Wow. He Powder puffed the ball towards one of the kids and didn’t even scream ‘I’m going to ram this ball down your throat’...DQ?

The USTA is firmly in control - since the ladies Effective DQ’s for the virus they don’t even have yesterday - why don’t they just save the planet a bit more by crowning their choice now? What could be more PC?

No way can I stay away with this news.

I haven't even been watching tennis since the pandemic because I think all results have asterisks, and because tennis is boring without a crowd. But without question, it's now interesting to see who will win his first slam title. Still, history will show that took a pandemic and a disqualification for a player born in the 90s to finally win a slam.

USTA says Djokovic will lose all ranking points earned. So how does this work considering the ATP is keeping whichever result was better between this year and last year?

That is another "intervention" from the heaven or from the under world (pick your side) together with COVID-19 to keep Roger Federer as the leader in number of GS titles. This is totally bad decision by the judges for the unfortunate and unintentional hit of lines person by Novak. Idiotic decision. But Novak got his karma back for all the things he did lately.
Nadal is one behind Fed with the FO 3 weeks away

He hit a line judge. And an old woman at that.
Other players have been disqualified for hitting lines judges and umpires (Shapo, Nalbandian)

Other players have only been penalised.

This shouldn’t have been a DQ. They just don’t like him - I’m not a fan of his, by I tell it for what it is. If that was Federer or Nadal, play continues all day long

Apparently Djokovic has skipped the press conference and everything. Such a fool, if he was smart he would front the media, apologise profusely and do damage control for his career. Now he just looks like an immature loser. Way to carry on the image of his failures following the Adria tour, he’s destroyed his image.

Like this is the 1st time someone lost their cool on court and were defaulted. Shapovalov is the worst one I have ever seen and we went to bed, woke up the next day and everybody went on with their lives. He is obviously extremely upset since this is the 1st time this has happened and this is a Slam, and instead of saying something regretfully, skipping the press conference is probably the best thing. This has no impact on his image since everyone knows it was an accident and not intentional.

Bulls—t. Shapo was DQ’d in DC for accidentally hitting the chair ump. No player should get special treatment. Fed and Nadal wouldn’t have either.

Well finally we can stop hearing all this whining about this tournament now that the bad wolf is gone, and we can actually enjoy the rest of this tournament. I'm actually ok with the decision today, and am curious to see which one of these young guys will take this.

I do wish you'd stop being such a good fan all over the place.

I like my prejudices about fans of other players to stay intact and unchallenged.

Please stop. Stop living in your little fantasy world. It's completely understandable he doesnt wanna talk to anyone after going out in such a way in a GS tournament. Just try to imagine how he is feeling and stop living in your little bubble.

Anyone saying he didn't have an intention to harm the judge are just wrong! Sure he didn't have a direct intention to cause harm to that particular person (hopefully) but launching the ball like that just knowing there are line judges back there and he could hit someone.. that's indirect intent! Still guilty of breaking the rules (horribly) and a good call to default him!

This comparison is so stupid. Actions speak louder than words. If someone on the street said I’m going to kill you and then someone else actually does it, obviously the one who committed the crime gets the harsher punishment. I’d rather someone threaten to shove a ball than actually have one smacked towards me and hitting me in the throat.

Another one who says "the rules are very clear" but I challenge you to point out where in the rulebook does it say that this is grounds for immediate disqualification

Sure thing.

In addition, if such violation occurs during a match (including the warmup), the player shall be penalised in accordance with the Point Penalty Schedule hereinafter set forth.

S. POINT PENALTY SCHEDULE

T. DEFAULTS
The Referee in consultation with the Grand Slam Chief of Supervisors may declare a default for either a single violation of this Code or pursuant to the Point Penalty Schedule set out above.

He didnt to that intentionally, there is no point actually do this intentionally.

I can see the point. There was no INTENT to "hit the linesperson in the throat," but it was the result of an unprofessional act. For example, if he threw a glass bottle into the stands, it PROBABLY wouldn't hit anybody, but would that make it OK if it didn't hit anybody, and not OK if it did? Of course not. Same here.

Busta was game today though. Down 4-5 and 0-40, saved 3 set points then came back to break Djokovic in the very next game. Djokovic was getting agitated and spilling errors at that point and going for desperation dropshots. Even falling to the ground after a passing winner from Busta.
From what I saw, any of Thiem, Medvedev or Zverev could've beaten Djokovic.
Quite possibly Djokovic was getting mentally and physically tired at this point. Definitely didn't look like Slam winning form. Just had a weak draw is all.

Grown adults don’t just shy away when they make catastrophic mistakes, they own up and apologise. This just shows how immature and petulant he is.

Back in November 2016, Djokovic was questioned by a journalist about his temper after his ATP World Tour Finals victory over Dominic Thiem. The world number one was warned for unsportsmanlike conduct when he smashed the ball in the direction of his box.
The journalist asked: "Does it concern you one day that will cost you dearly? If you hit someone.
Djokovic: "You guys are unbelievable. You’re always picking these kind of things. I'm the only player that shows his frustration on the court? That’s what you are saying?
"It’s not an issue for me. It’s not the first time I did it."
It was then suggested he could have hit a spectator, to which the player replied: "It could have been, yes. It could have snowed in the O2 Arena as well, but it didn't."

Disagree - shapo hit the ball so hard it was destined for the moon. Tsitsipas smashes racket against his dad and he plays on. This incident was clearly an accident and not even hit hard - worst decision I’ve seen in this sport
