When you have the slam record

The masters record

Share the WTF record

Have the weeks at number 1 record

The YE1 record

The technical response to any subsequent losses is “who gives a rodent’s behind”

Gabe you're a tad behind the times ;)
I'm pretty sure he is the sole WTF record holder as of November

No, he just got punished by sinner with his brutal and powerful baseline game. Djokovic knows he has a sinner problem. He didn't even have his usual anger outbursts on court in this match,as he felt the inevitability of facing sinner.

As someone said on another thread, if not for sinner he would have won the Australian open. He'd have S&V'ed to a title in straight sets over med like at the uso, and we would be talking how he can win with an injured wrist.

Yup. Big hitting is the way to beat metronomic pushers like Djokodal. Gotta zone like Rosol, Sod, DelPo and keep the ball in.

Terribly disappointed. I thought Novak had all the key tournament records except one. Turns out I was wrong, he had them all.

How will I live with my disappointment?!

 ;)

All of your posts/reactions after Djokovic's loss say it all. Come on man, it doesn't take psychic to know, especially from a die-hard Djoker fan like you

Wait, I was told in 2021 he didn’t play enough matches going into the 2-1 Open. And the same thing with RG 2022. Now he played too much?
You were told?

What you can't think for yourself?

This is no law school and we are not making excuses

Every Nolefam is pissed for him playing united cup and exho

This is hilarious considering you guys use the *insert* ex player said this therefore it must be true argument all the time. And that’s the point of my post. I was actually making fun of the Bot Brigade’s hypocrisy when it comes to not thinking for themselves.

Also by saying that he shouldn’t have played the United Cup and the exho matches you’re making an excuse for how he performed in the AO.

And I must

It was pathetic. He said so himself. Worst slam performance of his life.

Nolefams don't be ashamed and bullied by these members. He didn't play well you all know it. Be open.

Davis Cup was his undoing. He should have rested in that period. Saudi exho too was unnecessary.
Davis cup was very important for him. He played almost all ties. But the United cup and exho were really the low points. He didn't just play singles, he was playing mixed too and maybe doubles. I think he is going to repeat the exact same mistakes of Olympics 2021. If without him Serbia won't win, then he shouldn't try. He is going for way too much at this age.

Its completely ok to make excuse after last performance.
Not every time.

But this time its okay.

The Olympics is after Wimbledon, right ?

I think that is a good thing. If it was before W then it would be much worse.

Nah, I’ve seen several members of the Bot Brigade call RAFANS the Excuse Brigade when we bring up context for losses. If you can dish it out you have to be willing to take it when it’s served back.

OP, I think you got this thread idea from a post of mine in another thread. Lol. I do think he overplayed after the ATP Finals but it's not the sole reason for his loss. Sinner played amazing this tournament and it was his time. Have to remember, Djokovic and Sinner played a lights out high quality match in the RR of the ATP Finals which Sinner won. It was very close but he won. This showed Sinner can go toe to toe with him right now, and Djokovic must be at his best to beat him. He wasn't at his best this tournament but it's impossible to do that everytime, especially at 36. Have to just congratulate Sinner and move on to the next Slam.

lol, I only speak for myself and have been very clear. I did not expect Novak would end up with all the key records and win the slam race. That was never an option when I became a fan. Yet he did. It’s all gravy from now on (well, since RG23).

Not your post, I was telling this in December itself. I had a thread as well asking if he is overplaying or not during Saudi exho. The DC and exho seemed weird to me, a 36 yr old who won so much should have been resting 2 months before Jan.

Ok fair enough. Yea I agree with what you're saying about him overplaying. I felt he did and said that in a private chat at the time, iirc. I just don't think he should be playing DC at the end of the year after a great season at his age but it is what it is. He felt it was worth it, so as his fan I have to accept his decision even if I don't see the same importance in it.

Man who really cares. He won 7 of the last 10 slams he played in. 3 slam season last year at 36 years of age. He has 24 grand slam titles. He ain't gonna win every event he participates in.
Well it kinda depends on the future. Could have cost him the slam record if Nadal comes back playing well. Further down the line it coud affect his standing compared to sinner and alcaraz if say they both got 20 plus majors and had a titanic rivalry. Had he beat alcaraz at wimbledon as he should have done and won AO as perhas he should have done had he played better there would be no discussions to be had. So its a bad ,oss, but as he said its just the start of the season so he can rectify things. 3 slams and olympics left.

He is lucky no serious injuries have come till now. Let's see how this year pans out, the Olympics worries me. It is an unproductive thing which serves as bad omen every single time. 2012, 2016, 2021...

I don't think the Olympics is that important honestly. It's a bonus in my opinion. He has everything that matters. Best believe he will play it though since he puts playing for country very high on his list. With that said, all those years were pretty good seasons so not all that bad to be honest.

He should have skipped Olympics and play Cincy in 2021, lol. Treated the CYGS goal like nothing. It's not the first time.
Sorry but saying he should have skipped olympics or criticising him for not skipping is one of the dumbest thing i have ever heard of for years from many people...
It can be less important for you, me or anyone but the guy simply wants to play&win olympics. And its perfectly reasonable, doesn't sacrifice anything either. Easily can put many reasons behind it.

He is playing slams every time at Djokovic's age in 2021 that could be the last olympics he had ever played(also with his form). He wants to win for his country and himself.
In Wimbledon he wasn't even tired Olympics was on HC too. Don't think he lost USO due to playing olympics anyway. Maybe due to the Zverev match.

He skipped both Cincy and Canada, so he came underprepared in USO, not tired. He skipped them because of the Olympics disappointment.

And please spare me with "dumbest thing I have heard in years". He wasn't playing for a grand Slam, he was playing for the CYGS. At the very least should have played both Olympics and Cincy.

True that. All those sparring with youngsters in useless tournaments he failed to see that he is over playing himself and also bridging the gap between him and them.. His body has given him a sharp warning with this defeat. Federer, Nadal got career ending injuries as a result of over playing, Novak is still in better shape but he seem to be arrogant enough to take it for granted by playing silly tourneys with ppl who are 15 years younger and rapidly getting better every day... The hubris to play all those, I had a feeling last year that he would have to face consequences soon....
Wow! So much wisdom and life experience you have. You must have many grand slam titles and Masters trophies sitting in your cabinet! :D

If Nole prioritizes the Olympics and opts for both single and double again, it is almost guaranteed to be a year with no Slam and no gold.

I don't think it's because of the Davis Cup and the United Cup. He looked good in his last 3 matches before the Sinner match. It is difficult to explain the collapse that happened to him. I watched him being interviewed at Eurosport, the interviewer said and laughed that when he reached the semis at AO, he won the title. Perhaps he was too confident in himself because of these conversations.

My response was in general against the idea people who say this, not directly to you. Maybe i didn't adress this better. Also meant for few years hearing this. Anyway was nothing personal sorry, it just makes no sense to me.

Also who knows maybe he would overpush it like Nadal in 2008? Even if it for CYGS his satisfaction is as important too. And i'm sure he didn't think as 'if i play olympics it will lower my chances'.

If you mean by his behaviour in olympics, affecting him mentally it's different but it's his mistake.

He thinks he can go toe to toe with everyone the whole year at age 36-37 without resting......

Like a big fool he played post the ATP Finals with Sinner and Alcaraz forgetting that they are 14-16 years younger to him.

Has he learned his lesson? I guess not...

Now he is going after some lame Olympic medal ....I am sure he ain't winning any Olympics and there is a chance he might ruin his chances at other slams too....
His stubbornness has won him some (that he shouldn't have won) and cost him some (that he should have won) throughout his career. This is who he is and will not change.

Usually he gets better as he plays more with a new player because of his ROS. It worked against him this time. One, he was mentally flat. It is not unlike an addict, a GS title can hardly get him "high" anymore after so many wins. Nadal is usually more motivated because of his off time due to injury and that his big wins are further apart. Two, Sinner is another great returner and benefits from playing with Novak more than the other way around.

Probably playing Davis cup and United Cup was a wrong move, exhibition with Alcaraz was fine by me. Still one major semi isn't a downfall, more his body telling him to slow down a bit. We will see the reality after Wimbledon, both for Rafa and Novak.
That's my time window too. RG will be part of the comeback process but not peak. This is probably not something he can just shake off in a month.

While nolefams are not. He lost in Wimby finals. It happens. We don't need to create theories.

Tennis has evolved beyond Djokovic. His tennis is obsolete now.
NONSENSE! Sinner and most of the other top players play a game very similar to Novak's. He should not have played the United Cup, for sure as I believe his wrist was giving him problems, then he caught some sort of cold. Whatever, NO great player wins all the time, especially at Novak's age.

He has said that playing for his country and slams are his two priorities, so you can argue that the Davis Cup and United Cup both being in such close proximity is not doing him any favours (both of them existing is not doing any of us any favours), but if he's going to skip stuff then it's more likely to be 1000s by playing the injury card than these events.

Nobody claimed he was the GOAT of overcoming the external factors of nature.

He's the GOAT for his pure tennis skills, and that's how he managed to dominate his rivals and win on all surfaces more than anyone else.

Playing in heat or wind seems like tennis skills to me.

For the greatest returner against big servers, his break serve percentage magic has fallen off cliff at a rapid rate in this tournament.
- After his 0 of 15 start on break points, Djokovic was four of six in the final two sets against Fritz.
- He had "0" break points in the entire Sinner match.

It's age related and he complained about the sun in his on-court interview with Nick.
