Djokovic Fires Team!

The only positive is that, as I already said, there is now only Pepe left to blame.
Was thinking the exact same thing. I said that I HOPE Djokovic loses in the first round in the next 5 big tournaments, to drum some sense into him.

But Guru's don't go down that easy. They will sabotage their bretheren, going down.

Like we all had predicted, Pepe and his brother are his team now.

My question is, where is his hard headed father in all this ? You would of assumed that his father would of told everybody, including wife, brother, Pepe to take a hike, and leave Nole alone. Wht hasn't he ?

Djokovic will retire by the end of the year. He should anyway.

What a waste. What a bad stigma on his legacy. He will be a laughing stock by the end of all this.

I am so dissapointed, as a fan.
I too have thought of what Novak's parents think of how this Pepe has taken mental control of their 2 sons. I can't imagine they are happy with this situation. I know I am not.

I hope he makes it to QF and 4 R and lose to Fedal and Kyrgios . He should believe he is making progress

Pepe is really rolling in the dough ... whatever Djokovic is paying him for guidance, Roger and Rafa have an agreement to double it. So far, Murray has proven intransigent as the good-natured pair sent a spiritual emissary to visit him in Scotland (the toughest selling point is that Andy wouldn't be able to scream obscenities at him from the court mid-match).

I'm guessing they know at this point they need to keep their mouths shut or risk losing their place in Novak's life.

What I'm concerned about is how Novak will eventually break with Pepe. Will it be something to do with his own children?

I would put my hand on fire, and bet that the Djokovic's aspouse to the anti vaxination movement.

Maybe Djok will finally lose it when his wife tells him "Pepe says we should let the children pick their genders"?

Anyway...looking at the website drives the 'cult' angle home even further. The language they use...

"Team of Coaches" page:

"BARRY
Honourable and sincere, he has a wonderful way with people. His path started 12 years ago, under Pepe’s guidance."

"MARKO
The former Tennis Pro brings a lot of experience to the table - mostly his own but also through his brother Novak. He has been a part of Pepe Imaz’s team for 4 years now, and is faithful to his special way of understanding tennis and life."

"DAVID
His road to transformation started some 3 years ago."

I think the same thing you do, that this will be looked back on as one of the biggest and most senseless self-destructions in sports. Only 3 Slams from chasing down Fed and forcing the GOAT conversation once more, the guy throws it all away to become a Care Bear.

Time has told quite a lot, and we've seen quite a lot. Djok is driving around in Pepe's Smart Car, having him around constantly, and has fired everyone who was dedicated to his tennis game...which has gone in the crapper. It looks bizarre and kooky to everyone but you, I just wonder what would be enough evidence to convince you at this point?

He's fired everyone in his team because he hasn't won a relevant thing since the FO 2016! Great players who don't achieve results fire their coaches and team members. That's what they do and should do! Plus, Djokovic has always been an odd duck with his choices, i.e. the creepy doctor he had in his camp in 2011, the egg, the "diet", etc. Djokovic has Pepe in his team (and I think Pepe has been around for quite a long while even when Djokovic was winning) and the forum explodes saying Pepe has brainwashed Djokovic and the wife is an evil monster.

Look, I am not a Djokovic fan. I hope you are right and he loses every match he ever plays for the rest of his career and implodes but IMO I think people need to give him time and see if he sorts himself out because if he's still motivated (the big if in this equation) it's possible. I have a feeling he will hire a super coach.

The BS gossip I've read about Djokovic on this forum is hysterical and most of it is coming from his "fans." These fans are imbeciles IMO blaming the wife, the guru, everybody but Djokovic. Djokovic is the man responsible for this downfall(and Father Time to an extent) and nobody else at the end of the day and he will be the one responsible if he manages any sort of comeback. In the meantime, I'll keep my fingers crossed that you are right and he's lost his marbles and he's done! :D

This could be a good thing for Nole. There was disharmony in his team, and he took drastic measures to remove it.

What's this disharmony? I may not follow him closely enough... but Becker got his pink slip months ago. What discord was there on the remaining team? Djok's conflicts have been largely internal, no?

Novak to Pepe: "Well Pepe, I lost to Goffin"
Pepe to Novak: "Did you give him a long hug on the Changeover like I told you to?"
Novak to Pepe: "I did not. Marian, my coach who has been with me for all 12 of my Grandslam titles, and my 223 Weeks at World # 1, said that hugging on changeovers is stupid."
Pepe to Novak: "Listen to me Novak. I have a 3-6 Career singles record. That means I won 33.33% of all 9 of the matches I ever played, THATS THREE WHOLE MATCHES! Remember, you asked me to come out here, I could be at my academy teaching competitive juniors how to spoon and meditate during matches."
Novak to Pepe: "Ok Ok, what do you think I should do then?"
Pepe to Novak: Novak, Marian is creating disharmony in your team. Your team needs my Amor Y Paz, my Love and Peace, you need to let me put my Amor and my Paz inside you Novak. You need to let Marian go, and Let me in Novak. Novak, give me control, Let me control you. Give yourself to me Novak."

A voice of reason

People forget, Pepe has been on the scene for roughly 3 years

That includes the time period when he was with Becker and shredding the tour

But , several things have happened in the meantime

Personal issues with the wife whatever they may have been which has culminated in a second pregnancy

Physical decline beginning

Perhaps some burnout/lack of desire and motivation

Given all that, it makes sense Djoker would switch up his camp

The man has been grinding on and off the court for a decade, maybe the old way the with Marian et all just wasn't working for him anymore

There is word he has a new physio he has been working with since last fall...maybe as a nod to a different approach with an aging player?

Becker helped add an extra dimension ...but at the same time,he achieved his ultimate goal which was the FO and career slam so....their time ran its course

The issue now for Djokervic isn't achievement..he's done it all...the issue now is motivation and finding a reason outside of money and pride to commit to the grind

So,I can see why he would part with the old team whom he compiled as a young hungry player

The focus and motivation is different now, not to mention he is older and more mature

It all makes sense

I know of NO ONE who has fired everyone after winning four majors in a row with the same guys. Not the same way he did it.

We won't know most of what is going on for some time. The truth always comes out gradually.

How can you say this man is not showing all the signs of someone blaming everyone in the world but himself for falling off a cliff?

Who says he is blaming ?

Also, etc...you act like Djoker isn't two in the world currently and hasn't won anything of note in years

The man won the FO and made the USO final after

I'm acting like so far he's having the worst year since he was very young. When you fire everyone you are saying that they are the problem.

I've always stuck up for the guy even though I don't like his tennis.

But not this time.

Nonsense

You act like you are related to the team he parted with

Is it written in stone players can't switch up their team?

I do not understand why people are so overly emotionally invested in what people they don't know from a whole in the ground do with their professional and private lives

And you're acting like you are personally related to Novak and have to stick up for what appears to most of us to be extremely weird behavior.

Hey, if he ends up tanking what was up to now an amazing career, I won't be crying over it. You obviously think it is just a set-back, and that he's going to be back again.

I don't.

We'll find out which of us is right in a year or two...

What "facts"?

How about the fact that Pepe has been apart of the team in some capacity for more than two years

Which kind of renders null all this knee jerk hand wringing about why Djoker's results have been less than

Or how about the fact that Djoker is no longer a hungry up and coming player(as he was when he first assembled his team), but a guy who has spent a.decade grinding off and on the court, who has achieved damn near everything possible and also who is older and.facing physical decline

The things that applied when one is 20 do not when one is damn near 30

Meanwhile, you are apopleptic about players making changes even when presented with scenarios of why those changes could be valid

Also, me confronting Bart on his bs positions and ludicrous statements is not the same as wanting Sharapova to burn

But given your statements on the topic of Djoker im not suprised you cant grasp nuance

Its older and there are still physical changes

And then combine that with the mental side....
30 is older than what?

Older than 29?

Most of us agree that winning gets much harder when players approach 30. If you think that's all there is to it, fine. The rest of us think firing his whole team is very bizarre, and the quick split with Becker happened very quickly.

You are obviously in the minority.

Fair enough, but if you had to make a bet, would you bet for or against these changes in terms of them having a positive impact on his tennis?

Here's the deal...is there room to be skeptical about his tennis decisions on face value alone? Absolutely

Is there room to be open to his changes given his career trajectory and factors like wanting to change approaches given physical changes, possible burn out, mental approach? Yes
