules are very clear" but I challenge you to point out where in the rulebook does it say that this is grounds for immediate disqualificationYou can't make exceptions based on stuff like that, the rules are very clear and with Djokovic, this is FAR from the first time an incidient like this has happened. He has hit balls away in fustration before, he has thrown his racquet that almost bounced up at hit someone in the crowd. This one was possibly his weakest in terms of reaction but it was a long time coming and unfortunately for him, it came at the absolute worst time.
@NoleFam Great attitude! At the end of the day, it's just a game.Well finally we can stop hearing all this whining about this tournament now that the bad wolf is gone, and we can actually enjoy the rest of this tournament. I'm actually ok with the decision today, and am curious to see which one of these young guys will take this.
$20K?That's the same woman who told the umpire that Federer cursed on court and cost him a $20K fine at AO earlier this year! LOL
Lmaoo why so mad?

Djokovic: "You're going to choose a default in this situation? My career, grand slam, center stage?"
