Djokovic: I play against the stadium 90 percent of the time, everyone can see that

It’s because most of crowd are Federer fanboys who are heartbroken after Nole beat him over and over in grand slams. W19 was final nail in coffin for Djokovic ever receiving fan support there.

Crowd were 50/50 in the W18 IIRC
How do you know they are not also Nadal fanboys or simply tennis fans that don't like him ?

The fact that Djokovic won 19 Slams and the only one in the Open Era to win a double career Slam all while playing against the crowd the majority of the time, makes his achievements even more outstanding and more impressive than either Federer or Nadal's. Most players would crumble in those circumstances. And it's done on purpose because they all know he will most likely end up on top and don't want him passing Fedal. For the ones in here criticizing and wondering why, well you can't expect for them to do this every match and expect for him to be on his best behavior like W 2019 and USO 2015, and others. They need to learn to show a little more respect.

Well said

Like I said in the nuked thread, these "fans" are superficial bandwagoners behaving precisely as they're supposed to behave against a not-so-media-friendly athlete. They really deserve none of the attention they get, though I do dig how Novak channeled Pistol at his most cocksure and flipped off the legion of lemmings while getting the job done like a GOAT.

Of course the Djokovic fanbase isn't without its share of bandwagoners, either. I mean there are several self-satisfied blowhards on this board alone who have deluded themselves into thinking they knew he was gonna be big from a mere eye test when it's obvious from their equally superficial blather that they never would've batted an eye without the media hype.

And like you said Novak has learned to use the lack of crowd support to his advantage. He should stick to ignoring these stooges and focus on winning to please no one but himself and his family and friends.

Mods, can we have 'Novak vs the crowd' thread? It's getting tiring at TTW about this topic everyday with Novak haters and supporters repeating the same thing again and again.

Please add all this crap to that thread so people can just jabbering over this endlessly

People get tired of seeing the same players win year after year. It's been 15 years already. The Big Three have had plenty of time in the spot light. You can't force fans to love you, or to cheer for you forever. Many fans are more than ready to cheer for a new show and not the same old reruns.

Djokovic is a whiny little *****, and when he retires, literally nobody from the tennis world will miss him. Good riddance, Djokerbitch
Everything is as simple as mind contemplating it.

Many fail to grasp that is how any cognitive ability can feel happy about itself.

Equity. We already have it. In subjective reality, the only way it can exist.

Djokovic very badly wants to sit on Federer's throne, well he might get the records but he won't become the bigger brand, it won't be that easy to dethrone the most popular Tennis player in history from his throne :D

Well you don't know Djokovic...so you don't know what he wants. What he says that he wants is the records and he will very likely get them because he's relentless...and when he does he will be in league of his own so why would he want to look down?

(1 Billion $ + Most Fans in the Tennis universe) is the record.

So yes, it is Federer who will be looking down on the likes of Djokovic.

The only #1's I can recall who habitually had the crowds against them were Lendl and Djokovic. Murray as well on occasion. Even Mac and Connors, two volatile players, had huge support outside of the US. Did these #1's have the crowds against them? No way:

Borg
Edberg
Becker
Agassi
Sampras
Wilander
Roddick
I didn’t say all. I was talking about women too.

Crowd knows whose records are inflated and whose aren't.

They always cheer the loudest for Federer because they know that he is the ultimate icon and the GOAT

He should not worry about what percentage of the crowd is supporting him or against him. He's a grown man, a champion and probably will the all-time slam winner. Behave like a grown man and not a cry baby, Act with some class for change. Raise your emotional IQ. Even when some idiots are being disruptive and heckling you. That's how to win over the crowd and fans.
I can't agree more. As a huge fan of Lendl, the *only* place where anyone cheered for him more than his opponent was in Asia or at the FO, depending upon his opponent. He didn't give one damn and embraced the villain role. Djokovic is the most unpopular #1 player ever and the fact he can't accept it after such a long career is baffling. Many detest him, why should he care? He's never going to be a popular and beloved champion like Fed (or Rafa). Just go out and win and rub it in the faces of the those who revile him.

Strange remarks by Djokovic. The British are not renowned for their softness and his comments will probably come across as spilt brat syndrome and make matters worse. Wimbledon is the most respectful crowd in tennis . It is hardly Ashe at night.
The longer Federer stays in the event the more erratic Djokovic is going to get with his behaviour. If Federer makes the final and now it is probably 50/50 he does Djokovic is going to not relish it one bit as he is the one behind in slam race plus after these comments will probably face hostility he would not otherwise have done as the British press would be posting his comments on the front pages to really stir things up.
Really do not understand the Djokovic mindset. So often he says stuff counter productive that comes back to haunt him. These comments as well as the allegations of what he actually shouted at the crowd are just not helpful to him at all. Surely his coaching staff advise him on things

Definitely not.
In my experience of watching tennis since the early 90's, I would definitely say the most respectful crowds were the German/Austrian ones during the indoor carpet season (Vienna, Stuttgart, Essen, YEC in Hannover). Even when German players were on court, they would still applaud opponent winners with almost the same energy. No jeering, no casuals shouting, just a perfect tournament atmosphere. I miss those tournaments.

One more example of Rafa laughing at hecklers... this was at AO after a match against DeMinaur when there was loud heckling from a few right behind the server.
'You drinked some tequilas or what?'
At one point where Rafa laughed the guy making constant noise had said, Hey Rafa give Alex a break, will ya?

Wimbledon crowd would not be at the level of the largely boorish crowd at USO '15 final, that's true. But to term it the best behaved crowd is really not true, either. There have been enough news articles commenting about the partisan and disrespectful nature of the crowd in 2019 final, I think it's time this fiction of a supremely genteel crowd is laid to rest. Being not as bad as an absolutely terrible crowd, doesn't give a crown for best deportment.

This is the prime example why Djokovic is the goat...Always playing against 2 and schooling Roger and Rafa in the process...

If Federer is Batman and Novak is the Joker then Wawrinka is Alfred.

Joker gets schooled by Alfred, imagine how horrible Joker really is

There is no excuse for crowd booing you.

When Nadal started playing the French Open even he was booed, but he remained humble and won over the Tennis world (who were highly pro Federer) and they started cheering for Nadal too.

Djokovic has never been able to win over ther audience, so thats his fault.

The French still dislike Nadal

@Sunny014 can I ask - Fed is in the 4th set with Norrie right now, and as a Fed fan, instead of watching the match you are here on the forum, on a thread about Novak, trying to repeatedly post about how Fed will always outstrip him in popularity and brand value??

Where are your priorities? What is your fandom about, really? Rooting for Fed, as it should be? Or cribbing with negativity about Novak at a time when Fed is playing live? I mean, I can't get this. :-)

Agreed. Yea and if you behave like that, at some point consider it lucky you only got one expletive hurled your way but I do agree with you and I said this privately, that I wish Djokovic would ignore them. They don't even deserve to be treated like they matter but I guess he has days when he just needs to let them have it and I guess yesterday was one of those days.

Novak is the Superman.

Superman doesnt get stretched to 5 sets by old granfathers on grass, neither does superman lose to wawrinka-moorey multiple times :D .... Superman also does not lose so many times to Nadal on clay, and superman definetly doesn't beaten by a same gen nadal on his own turf (USO which is a hard court)

Djokovic: I play against the stadium 90 percent of the time, everyone can see that

And I am about to finish it all by still using it.

All have been watching my skill of utilising it grow for 15+ years and no one ever not even jokingly suggested to stop it - because it is helping me win. And close to the end, it makes me admit facts as they are whether I like them or not.

We did it together.

TL;DR
With Djokovic it is never what. It is always why. We unterstood long ago why he maintains dislike for years already. Not all got it, though. Chances are they never will.

Simply mind boggling. Fed match going on live, and this Fed fan is more interested sledging Novak, than watching Feds match and rooting for him. Why this obsession with sledging Novak I just can't fathom. :)

Now post the one from ATP Cup where the crowd was loud and boisterous and Djokovic was getting way more support and let's see how Rafa handled it.

Superman also doesn't get owned by Dr Ivo Karlovic Serve's (1-3 h2h)

What a ****ing baby he is, best tennis player in the world, most likely will end with the most slams earning lots and lots of money. But wa wa people don't support me.

Give it a rest No vax (interesting that's censored as one word) Djokovic you'll never be as popular as Federer and Nadal, and this kind of whinging is partly why, get over it.
