Ken Rosewall won the Australian Open in 1972 aged 37, Djokovic was 36 and 3 months when he won the US Open in 2023. Rosewall is the oldest Male player to have won a slam in the Open Era.

In my opinion Djokovic winning another slam gets slimmer and slimmer, Djokovic's 2024 has been a signal of a decline, injury issues and motivational issues. In actuality it was the Davis Cup last year which began this decline. Novak doesn't like losing, he nearly called it quits in the first half of 2018 and was fed up when he lost to Cecchinato at the French Open, do you think he'll settle for 2nd best all the time? I doubt that.

Federer was the closest to becoming the oldest ever slam winner at Wimbledon 2019, if I recall he was close to being 38 at the time.

I think if he wanted to, he's capable of winning another slam but I question if the desire is still there. Didn't he say a couple of years ago that he wanted to keep playing to have another shot of Olympic gold? That was his goal and he has achieved that goal. He has nothing left to prove so I don't think he will win another slam, I think he's happy with everything he's achieved and now he can just relax career wise.

The only goal that probably is still worth anything to him is to tie Fed’s Wimby titles record (breaking it would require two which is probably not possible anymore , although never say never). Given his age, if he has to face Alcaraz or Sinner at Wimby the pressure on him to win will be huge and we already saw how he hasn’t played his best this year on the big stage, with the Olympics final being the exception. So I think it’s unlikely he will win another one but I think he will try once more at Wimby but he will need some stats to align to get the win.

Olympics showed his desire to win something that he hasn't, while time is still on his side, then he will win it. Even if he has to play Alcaraz to win it he will give it his all.

Desire and hunger is key and Djokovic compared to the rest of the Big 3, was always a completionist. There is literally nothing left to complete now. You become deflated.

If he wants #25 he's gonna have to mentally challenge himself that he's tied with Margaret court or some bs factor like that to motivate himself, basically not be happy about it. Ironically, the media can fire him up if they start making this comparison.

I was assured by his top fan lieutenants that golden bags would remain slam-competitive until at least age-40, and I'm choosing to believe in their expertise.

Speaking of Djokovic, I just saw on Facebook that Jelena is pregnant with twins. Has anyone heard of this? I hope it IS true.

Brain says no, heart says yes. Voted yes.

I think he’s just burnt at the moment. He has the fitness, health and the skill. However one more injury, maybe the twins thing, or just some discouraging results and then he will be done.

Agree that with the present day pro game, courts and equipment, the present field…he’s still competitive.

With every defeat by a young player however, the field will start to believe more that they can be the one to eat the lion king. And we have all seen how important the mental game is with these battles of attrition on the modern atp tour.

Very well said. He is stubborn enough to try and get another major but he really needs to apply himself.

Federer was 1 point away so never say never.

But the vicinity of age 37 definitely seems to be a turning point even for the very best

He'll be fine. Barring any serious injury I am confident he will win again. In the last 14 seasons he only failed to win a Slam in two of them, and on both occasions it was a combination of injury and deflation that cost him additional success. Going forward he would need his top game against only a select few to win, so for someone of his quality more title winning runs isn't something I would consider a surprise yet.

Nole is the only male player in tennis history to win double-digit slams in his 30s. He's already defied time, age and history.

He only has to go through seven Next Gen mugs. That shouldn't be too difficult for him.

Some Fed fans can't still accept that Novak is the GOAT and need to cope with "he's too old to win, so the competition must be trash" excuses.

Last time I checked, 21 years and 6 months old Federer had won 0 Slams and accumulated 0 weeks at #1, while Alcaraz has 4 Slams and 36 weeks at #1. 20 years old Federer was utterly unable to beat 31 years old Agassi at the USO 2001 (who unlike Novak who can still run, was moving like a zombie due to his back condition known as spondylolisthesis). In a transitional era where Agassi and Sampras were on their last legs (2001-2002), and Hewitt was dominating the field, Federer was unable to win a single Slam. Federer even beat Sampras at W 2001 only to lose to Tim Henman (?), while Alcaraz has beaten Novak back to back in Wimbledon finals. If Alcaraz is a mug, then Federer was the King of mugs at the same age than Carlos (21 years and 6 months old).

I think Novak overachieved in 2023. He was already physically on a decline, but he was resorting to his experiences and tactics to compete against younger guys + there were no younger guys who were good enough to challenge him other than Alcaraz at Wimby. Just watch those FO matches where he moonballed so much which I had never seen him doing.

There is nothing like overachieved this is stupid argument

Moonballs work on clay. You didn't see him do so much before doesn't mean it's bad.

I think it's mostly lack of motivation, he can still play at a very high level (Olympics), he just has nothing else to prove to anyone.

Although, he could want to pull off a Sampras and just play for that last Slam win, but that would definitely be it.

Federer wasn't losing to guys in their late 30s at 21.

Alcaraz did so in back to back matches.

And his era is filled with low quality mugs.

I can't think of one truly good player besides Djokovic and Alcaraz that are still playing.

And Djokovic is 37 years old.

Djokovic might still have some days where he looks as good as ever, but they get fewer and fewer in number as time goes on and it's harder to properly recover in time for the next match, therefore harder to be consistent. That's only going to happen more and more the older you get.

Federer in the 2015 Wimbledon semi final against Murray suddenly looked as good as 10 years earlier. It was a real throwback. He still lost the final to Djokovic.
