Djokovic has had a poor year only five ATP Tour titles.

Despite what Novak Djokovic fans say his 2013 is actually a poor year. Djokovic is 1-2 in grand slams he has not won a grand slam outside of Australia in two years. Novak's US OPEN record in finals is horrific he's 1-4 which is just terrible.

People will talk about Novak's consistency and yes he's consistent. However, when Novak gets to the grand slam finals this year he's been POOR.

The US OPEN final against Nadal, I have never seen Novak choke so badly he fought so hard to win the second set goes up 2-0 in the third YET blows it!

And he's done that a lot this year losing his concentration having strange losses to players like Tommy Haas and John Isner.

He also blew the Wimbledon final against Andy Murray he just could not bring it when it mattered. Novak choked the French Open semifinals against Nadal up 4-2 in the fifth set but found a way to lose that one too.

Yes, Novak is consistent just like Ivan Lendl was but he also has a poor grand slam final record like Lendl he's 6-6 not good for a tennis champion. The worst part is Novak is dominant in Australia but the Australian Open is the LEAST important of the four grand slams.

In addition, Novak's only won 5 ATP tour titles this year that's TERRIBLE for a player that was once ranked number one.

That's pretty harsh.

Granted he put himself into a position where he could have won more but he's still the world number 2 by a wide margin, whether you look at the race or the 52-week rankings.

I'm also of the belief Nadal does not believe he can lose at the FO, and whenever any player is up on him there, Nadal gets to a different level, one only he can play at, coupled with his opponents tightening the stick because they know this as well. It's not a choke if you put it in context.

5 titles including a slam is a good year, no matter how you look at it. The fact he lost finals is testament to the fact he dominates, just not the very top players.

I'm not even a Djokovic fan, in fact I dislike him more than I like him, but he's a damned good player and Nadal, Murray, and others, know they have to play their best to beat him.

P. S. Huge Federer fan here, but he'll have to earn his way back into the conversation. There's no big 4 anymore.

Good year, and has a chance to add further titles.

I expect a tennis war at the WTFinals.

The Australian Open is the basement of the grand slams it is the LEAST important out of the four. Novak did not have a great year because he only won 1 slam instead of two. If Novak had won Wimbledon or the US OPEN he definitely would have had a better year.

People make excuses but in the big matches in the slam semifinals and finals Novak has fizzled.

He hasn't won a slam outside of Australia in two years he's 1-4 at the US OPEN in finals that's terrible. Novak Djokovic is the modern Ivan Lendl he will make a lot of slam finals and probably lose a lot too.

This post made me laugh out loud. :)

'Novak did not have a great year because he only won 1 slam instead of two.'

You said he had a poor year, nobody really answered you with regards to whether Novak's year was 'great' or just merely 'good' or 'OK'.

But the true gold lies here: 'If Novak had won Wimbledon or the US OPEN he definitely would have had a better year.'

Now I'm guessing you mean INSTEAD of the AO but at first it came across as meaning, as well as. Either way, no shizzle Sherlock!!

Why ? Do you expect him to win 10 big tournaments a year ? Get a grip dude.
A GS and 2 Masters 1000 etc is a great year, for Djoker, Rafa or Fed's standards. You are such a pessimist. It's like a reincarnation of Chico.........

Ironically, the AO is the hardest Slam to win. Everyone is fit, everyone is fresh and ready to go and everyone is capable of playing on a hard court. Look at the matches Djokovic had to win in the last 3 years to succeed.

2011: Stan, Federer, Murray
2012: Ferrer, Murray, Nadal
2013: Berdych, Ferrer, Murray

Finals drag out knock down fistfights.
Only old farts don't give the AO its props.
Players absolutely love the AO.

The Australian Open is not the "basement" of Grand Slam tennis. Wimbledon has an antique surface, the U.S. Open is the worst rn of the slams, and the French Open caters to one-dimensional players more than any other slam. The Australian has a neutral surface, it is very well-organized, and forcing the other three majors to change their ways as well to keep up. All four have their own charms I suppose but it is a Grand Slam and one that will continue to rise in value over the years.

Lol trolling of the century! If 2013 was a poor year for Djoko, then it's been a disastrous year for anyone not named Nadal. Djoko ends up 2nd in # of finals, # of titles and the most consistent player in slams (player with most points there- for the 3rd consecutive year I believe), not to mention the DC final. He is also currently the only player with Rafa to have won more than 1 master title this season.
As for AO, its current value is exactly the same as the other 3 slams. Long gone are the days when it was deemed a "sub-slam".
Not that it was a year without negatives indeed: he underperformed on his best surface in both IW/Miami and Canada/Cincy, lost 2 slam finals in a row and dropped the #1. Despite all that, 2013 is probably the 3rd best season of his career (after 2011 and 2012) with 1 slam title, 2 slam finals and a semi + more than 1 master title.
I would call it a year of "mitigated success". 5 titles (including 3 tier 1 events) doesn't qualify as "poor" (unless one is blinded by irrational Nole hatred, as the OP clearly is)

I wish I had poor years like Novak's.

I know, right? OP sounds like those people who used to rant about Roger when he would lose RG, to, you know, Rafa - but win pretty much everything else that year.

(And I don't have a problem with it -- I'm a FEDAL fan so I don't really have a dog in the fight, especially considering how many titles in 2011 Novak won I wish Rafa could have had (his 2010 Career Golden Slam I actually had a seat to see notwithstanding, LOL).)

Last week OP was mad about Milos not doing well ... and I think there's still a possibility he might qualify for WTF.

No what I EXPECT is a number one player to actually dominate and that's NOT what is happening with Djokovic.

Nadal is dominating and that's why he is rightfully number one he deserves it. Rafa only lost five times this year yet he won 10 titles and 2 out of the 4 slams.

Novak's only won 5 ATP tour titles and he won the least important slam this year the Australian Open. Anyway you slice it, I am sure Novak would prefer to win Wimbledon or the US OPEN this year over the Australian Open.

Djokovic isn't dominating he has a poor record in slam finals and he hasn't won a slam outside of Australia in two years.

The Australian Open is indeed the basement of the grand slams. I am sure people who are not tennis fans don't even know the Australian Open exists. However, I am sure people who are not tennis fans who about Wimbledon.

Whatever...
AO= 2000 points, FO=2000 points, WIM=2000 points, US=2000 points. The rest is bla bla bullsh*t

I'd say Djokovic has had an okay year, not an outstanding one, but not a terrible one. It's been roughly on a par with his 2012 and with his 2008, so only 2011 was markedly better.

There's also still a slim chance that he'll be #1 at year's end. It's not likely but there is a danger to Nadal, especially as Nadal's not at all likely to win either Paris Bercy or the World Tour Finals.

You are a bandwagon jumper. You were all over Nole's jock right after the AO this year, salivating over him. You had the hots for him, no? What happened? He's uglier now that he hasn't won as often?
