All the players ranked below Hewitt COMBINED have on the weeks at number one list.

Edberg + Courier + Kuerten + Murray + Nastase + Alcaraz + Wilander + Medvedev + Roddick + Becker + Safin + Newcombe + Ferrero + Muster + Rios + Kafelnikov + Moya + Rafter = 397 weeks

Also the gap between Djokovic and his greatest rival is wider than all of Hewitt's career

Hewitt = 2 slams, 2 masters, 2 YEC, 2 YE1, 80 weeks at number one

Tennis has changed a lot over the years. Previously there were champions who stayed at the top for a long time. Like Connors McEnroe Lendl.

By the time of Lendl's arrival many great players reached number 1 but they couldn't get higher due to extreme competition.

Then Pete won the title in 94 but he had dominated the field so much that by the time he declined ATP created a huge weak era.

That's where these champions come from. In 80s strong era and post 97 weakest era.

Federer came to top ranking in February 2004 and we went back to pre lendl era. Lesser competition and lesser weak eras.

Very Strong era, 1985 to 1992.
Strong era 1993 to 1997.
Strong era 2007 to 2019
Strong era 2.0 1975 to 1984.

Weak era 2020 to 2023
Weak era 2004 to 2006
Weakest era 1998 to 2003.

So Nole's record has some context behind it. He has played in strong era but not the strongest and also he has played in weak era but also not the weakest.

Yes, say what you will about Djokovic. He just has not lost against guys he is supposed to beat in a long, long time. I think he will be #1 for perhaps 50 or 60 more weeks in his career, too - and that may be an underestimation. Amazing longevity and consistency. Seriously pathetic field this year, though, that has not managed to defeat him since Wimbledon. Yes, he's GREAT, but undefeated for half the year at 36?!?

Murray is part of strong era champions. So is Becker wilander and Edberg.

Agassi was part of strong era champions in 90s but overshadowed by Sampras.

Agassi feasted on weaker era as well. Federer Agassi and Nole all have feasted on it.

Welcome back Hitman! New user but enjoy reading your threads. Will you up the ante on earths mightiest warrior!?? LOL

Most of these players selected aren't even the tennis equivalent on the level of Anthony Joshua and Wayne Rooney. So that's everyone worse than Murray.

Can't help but thinking mad shade is being launched at Rooney. There's no way Joshua is on his level. :p

Had Nadal passed Hewitt as early as his 2nd slam RG 06?
Nah, why would he have? Same slams, no time at number one, no YEC - only thing in Nadal's favour was the number of masters titles. I guess you could argue Nadal peaked higher? But it's a hard sell with Hewitt better on grass, HC and indoors.

When do you think Nadal passed him?

I would say he passed him RG 07 with the 3rd slam. But RG 06 isn't totally inarguable but a bit a stretch maybe.
