Here are the stats from the stretch , 5-3 federer to 5-7,1-5 federer ( when djokovic won 9/10 games)

Aces : Djokovic = 5, Federer = 2
DFs : Djokovic = 2, Federer = 0

FHWs: Djokovic = 4, Federer = 0
BHWs : Djokovic = 4, Federer = 3

1 FHV from federer
no BHV from either

FH UEs : Djokovic = 1, Federer = 9
BH UEs : Djokovic = 4, Federer = 5

FH FEs : Djokovic = 4, Federer = 8
BH FEs : Djokovic = 2, Federer = 3

OH : Djokovic = 0, Federer = 2

Net points : Djokovic = 3/5, Federer = 4/5

Unreturned serves :
1st serve : Djokovic = 4, Federer = 3

BPs chances : Djokovic = 4/5, Federer = 0/0

So in summary:

Now for some subjective comments:

1. Djoko was excellent on the serve, coming up with goods on the big points with well placed serves. You can nearly neglect those 6 DFs, none of those came at crucial moments.
2. Djoko was excellent on the return, putting pressure on the federer serve.
3. Djoko was pretty good from the ground, but made some unexpected unforced errors as well.

4. Federer was pretty passive from the ground in the majority of the match. there were some good shots, but too sporadic.
5. The main reason for above was that his FH was not clicking. Especially, have a look at the above stretch where he essentially lost the match (5-3 to 5-7,1-5 ): 0 winners from the forehand to 9 unforced errors.

6. So federer had 14 winners+errors forced from djokovic to 14 UEs in this stretch, which is pretty bad on any HC ( even for CC from what I've seen )

Djokovic had a jump in performance in this stretch compared to the other parts of this match and he got all 4 of his breaks in this stretch.

7. 2 of the 4 breaks that djokovic got were mainly from federer UEs, only the last one was a game full of winners from djoko, one was half federer's fault and half djokovic's credit.

8. Commentators mentioned federer being half a step slower, being pretty passive and sweating more than usual. ( due to the effects of light strain of mono that he was suffering from at that time - which they did not know at that time , of course)

9. Federer was especially a bit slow in moving to the right ( to his FH side )

10. Federer hit a stunning BH inside out in the final set TB to make it 3-1, but then had 3 easy misses on the FH to lose it 5-7 ...Novak did come up with a couple of well placed serves to get the other points though.

To sum it up, great match from djokovic, not up to his 2011 or 2016 match vs federer, but still very good

From federer's side, it was the beginning of his decline from peak (after a great YEC in 2007 end) , thanks to mono ...he'd go on to have a crappy season in non-slam events in 08 having many unexpected losses ...and slam performances not up to his peak level either ( esp. AO and RG , not even close)

Comparison with official stats :

1. The aces, DFs , the total points won and break point chances won match with the official ones.

2. The winners however don't.

I have djokovic at 41 winners, they have him at 50 ...really !?

I have federer at 35 winners, they have him at 38

3. UEs of course don't tally ( they rarely do ), but still fairly close
I have djokovic with 30 UEs, they have him at 32 UEs.
I have federer with 33 UEs, they have him at 32 UEs.

Rod Laver

Professional
Close match for a 3 setter. I remember watching it and Federer didn't play a bad match. Djokovic was very clutch.

FYI krosero did a thread on this match

Just saw that now :
https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/ind...s-final-djokovic-tsonga-nadal-federer.204257/

in any case, I wanted a statistical picture of that stretch from 5-3 in the 1st to 1-5 in the 2nd set.

Comparing with Krosero's stats,

the winners apart from service winners almost match.

I have one BH winner more for djoko ( it was not a clean one, federer barely got his racquet to it).

The rest of the stats match : FH winners, FHV, BHV, overheads, aces, DFs, unreturned serves.

the only major discrepancy comes in the service winners part. I only have them both at 1 each, both in the 3rd set.

I put it down as a service winner if the returner has barely got a racquet on it. I'm not sure what definition exactly @krosero is using.
