Djokovic is closer to Federer than Nadal is

Time will tell if Nadal can amass 4 more GS titles. Djokovic, at a year younger and with much less wear and tear on the body can get 6 more if he maintains his current level or something close. The way he is playing, it is hard to imagine him losing anytime soon, even on clay. He has won 3 of the last 4 and who can beat him on grass or a hard court, maybe Del Potro on a good day? He could easily win 3 this season.

Djokovic

15 Slams
5 YECs
5 YE #1
236+ weeks at number one

Nadal

17 Slams
0 YECs
4 YE #1
196 weeks at number one

Discuss.

U forgot 5 world tour finals and Nadal 0:laughing::laughing: He's already ahead with better distribution in slams and having won all masters series event. On top of that better head to head with Nadal.

And i do think he"s going to overtake most of fed's record.

Nadal is better on clay and Djokovic better on hard. On grass they are about even.

Peak Fed would trounce everyone on grass and hard. And if he was given the RF97 racquet, I could even see him winning a close contest against Nadal on clay. He did bagel Nadal in one set in one of the FO final encounters, after all.

It’s unfortunate they slowed W/USO down or Fed might be on 23-25 slams by now.

PEAK FED would beat anyone. No one has dominated the tour the way he did back in the day especially the 2005 and 2006 season.
173 wins for 9 losses including 4 to Nadal on clay. CRAZY

5 YECs, 40 and who knows how many more weeks at number one, one more YE #1, better distribution, better dominance, etc. are enough to put Djokovic ahead of Nadal.

That's terrible to have slown down the US open. In that case they should increase the speed of clay:p:p

That's what happened actually, homogenisation didn't only mean slowing down fast stuff but also speeding up clay, which I guess helped Fedovic there somewhat - the gulf between them and Nadal is just too big on the surface.

All I'm saying is it seems like some of you guys aren't letting this thing play out. If Rafa wins the French, then what?

He gets closer to roger and moves away the djoker on one hand.

On the other hand he increases his numbers of FO which makes him even more the king of clay and less of the other events which takes him in a way away from the goat discussion.

They made AO faster though in AO 2017-2019 the last 3 additions. AO 2014 used faster balls to.
USO and AO have switched so its fair.
If Wimbeldon slowed it still is fast enough to favour attacking players and is still one of the faster surfaces in the sport.

4 > 2 ¿Even on grass? Please.

Both are still slow. Hard courts used to go faster.

There's something to this. Rafa is the king of clay but never dominated off clay or back to back years. Roger and Novak are the leaders on grass and HC, and both had multi year dominances.

Roger is of course the GOAT, but Novak is the 2nd greatest OAT.

I guess you could say that since it's basically 100% certain that Nadal won't be winning 5 WTF titles while Djokovic at the moment seems like he's capable of catching Nadal's Slam count in the future. Then again, at the start of 2016 it seemed like Djokovic was going to get ahead of Rafa pretty quickly. Impossible to tell with these things so, on second thought, Nadal is ahead in the race to the top.

Even YEC are played on a small court. They should increase the speed of hard courts.
Depends on your perf. I am happy with today courts people just moan about the courts a lot. If you like quick strike tennis they you will be upest.

Remind us when "The Anti-Federer" last beat Federer?

I'll help you out, it was 5 years ago.

Rafa has not been able to dominate Djok/Fed since 2014.

What is it with some Djokovic fans wanting to butt in line? He's not the GOAT, he's not 2nd place, and he just slipped into 3rd ahead of PETE. Just stop it with the nonsense.

I can't agree. The only difference now is 2 Slams?

Djok is just a more complete player than Rafa, and his resume is much less lopsided.

EVen the final of the AO in 2012 between the Djoker and Nadal looked like they were playing on clay.

Hard court should go faster. If it's to play a similar style than clay might as well put clay everywhere.

I agree that his resume is lopsided. I believe it only comes into play in the event of a tie. It seems unfair to me that Nadal should be ranked below Djokovic when he has won more times at the 4 most important tournaments in the world. It lays a bad precedent for the future as well. How much leeway are we going to give Djokovic? At 18 slams everyone will be crying GOAT if it's just an accepted fact now with Nadal.

I think Djokovic is already building a pretty strong case to best ever 2 or 3 more slams and I think with the rest of his resume it's already in the conversation and I'd put my money on him eventually surpassing Roger in the minds of most consider most of his were when all three of these guys were rolling and Roger picked off a few before they really got it going albeit from a era I think is generally undervalued for his strength. Hard to deny Djokovic has got these 15 all in the prime, now maybe he picks off a the next few in a lesser era but as long as these dudes are still #2 or top 5 going to finals winning hard to say that.

Djokovic is ahead of nadal because his GC resume is balanced and he's

1/ won 5 YEC
2/ beaten Nadal in every tournament that counts
3/ won all masters series events.
4/ ended 5 times number 1
5/ better head to head with Nadal
6/ held all 4 slams at the same time
7/ had one of the best seasons ever in 2011 (42 consecutive wins) and 2015 (82 victories 6 defeats 3 slams 1 RU WTF)

No. That's just a Djokovic fan's frame of mind. Don't think for one second that people won't remember peak Djokovic losing to Federer in his thirties and it taking him until then to get on the positive side of the h2h. People won't forget that Djokovic has choked away numerous slams to guys Federer would never lose to in a slam final. Djokovic may have some better wins on paper, but he has worse losses as well. 17-18 ain't gonna do it bub.
