Sad times for Serbian fans and Serbia at the Olympics but I hope he recovers and we see him at the US Open.

And some people kept telling me I know nothing about the sport and I was no one to question Novak's decision for playing both the singles and Doubles.

I don't want to have this kind of last laugh. But let's just say people ridiculed me a little too much.
Yeah you right. To be honest I was not totally comfortable with him going. This sort of situation was always likely to happen. I understand why he went but it was a big risk.

Over-playing ... and in the heat. Novak's hubris caught up with him!

Calm down.

We need to know precisely which match Djoker played "under pain, exhaustion and medication".

Djoker looked fine in the QF Singles vs. Nishikuri. Played a perfect match. And he looked fine in first set of SF Singles vs. Zverev.

Evidence points to injury rather than overplay.

Anyone who actually plays tennis knows Mixed is not as physically gruelling as singles. Not even close.

Bhai don't talk sense, I am really pissed, because of his Olympics fiasco he might not win us open, even I was saying not to play olympics

Zverev's victory was hollow. Now we know he beat an injured Djokovic (why else would he stop trying midway through the second set if he wasn't injured?).

I think he made a mistake entering the Mixed Doubles competition, to be honest.

With that being said, Djokovic is on his 4th straight day of competition, 3rd straight day of double duty singles/doubles matches, and would be going for his 7th hour of competition in 24 hours dating back to the Zverev match yesterday. All of this taking place in high heat and humidity as well.

This forum is being really brutal - and I get why as many dislike Djokovic, but let’s not go over the top.

Tennis’ greatest warrior could not finish Olympics. Not quite sure how that narrative works but hey ho.
He is easily the fittest player but this is more hyped by Fed and Rafa fans to prove that he has easy draw. I said clearly he didn't have easy in first two slam
At AO from 2 nd round to qf he played 14 hours means 3.5 hour Average per match with injury and then again in RG he played 16 hours for last four matches without single easy match, I don't think many players in history including many atg can survive this type of grueling back to back matches in slam

I suppose to take these kind of statements right after a loss at face value. He sounds like he was limping, half blind on crutches playing lefty through the matches, but the videos show otherwise - he was just fine, only got his behind whooped. I fear the injury is mental - not physical.
“Just fine” Djokovic doesn’t get his ass whooped by consecutively Zverev and PBC. What sport have you been watching for the last 10 years?

Still, he could not do it this week. He is human, not a warrior. This shows us that.

Therefore, he got that 'memo' about overconfidence. It was prompt and very likely - just in time.

Makes zero sense claiming either he did or he did not understand. USO21 will show clearly both - if he really got it and if it was in time.

Surely, lets hear everything about this and more. There is a lot of fun in doing it. Always is.

Honestly. Let’s be real. Novak was super overconfident and arrogant in how he approached this thing. The heat and humidity was brutal and he put himself on court for mixed doubles. Yeah, I get that doubles isn’t like playing a singles match but those extra serves and extra hours in the heat add up. Not to mention whatever practice time he was putting in with his teammate. Completely predictable result to a dumb decision by Novak. Even his teammates were telling him not to do it.

The format does not suit an older player. It is one of reasons Nadal did not play. It is the short recover time from one match to the next that is the issue. The Slams with their days off between matches allows that recover time. It’s not the first time he has over played and picked up an injury.

LOL....Even though his opponents were a joke he was steamrolliing through them under heavy medication?

These are mind games. He's trying to decrease the value of Zverev's win so that he doesn't get a mental edge over him in the future. Maybe he sees Zverev as a future threat although not sure why...after all he is a useless next gen mug that chokes in BO5

Many many players entered multiple events: Barty, Murray, Bencic, Karatsev,Kachanov,... And Djoker is fitter than anybody.Cruised through QF Singles vs Kei. Then suddenly something happened in the second set of SF vs Zed... It all points to some sudden injury.

Belinda Bencic is in the singles and doubles finals so you can't really blame the extra court time on his failure.

Murray only entered men's doubles. He withdrew from the singles.

Irrelevant. Murray planned to play two events. Even in his decrepit condition. Along with many many other players. And one of the fittest players in history cannot play Mixed?

He realised he wasn't fit enough to play singles after he got there and wisely decided to focus on the doubles instead. Plus you do realise that one of the fittest players in history has not been able to sustain that level since his multiple hip surgeries?

You make my point. Even Murray with his weak hip decided to play two events. Landed in hot and humid Tokyo. Did not immediately withdraw. Played a doubles match and withdrew the next day just hours before his singles match-- sustained a mild strain in doubles or else he would have continued...
