Avatar worthy.

This is actually a bit of tricky one

A 23 Slam record is probably going to be broken in the next 20-30 years, but the CYGS would stand for another 50

As long as Clay exists Nadal is the favorite. Nadal will be smarter next year and lighten the clay schedule/load and ensure he peaks and has enough in the tank to win another french or two. Even if Nole wins g 21, its not safe

I agree. The CYGS would be such an accomplishment that it blows doors off anything Rafa can do at age 35. The OGM is meaningless in the scheme of things, the CYGS is the Everest of tennis.
But the Golden Slam of course includes the CYGS, so it’s the icing on the cake. With the Golden Slam he would achieve something no man ever did, and which was only matched by Steffi Graf. It’s not “Budge, Laver twice and Djokovic” then, but “only Djokovic”.

Again disagree. If Nadal is still playing at 40 obviously he won't still be the favourite at RG. Maybe he can come back stronger again and yes, he will probably be gearing everything around RG 22, similar to Federer at Wimbledon this year (but we know how that turned out...). But his powers do appear to be fading and hard to see how he can be a stronger force in another couple of years than he is now. One more RG is a realistic target but 2023 when he's 37 is surely going to be a step too far.

The second Novak wins the CYGS, its value will evaporate. Winning a major title 13+ times or winning 5 consecutive titles in at least two majors instantly becomes the new holy grail.

I choose more major titles over CYGS.

Does anyone know if StrongRule is okay? He could have committed suicide by now and I'm not being facetious.

You think he'd be ready to hurt himself for a guy he's never met in his life just because he likes him as a player ? Nah, StrongRule's a strange bird but he doesn't appear to be mentally ill.

He said he is taking a break from ttw because he's tired of Djoko winning everything

Not just a break, he decided to leave for good and even quit watching tennis. A bit extreme but StrongRule has always been extreme about everything.

I'm not a psychiatrist, but I had never seen that level of handwringing from anyone ever and it required a level of rationalization that was approaching mental illness.

Golden CYGS means you have had an amazing year and an unprecedented 12 months of dominance.
But greatness means looking at the entire career not just the peaks and troughs.
If Nadal finished his career 3 slams ahead of Djokovic with Olympic Gold at Roland Garros in 2024 ....
^^^ I’m on this train. Can’t give up 2 slams just for a golden slam. It represents an amazing YEAR of domination but careers are about career stats

I was under the impression he was superstitious and thought acting like that would help Nadal be more successful, like a necessary ritual for the formula leading to Nadal winning. There are a lot of people who believe what they say, do or feel can have a bearing on totally unrelated events. But even if it's not that, I'd say it's just a pessimistic fan who has no faith in his favorite player, or a bored troll who wanted to get on people's nerves (but unlikely).

Being Slam King is your safest bet.

Calendar slam is the ultimate achievement in tennis. Ideally the true goat would have that on his resume, otherwise we have to make excuses. Margaret Court would not be quite as legit if she didn’t have calendar slam to go with her slam queen status.

Wrong train buddy better get off. Maureen Connolly would never be mentioned if she didn’t win calendar slam. Now she’ll be talked about forever in goat class. Calendar slam = ‘game over’ chip.

Why has the bar been set at 23? Aim for the stars and you'll hit the moon! 27 please mr novak!

I figured any higher number would have rendered the debate pointless at it would have been too one sided. I doubt anybody would pick the first option over 24+ slams.
