Djokovic has an endurance problem!

What a difference between the lethargic Novak of the first set and the one after it.

Still wasn't enough to pull the win.

Had he put the pressure on Thiem from the first point of the match, he could have won this: Thiem was starting to break down on his BH side.
Thiem is excellent offensively but not so good defensively. What a smart choice to mostly rely on Thiem's UEs by Nole.

I think Novak might be somebody who needs energy from a crowd to operate at his best. He has seemed to lack fitness/energy during some of these matches, but he was very strong physically in the 5th set against Tsitsipas at Roland Garros, where there were about 1000 people in attendance. It looked like he was fresh enough to go on for a couple more hours. He also looked energetic in his match against Schwartzman in Rome, where there was some crowd.

He's not as reliant on crowd energy as somebody like Monfils, who can't even win a set in these empty venues, but I do think it makes a difference for him in matches against top players. That isn't to say he would've won these matches with a crowd, but I don't think he has an endurance problem.

Novak is frustrated by the whole covid situation, more than most players. All these measures must be driving him crazy. Of course he has no endurance problem because he tested positive. That's just fear propaganda driven nonsense.

Exactly! He's just got 10% worse in the same time frame. Conspiracy theorists are everywhere.

10% worse than what? He barely beat Thiem at his pet slam in 5, looking absolutely dead at times (took MTO for dehydration). Since testing positive, he won 2 out of 3 Masters tournaments and reached final of the most exhausting slam (better than when he was "healthy" last year). Looked absolutely lethal in USO before getting DQ-ed.

I would think twice before using that word. He lost a set to edmund and was struggling against PCB who he should have dismantled easily if he was lethal.

He was hitting with massive power and serving really good against Busta. But Busta played excellent as well. Novak got angry and it messed him up in that set. I'm sure he would've won if he wasn't DQ-ed. He also played pretty good against Edmund and Edmund played out of his mind before running out of steam. It's not unusual for Novak to lose few sets in a slam.

He was fantastic at the ATP cup. At one stage he was talking about going unbeaten for the whole (weird) year.
Also Thiem has now been top-10 for at least 4 years. Playing in his third slam final. Hardly a mug.
I'm more inclined to think it's age. However if Dimitrov has said that he thinks he's suffering from long-covid symptoms, then I don't think that it's impossible that the same has happened to Novak.
Also at this stage if it's just something that is lurking in the back of Novak's mind and his opponents, then it might be enough to make a difference.

Dimitrov was back to playing exhibitions after 2 weeks. I watched many of his matches since he came back and fitness was not his problem. Head was.

Ever since Covid Cup in Serbia.

Doesn't always manifest itself very noticeably, but it is present.

That's what plagued Nadal in 2015, which is why it was such a horrendous year for him.

Stamina is a very important part of both's game and provides them their mental edge, more so with Nadal, against other players. Without it, they will give up on matches they are not winning easily.

Djokovic betta recovery by next year!
He hasn’t recovered 100% from Covid?

Well, Grigor doesn't agree.

There's also many stories about the effects of long covid in the press. But they're obviously all lies from the MSM and their stooges in medicine and research.
