Djokovic has never won Rome in his winning RG years

Probably somewhat of a coincidence due to Nadal, but Djokovic won Rome 6 times without a RG win. Why is this?
Even more interesting is that out of the 11 clay Masters titles, only one coincided with a RG win (2016 Madrid).
If Djokovic wins a clay Masters, 91% of the time he will not win RG, to put it in perspective.

Maybe he burns himself out in Rome too close to RG and that’s the reason why. Should consider skipping all clay season.

Just goes to show how difficult/special it is to pull off. Clay is the surface which has the longest rallies meaning you have to have one hell of a gas tank to pull it off. The fact that RAFA dominated it like no one else (or any surface for that matter) will probably be the most amazing record for me personally.

Madrid, RG, and Cincy trophies in the same year:

Federer 1 (2009)
Nadal 1 (2013)
Djokovic 0

Another proof that Fedal >> Djokovic in the GOAT race.

Exactly. The fact that he would win RG every year AFTER all the work he put in during the clay season is absolutely mind-boggling.

Nadal has won 1 RG + 2 Clay Masters in the same year a total of 9 times (05, 06, 07, 08, 10, 12, 13, 17, 18)
Muster has done it 1995 and Borg in 1974
Nobody else has done that, Djokovic would also have won it in 2011 but federer got a win in semis and ruined it, otherwise he had Nadal's number that year.
