Djokovic is going to micro-analyze Medvedev's game to make sure he never loses in a best of 5 again to him

I can really see Djokovic doing this. He's going to micro-analyze everything about Medvedev, the way he plays, his weaknesses, how guys like Thiem and Tsitsipas beat him in straight sets. It will be like the Nishikori 2014 US Open loss all over again, where he's just going to beat Medvedev every time they meet now. Medvedev was honestly foolish to win that match, and win it in straight sets no less. He's opened up a big can of worms.

Who agrees with this?

I agree he will do that. And I would back Novak to exact his revenge on Medvedev if they meet at the AO in January.
But now he's in his mid 30s, it's going to become more and more difficult to exert consistent, total dominance. Medvedev has broken the seal now so will have extra confidence moving forwards.

I don’t. Father Time isn’t on Novak’s side. The two matches you mention with Thiem and Tsitsipas…if Novak’s micro analysis says “play Med when he has a hurt leg or on clay” like those two matches…good luck.

Medvedev is 8 inches taller than Nishikori and has a much bigger better serve. Djokovic will not dominate him the way he has Nishikori.

Shouldn't it have been more difficult already? Seems more like it was getting easier.

The analysis is pretty simple, gotta move better than this to win.

Nishikori was the worse player for the most part even in that semifinal win btw, Djokovic was markedly unclutch or else he could have won perhaps in straights.

this is a joke right? maybe you should send a memo to the ATP to never beat king joker? as if its only upto him who wins and loses?

He's still the best player by a considerable margin, but physical and mental fatigue are real things that no athlete is immune from. And they accumulate as you age. Yes, Djokovic pulled off some incredible feats this season, but he exhausted himself in the process. He said himself he was just relieved it was all over after the USO final.

Will he still be a dominant player next year? You bet. But I'm not sure it is getting easier, other than at Wimbledon. French Open was an absolute mammoth effort; USO was a bridge too far. AO, yes he dominated the final, but the player he dominated just proved how dangerous he can be if Djokovic is not on top of his game.

He'll get back to the lab and run all the numbers. But the solution was never in doubt.

Med served too good, especially his 2nd serve. There's no strategy against that, except great return gameplay. If Novak doesn't regain his BOAT return, he'll hardly win any match vs near perfect serving Med.

No, I don't agree. There's no guarantee that a fully fit and fresh Djokovic wins every 5 set match against Medvedev, there never was even though Djokovic would probably be viewed as favourite most of the time. The truth is, the head-to-head is 5-4 in Djokovic's favour and age isn't on his side.

Djokovic already knows how to beat Medvedev and I'm sure he prepares for every slam match by analysing his opponent and planning his tactics, I don't see him starting with a clean slate just to focus on one guy. There's an entire field of players who want to be the one to beat Djokovic in a match.

I would guess that if he was going to do this he would have done it already, don't you think?

He spoke earlier this year about how he wasn't going to just hand the torch over without a fight, didn't he? This was literally the biggest match of his life, and he straight up said he was going to treat it like it was the last match of his career, right? We know how obsessive alot of these guys today are with stats and data. It's one of the reasons they are staying on top so long. You think this isn't already part of their regular preparation?

I also think that he can microanalyze all he wants, there is very little you can do when time catches up with you. He's not going to meet Medvedev till finals. You're never going to be fresh for those fights.

No one should be agreeing with this. Foolish to win the match???? Medvedev is now a slam winner, why would he give a damn about some old dude who will fade from relevance as a player over the next couple of years! Djokovic can analyse all he wants but what he really needs is a younger body and to find some form before he comes at Medvedev again.

djokovic and nadal has less chances of winning slams if no lines person continues because they can't stall for time for recovery. federer might win one more since he personally likes to play fast.

Djokovic is a huge GOAT contender, seems to be a genuine guy and plays very well. But Medvedev is a bright guy (probably the most intelligent top player), and will improve his strategy for their next matches. We have a great 2022 ahead.

I guess we have a new rivalry. I think if Djokovic doesn't have as many tough long matches on the road to the final he can definitely have his revenge.

If he failed to analyze Med's game before the most important match of his career that's a pretty big failure. And of course he didn't fail to do his homework before the final

Never again? I'd certainly bet on him avenging this particular loss, but it seems inevitable to me that he'll lose to Medvedev again at some point in the future.

He's emotionally and physically drained. Wait for him to announce that he's withdrawing from the Australian open. Quest for CYGS took a lot out of him. His aura of invincibility is gone. And he's got the weight of crowd support to deal with too.

Was there anything particularly different in Medvedev's game this Sunday from their previous encounters or how Daniil played this year, apart from the standout serving? I mean, sure Novak and his team will analyze the match and Medvedev's tactics/strengths/weaknesses, but analyzing the issues that came up in Novak's play would be a bigger priority.

The only difference is Djokovic being much slower in his reactions. He mindfvcked himself by thinking / speaking BS about the most important match ... and it was wasting his attention / focus during the match.

Djokovic now should have some light but formal training in psychology. What he did is a laughable rookie mistake.

So it was not about his legs. It was about his mind who failed due to ignorance on basic but formal psychology.

That's all.
